You have an obsession you have learned not to bring up at parties. Somewhere around the second sentence people's eyes start scanning the room for an exit, and you have gotten very good at cutting yourself off early. Everyone in this bar has that same reflex, and once a month they all agree to switch it off together. Three speakers get twenty minutes each. Science, pop culture, history, or whatever has been quietly eating the presenter's brain since the last one. Think of a TED talk, except it happens over drinks, the speaker is nervous in a way that makes you root for them, and the questions from the audience are genuinely better than anything you would hear at a conference — because the people asking came out on a weeknight specifically to hear about something they did not know existed. Bring the friend who apologizes for talking too much about the thing they love. Watch them stop apologizing.

Scream Diego 2026 — Halloween & Horror Convention
In 10 days · Oct 17 DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Die…

A horror panel tucked inside somebody else's general convention always feels like being let in through a side door. This is the other thing entirely — a whole weekend built by people who wanted to be in a horror room and stopped waiting for permission to have one. You can tell from the guest list. The names here come from the films themselves, not from adjacent franchises with a horror-shaped marketing angle, and that single detail tells you exactly who the weekend is for. The floor runs both days: vendors, artists, and an artist alley carrying original work, prop replicas, and merch that never surfaces at the mainstream shows. The people filling it pre-order the special editions, know the director's full filmography, and hold real opinions about the best practical effect of the last decade. Two days in October, in a Mission Valley hotel with real function rooms, in the one month the whole city is finally in the right season for it. If you take horror seriously, you already know who you are texting about this.

SD Who Con 2026 — San Diego's Doctor Who Convention
In 9 days · Oct 16 Handlery Hotel, 950 Hotel Circle N…

Somewhere in your memory, a blue box is still spinning. You heard the sound once — that impossible grinding wheeze — and something in your chest shifted. You never fully came back from it. SD Who Con returns to San Diego for a weekend built by the people who understand what that sound means. This is not a corporate franchise activation. It is a volunteer-run gathering at the Handlery Hotel, October 16–18, where the hallways fill with cosplayers who sewed their own scarves, collectors who can date a Dalek by its bumps, and first-timers who just discovered that their obsession has a name and a room. Panels, vendors, an Artist and Author Alley, and guest appearances fill the programming. But the real draw is the recognition — sitting in a room where nobody needs the reference explained. Where someone can say 'reverse the polarity' and fifty people laugh without thinking. If you've ever paused a conversation to explain regeneration to someone who didn't ask, your people are already here. The San Diego Doctor Who crowd meets in far smaller rooms the rest of the year, which is where most of these costumes get their test run.

MONSTER PROM at Scream Diego
In 10 days · Oct 17 DoubleTree by Hilton Mission Valle…

You did not get the prom you wanted the first time around. Almost nobody did, which is practically the defining feature of the event. So a horror convention in Mission Valley hands the night back with the lighting corrected: a proper dance, six to ten in the evening, set inside a weekend already full of practical effects artists and monster makeup and people who can talk for an hour about one creature suit. Dressing as the thing that frightened you at nine years old is not a costume in this ballroom, it is a dialect, and everyone present speaks it fluently. The crossover is what makes it work. Horror crowds and dark-alternative crowds rarely share a floor, and when they do the room takes on an unusual generosity, because nobody is the strangest person there and so nobody has to defend anything. Four hours. Comfortable shoes under the gown. The slow song still gets everybody.

TwitchCon North America 2026
Nov 13 – Nov 15, 2026 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Your favorite streamer - the one you have watched for 3,000 hours - is probably in the building, and you can actually walk up and talk to them. That is the whole reason to go. There is a strange intimacy to a parasocial relationship built over thousands of hours of someone's voice in your headphones, and this is the one place it collapses into a real handshake. You know their cat's name. You know which of their friends you would get along with. They do not know you exist, and somehow that does not make the queue feel foolish, because everyone standing in it is carrying the same lopsided friendship and nobody here is embarrassed about it. The expo hall plays like a live streaming studio crossed with a gaming lounge: streamers broadcasting right off the floor, sub-notification sounds coming from everywhere, meet-and-greets with people who have lived in your second monitor for years. Variety Arcades, developer showcases, and cosplay competitions for game characters fill out the rest, and the whole convention is built around live streaming culture - the people who make it and the people who never miss a stream, in the same room for once. Is it worth the trip? If streaming is background noise to you, no - it will read as a trade show for a job you do not have. If a particular channel has been the thing you put on when the apartment is too quiet, then yes, unreservedly. This is the one weekend of the year when a community stops being a chat window and becomes a crowd with faces in it. What first-timers get wrong is planning around panels and missing the hall. The panels get recorded. The accidental conversation in a signing line does not. Wear shoes you can stand in all day, bring a battery, and accept that your schedule will survive roughly until lunch. TwitchCon North America 2026 returns to San Diego, September 25-27. Half the crowd stays in the city afterward, and the unofficial meetups scattered around the convention are where the rest of it actually happens.

Fall Back Festival — Gaslamp Quarter Historical Street Faire 2026
Nov 8, 2026 Davis-Horton House, 410 Island Ave…

It is not a Renaissance fair and it is not a reenactment. It is a city remembering that before the rooftop bars and the convention hotels, this was a frontier town where everything was possible and most of it was inadvisable. The block around the Davis-Horton House fills up with contests, dance troupes, live music, food, and historical activities built on the theory that kids learn best when nobody uses the word learning. A nine-year-old tries panning for gold. A fourteen-year-old pretends not to enjoy the Civil War-era music right up until they do. Somebody in period costume explains how the house survived both a fire and a real estate collapse, which is a very San Diego pair of disasters. Thousands of families make this a fixed point in the year. Free, all ages, in the Gaslamp. Take a kid who thinks history is a textbook. Let them throw a bean bag at a tin can instead.

San Diego Anime Convention 2026
Nov 13 – Nov 15, 2026 DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Die…

The conventions that last are almost never the biggest ones. They're the ones where the artist in the alley remembers your face from last year, where the panel is small enough that you can actually ask your question, where the regulars know each other's names. Four years in, this is quietly becoming one of those — a room that hasn't forgotten why people go to conventions in the first place. The DoubleTree keeps it contained in the way that works: fifty-some vendors, fifty-some artists, a layout that creates natural places to stand around and talk, and a hotel bar that fills with cosplayers once the panels let out. It has the energy of a gathering, not a production — the kind of place where you show up not knowing anyone and leave having found your corner of it. DoubleTree Mission Valley — November 13–15, 2026, three-day badges at sandiegoanimecon.com, free parking, easy from anywhere in the city. Saturday's the peak, Sunday's the long goodbye. Come in costume or don't; both belong here.

The Transformers: The Movie 40th Anniversary Celebration of Life Concert — SDCC 2026
Jul 23, 2026 House of Blues San Diego, 1055 Fif…

Hasbro's tongue-in-cheek Apology Tour arrives at House of Blues San Diego during SDCC week — and if you grew up with the 1986 Transformers movie, you already know what they're apologizing for. Forty years after the animated film that traumatized a generation (yes, THAT scene), this is the live concert celebration that turns grief into guitar solos. Stan Bush performs The Touch — the anthem that has outlived the movie, the toys, and every live-action sequel since. Vince DiCola, who scored the original film, returns with the synth-heavy compositions that defined an era. Britta Phillips, the original singing voice of Jem from Jem and the Holograms, brings an unexpected crossover that 80s kids didn't know they needed. Knights of Unicron and Cold Slither round out a lineup built for people who know that 1986 was the year animation got serious. This is not a nostalgia act. This is the room where people who cried at a cartoon robot's death — and never fully recovered — gather to hear the music that made it hit so hard. The kind of night where a stranger next to you mouths every word to Dare and you realize you've known each other your whole life. Doors open at 7 PM. Show starts at 8 PM. General admission is 50 dollars. VIP is 100 dollars and includes early entry, exclusive merch, private viewing area, and a gift bag of curated items. House of Blues San Diego is at 1055 Fifth Ave — walking distance from the Convention Center. Part of Hasbro's year-long 40th anniversary celebration of The Transformers: The Movie.

Marisela: Eterna Tour 2026 — San Diego Civic Theatre

Some voices carry a whole history in a single note. Marisela's voice carries quinceañeras and kitchen radios and the moment your mom stopped what she was doing to turn up the volume because Sin El was playing and nothing else in the world mattered for three minutes. Marisela brings the Eterna Tour 2026 to the San Diego Civic Theatre on Saturday, November 14 at 8 PM. The Civic Theatre is a 2,967-seat venue in downtown San Diego that pairs the elegance of a performing arts center with the intimacy of a room where a ballad singer can make every seat feel like the front row. Marisela has been the voice of Mexican romantic balladry for over forty years — an artist whose catalog is not just listened to but lived in by the communities who grew up with it. The Civic Theatre is at 1100 Third Avenue, a short walk from the Gaslamp Quarter and the Convention Center trolley stop. Parking at the Civic Center garage. This is the show you bring the person who raised you on this music. They've been waiting for you to suggest it.

San Diego LAN — Gaming Weekend at San Diego Anime Con

The hotel lobby at midnight is where the real convention happens. Someone brought a Switch, someone else brought a projector, and a group of strangers who met four hours ago are playing like they have known each other since middle school. San Diego LAN runs alongside the San Diego Anime Convention at the DoubleTree in Mission Valley, with Saturday and Sunday sessions from 11 AM to 6 PM, mixing strategy and FPS titles with a house party feel that competitive gaming lost somewhere along the way. VR stations, board games, and video games spanning every genre and generation fill the game room at a volume that makes you forget there is an anime convention happening in the next ballroom. This is not a tournament with spectators — it is a living room that happens to hold a hundred people who all brought their own controllers. LFG CON San Diego 2027
Feb 19 – Feb 21, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

The hardest part of this hobby was never the rules. It is finding four other people who are free the same night and will actually see the game through to the end. That is what the Find a Game board solves, and it is the best thing in the building: you write down what you want to play, somebody writes their name under it, and an hour later you are three turns deep with strangers. The open library holds thousands of titles you can check out and carry to a table — first-come, a couple of hours at a time, so the popular boxes circulate all day. Around it run organized play, publisher demos of things not out yet, miniature wargames, and RPG slots going from morning until the hall closes. It takes a full weekend of the San Diego Convention Center, trolley-accessible, with the Gaslamp right there for when the hall shuts and nobody is ready to stop. Send it to the friend with the shelf of boxes still in shrink wrap.

San Diego Comic-Con 2027 — Saturday
Jul 24, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Saturday is when Comic-Con becomes what it is. Hall H fills before dawn — the line outside has been there since the night before. The franchise trailers, the cast reunions, the first looks: they all happen on a Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con. July 24, 2027. The day the industry picks to say what it couldn't say anywhere else, in front of the crowd that will carry it everywhere. Saturday programming runs across all three levels of the Convention Center simultaneously. Hall H anchors with the major franchise panels. Ballroom 20 runs television and streaming. The smaller rooms carry comics, animation, games, and the programming that doesn't make the headlines but is often better. The exhibit hall is at peak capacity on Saturday. Artist Alley is fully operational. The Off-Site activations in the Gaslamp are fully active — the marketing footprint of SDCC Saturday extends six blocks in every direction. The pinnacle of the convention calendar. The day the rest of the year has been building toward.

San Diego Comic-Con 2027 — Sunday
Jul 25, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Sunday is the convention's exhale. Hall H empties out. The floor thins enough that you can finally see it. Badge veterans quietly rate it the second-best day of the week, and a certain kind of attendee plans the whole trip around it. The programming tilts fan-first rather than franchise-first — comics panels, creator Q&As, the closing ceremonies the broader press does not bother covering. Vendors cut deals to move inventory before teardown, and Artist Alley final-day pricing is the best it gets all week. By late afternoon people are already in the Gaslamp over dinner planning next year, which is its own tradition. It ends the same way every time: with everyone insisting it went too fast. San Diego Convention Center, 111 W Harbor Dr. Sunday, July 25, 2027. Thursday and Friday are about what this thing is becoming. Sunday is about what it has always been.

San Diego Comic-Con 2027 — Thursday
Jul 22, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Everyone tells you Saturday is the day. They are wrong, and the veterans have quietly known it for years. Thursday is thinner. Hall H is already firing, the floor is fully open, and the building hums at a register the weekend spectacle never quite reaches. Studios like to drop their surprise announcements here — timed to land at the exact point in the news cycle that buys them buzz for the rest of the week — so the reveals that feel realest happen before most of the city has even arrived. A Thursday badge is not a lesser badge. Every programming room, every screening, every exhibit, Artist Alley signings running start to finish. Outside, the Gaslamp fills with off-site activations from studios that never scored convention space, plenty of them free with a badge scan or open to anyone walking past. Send this to the friend who has lost the badge lottery a decade running. Tell them to stop aiming for the weekend.

Emo Night Karaoke
Feb 5, 2027 Casbah, 2501 Kettner Blvd, San Die…

The difference between singing along and taking the microphone is roughly the difference between watching and being watched, and one of those changes your whole evening. That is the entire format. A live band, a songbook of the records that ruined and rescued you somewhere around fifteen, and a queue of people who have been rehearsing in the car for years without admitting it. Nobody is good. Being good is not the point and would arguably wreck it. The room's job is to carry whoever is up there, and a room full of people who all know the same bridge is extremely good at that job. Doors at eight, going at nine, a Friday in February. February 5, Casbah, 2501 Kettner Blvd. Bring the person you would want holding the other microphone. This scene runs a whole year of these across the county and the karaoke ones are where the strangers stop being strangers fastest.

San Diego Comic-Con 2027 — Friday
Jul 23, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

By mid-morning the building is running at capacity in every direction at once, and you have to choose. That is the real experience of Friday — not the lines, not the swag, but the low-grade grief of knowing that whatever room you pick means three rooms you will never see. Hall H is deep into its schedule. Ballroom 20 holds the overflow that did not make the Hall H line. A Friday badge gets you the exhibit floor, Artist Alley, and every programming room, and the best parts are unscheduled by design: merch drops, studio activations, a face you recognize walking a booth with no announcement. Outside, the offsites hit peak operation — studios build entire pop-ups across the surrounding blocks, badge or no badge — and the Gaslamp runs convention menus and parties that spill into the street. Take the trolley or a rideshare; the lots downtown fill early. Send it to the person you always text photos to from inside. Bring them instead.

You did not buy this badge. Nobody buys this badge. You entered a lottery, refreshed a queue page with your heart going, and either the system chose you or it did not — and that is before the convention has even opened. Four or five hours on one uncrowded floor. The people walking it are professionals, longtime attendees, and lottery winners, and they move deliberately because they already know what is here and where. Lines for the most-wanted exclusives form well before the hall opens, but the rest of it is walkable in a way that becomes physically impossible by Saturday. There's a specific comfort in a standing weekly trivia night: the same booth, the same rivals two tables over, the same guy who somehow knows every state capital and absolutely nothing else useful. Brewery X out on Harbor Island runs theirs with real prizes and real trash talk, and the patio means you're arguing about one-hit-wonders with the bay glittering right there and a fresh pour in your hand. It's the low-key midweek ritual that quietly turns coworkers into actual friends and hands you a reason to leave the house on the least glamorous night of the week. Nobody wanders into a convention's first year. The people who show up are believers — the ones who wanted in before anyone could tell them what it would become — and that is why a first edition feels different from the inside than an established show ever will. San Diego is getting an anime convention that belongs to this city specifically, three hours down the freeway from the one everybody already knows. Two days of panels, cosplay, and a vendor floor set differently, because the exhibitors who booked a first-year show chose it on purpose. That choice travels. The Sixties Show — A Tribute to the Music That Changed Everything at The Rady Shell
Sep 18, 2026 The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, 222…

Every member of The Sixties Show was hand-picked to perform and record with the artists they're celebrating — The Who, Paul McCartney, The Beach Boys, The Bee Gees, Steely Dan, Bruce Springsteen. This isn't karaoke in wigs. This is the session musicians who were in the room when those records were made, playing the songs the way they were meant to sound, on a waterfront stage with the San Diego skyline behind them. The Rady Shell in September is the kind of venue that turns a good concert into a memory. The harbor catches the last of the light. The breeze comes in around the second set. By the time they get to the Beatles medley the crowd has stopped pretending they're too cool to sing along. Friday, September 18, 2026. 7:30 PM. The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, San Diego.

IchibanCon San Diego 2026
Aug 22 – Aug 23, 2026 Sheraton Mission Valley, 1433 Cami…

Some conventions are so big they stop being a gathering and start being an airport. This is the opposite kind on purpose — a con at the scale where you can actually reach the artist alley, where the panels have real conversation instead of a mic line a hundred deep, and where the cosplay competition happens in a room whose audience actually knows the characters you're dressed as. The hotel setting is the whole design. You move through connected ballrooms and corridors instead of a convention center the size of a small town, the density is right, and the signing lines are short enough that the guests exist as people you can actually talk to. The vendor hall still covers everything from imported figures to local fan art — it just does it at a human scale. Doing the small local convention well is harder than it looks, and this one has quietly built a reputation for it. Sheraton Mission Valley, 1433 Camino Del Rio S — August 22–23. San Diego's at its best outside in August, and inside it's the specific warmth of a community that chose to be in one room together. Badge options and the guest list at IchibanCon's site as the date nears.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 — Preview Night
Jul 22, 2026 Preview Night badge San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

There is one evening when the whole thing belongs to almost nobody. The exhibitors are still tightening their displays, the signs are up, and the floor is walkable in a way it will not be again until it is over. Preview Night is that evening, and the people holding the badge know exactly what it is worth. The buying is different — the limited exclusives that will be gone by Saturday morning are sitting right there, and everyone around you knows it too. But the real gift is the pace. You can cross the exhibit hall. You can talk to the people who built the booths. You can take a photo that is not mostly the backs of strangers' heads. It is the most anticipated event in the world caught in its last quiet breath before the weekend swallows it whole. San Diego Convention Center, 111 W Harbor Dr. Preview Night badges go through comic-con.org, and they go early. The harbor is out the window and the doors are about to open. It is the right way to begin.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026
Jul 22 – Jul 26, 2026 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

For one week the city stops belonging to the people who live in it, and most of them would not have it any other way. Hall H seats 6,500, and the panels there break the internet before the room finishes reacting. The exhibit hall rewards people who arrive knowing what they are hunting, because 130,000 others are in the building too. The artist alley is the actual heart of it — original work from creators whose names you know off the spines of things you have read for years. If you are local without a badge, do not write the week off. The Gaslamp Quarter during the convention becomes its own event, and the screenings, activations, and public programming outside the building are free and genuinely substantial. San Diego Convention Center, 111 W Harbor Dr. Badges are lottery-accessed through comic-con.org, with registration opening in the fall for the following year. Hotel blocks follow the same process. If you have a badge, it repays every hour you put into it.

Petco Park Interactive Zone — Free SDCC Offsite Experience 2026
Jul 23, 2026 Lexus Premier Lot, 100 Park Blvd, …

You do not need a badge to feel like Comic-Con found you. The Interactive Zone at Petco Park is the largest free Comic-Con experience in San Diego — a sprawling lot of brand activations, pop-up shops, food vendors, and cosplay photo ops that turns the Lexus Premier Lot into a theme park for anyone who has ever loved a fictional world more than they can explain. This year's lineup includes MaruMart, an immersive walk-through of a Japanese convenience store from Maruchan with SDCC-exclusive merchandise and surprise giveaways. The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck rolls in with macarons, madeleines, and custom quarter-zips. KAYOU's Walls of Fandom celebrates trading card culture with large-format displays. The Labu'Tique Farmers Market brings Labubus, Squishy Toys, Jelly Cats, and Needohs — the kind of plush haul your inner child has been waiting for. Open Thursday July 23 through Sunday July 26, 10am to 5pm daily (4pm on Sunday). Located in the Lexus Premier Lot next to Petco Park, just across the Harbor Drive pedestrian bridge from the convention center. Free entry. No badge required. Bring the kids, bring the cosplay, bring the energy.

Lumpia Con 2026 — San Diego Comic-Con Offsite
Jul 23 – Jul 26, 2026 423 F Street, San Diego, CA 92101

During the four days when 130,000 people descend on downtown San Diego for the world's biggest pop culture convention, there is a small restaurant on F Street that becomes something else entirely. Lumpia Con returns for its fifth year as the Filipino American heartbeat of Comic-Con week. No badge required. Gaslamp Lumpia Factory hosts exclusive pop-ups, artist events, community mixers, and signings — free and open to anyone who knows to show up. The lineup runs Thursday July 23 through the weekend: Sketch and Scratch opens with live art and music; Friday brings a meet-and-greet with artist signings; Saturday closes out the weekend programming. Every night ends at midnight, because the convention floor crowds thin out and this one fills up. What SDCC cannot give you: a room where Filipino American creators are the focus, where the food is part of the culture you are celebrating, where the energy feels earned rather than budgeted. Lumpia Con is that room. 423 F Street, Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego. Free admission. No Comic-Con badge needed.

Hentai Matsuri 2026 — San Diego
Jun 12 – Jun 14, 2026 Varies — see Eventbrite for badge options 950 Hotel Circle North, Mission Va…

Three days of programming the mainstream anime circuit won't run. Hentai Matsuri returns to the Handlery Hotel in San Diego's Mission Valley for panels, cosplay, a vendor hall, and more — June 12–14, 2026. Hentai Matsuri is a deliberately adult-oriented anime and pop culture convention that leans into the parts of anime fandom that other conventions treat as secondary — mature art, doujinshi culture, cosplay without content restrictions, and creator-forward panel programming. The convention has built a loyal following in the Southern California anime community over multiple editions: repeat attendees recognize the crowd, and the crowd recognizes itself. Panels cover creator meetups, figure collecting, the adult animation industry, fan art culture and cosplay-adjacent programming. The vendor hall leans toward independent artists, doujinshi creators and specialty merchandise you won't find at a larger general-audience con. The convention floor operates on a schedule; the hotel lobby runs on a different clock. If you've maxed out Anime Expo and want something smaller, more focused and unfiltered, this is the room. Handlery Hotel, Mission Valley. 18+ with government ID.

Clash of Clans — Clash for the Stache at Seaport San Diego
Sep 5, 2026 $7-15 Seaport Headquarters, 789 W Harbor…

Somewhere inside you lives a Barbarian who has been wronged, and a mustache that has to be recovered. That impulse — the one that makes a grown adult want to storm a puzzle room with three friends and physically reclaim what is theirs — is the thing this was built for. Teams work through high-energy physical challenges to help the Barbarian take his mustache back from the Goblin King. It is not a passive activation you walk past and photograph. You are in the village, you are running the heist, and his honor is genuinely in your hands, which sounds ridiculous right up until the timer starts. It runs daily on the waterfront through the summer with extended hours during convention week, and inside you get themed food, merch, giveaways, and photo moments engineered for the friend who screenshots everything. Whether you have played for a decade or you just want to steal a mustache from a goblin, the room does not care about your credentials. It only cares whether you can solve it.

By the fourth day everyone is running on no sleep and pure generosity, and it makes the crowd better rather than worse — looser, kinder, glad to tell you where they got that. Sunday is when the cosplay hits full intensity, because it is the last chance to wear the thing you spent all year building. The announcements have already happened. What is left is the floor: publishers moving stock they do not want to ship home, creators selling the last of their limited prints, deals that did not exist on Thursday. Late July in that building, harbor visible through the glass, fifty thousand people who flew in from everywhere — nothing else replicates it. San Diego Convention Center, July 26th, badges from $50 for the final day, and they do not linger. If Sunday is your way in, take it, and go find the artist whose work has been your phone background for years.

8th Annual Comic Con Bar Crawl
Jul 22 – Jul 24, 2026 TORO, 672 Fifth Ave, Gaslamp Quart…

Comic-Con doesn't stop when the convention center closes on Preview Night — it just pours into the Gaslamp. The costumes come out, the bars run themed specials, and for one night the streets fill with people in full character and nowhere to be until tomorrow. This is the after-hours version, and it's a spectacle the show floor can't match. The crawl lives right where convention culture and bar culture overlap, so the crowd is the one fluent in both. The builds range from foam armor somebody worked on for six months to a printed badge and a good attitude, and both are equally welcome — the density of cosplay on Fifth and Sixth during SDCC week is unmatched anywhere in the city. You don't need a Preview Night badge to be part of it; you just need a character you can commit to and a willingness to keep moving. Start at TORO, 672 Fifth Ave in the Gaslamp, on July 23 and follow the route through the participating venues. Wristband options and the full stop list at barcrawls.com/san-diego. Interpol — North America Tour 2026 at The Rady Shell San Diego
Aug 15, 2026 The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, 200…

There's a sound that belongs to the moment when the streetlights come on and you're walking somewhere you shouldn't be going but can't stop yourself. Interpol has been making that sound for twenty-five years, and it hasn't lost a single watt of its pull. Interpol plays The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park in San Diego on Friday, August 15 at 7 PM, with julie opening. The Rady Shell is one of the most beautiful outdoor concert venues in Southern California — an open-air bandshell on the downtown waterfront with the harbor behind the stage and the skyline framing the whole production. Seeing a band this atmospheric in a venue this cinematic is the kind of alignment that only happens a few times a year. The Rady Shell's open seating and lawn sections mean the experience scales from front-row intensity to blanket-on-the-grass chill depending on where you plant yourself. The venue is at 200 Marina Park Way, walking distance from the Convention Center trolley stop and the Gaslamp Quarter. The kind of night where the venue and the artist are saying the same thing. Bring someone who understands why that matters.

WeTouchGrass San Diego Anime Rave 2026
Jul 25, 2026 San Diego, CA (venue TBA)

No corporate backing, no major label - just fans building the scene they wanted to exist, and it is one of the most organic community formations happening in SoCal nightlife right now. This is not a watch party or a convention panel. It is a club night built entirely around anime culture: DJ sets spanning J-pop, anime OSTs, city pop edits, and hyperpop, a crowd that shows up in cosplay and stays on the dance floor. The anime rave format has been spreading across multiple cities under the Touch Grass Entertainment banner, and the San Diego edition is part of that expanding circuit - consistent shape every time: a 21+ venue, DJ sets from 9 PM to 2 AM, cosplay-friendly, community-forward. Venue and exact address get announced via the Touch Grass Entertainment social channels closer to the date; check touchgrassent.live for updates and advance ticket links, because capacity is limited and these sell out. If the anime rave circuit filling in across SoCal is your kind of scene, WeTouchGrass San Diego is the door in.

East San Diego Masonic Lodge, 7849 Tommy Dr. South Pacificon Game Fest is the tabletop and board game convention that belongs to San Diego specifically — a community-run event that doesn't try to be PAX West and doesn't need to. June 19th, in a real venue, with the game library and the people who know how to use it. Pacificon is built by gamers for gamers, which means the priorities are right: tables big enough for the game that needs them, organizers who know the titles and can teach them, a schedule of demos and freeplay that covers both the classics and the games that just came out this year. The dealer area runs titles from publishers who are present specifically to talk about them, not just sell them. South Pacificon is smaller than the Bay Area original, which makes it more navigable — you can cover the floor, meet the people who run the events, and get into a game the same day you arrive. pacificonquest.com for the full schedule and registration. June in San Diego means heading inside from pleasant weather, which is the right reason to spend a day at a table playing games with people who showed up for the same reason.

Some bands grow on you like a song you didn't notice the first three times it played but now you can't stop humming. Mt. Joy is that band — the one your friend put on during a road trip and now you can't imagine the drive without them. Mt. Joy celebrates ten years with a show at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park in San Diego on Tuesday, August 18 at 7 PM. The Rady Shell's waterfront setting adds an outdoor dimension that suits Mt. Joy's warm, layered indie folk-rock perfectly — the kind of music that sounds like it was written specifically for an evening where the harbor breeze carries the melody an extra block in every direction. Ten years for a band that built its following through word of mouth and festival slots rather than radio play means the audience knows every deep cut. Expect the kind of crowd that sings along to album tracks, not just singles. The Rady Shell is at 200 Marina Park Way in downtown San Diego, accessible by trolley and with nearby parking at the Convention Center. A decade of songs and the perfect room to hear them in. If someone put you on to this band, now's the time to return the favor.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 — Saturday
Jul 25, 2026 From $65 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Saturday is the day the whole thing stops pretending to be a convention and becomes whatever it actually is. The floor hits full density. The cosplay reaches an intensity that pulls photographers in from other cities. Hall H holds the panels people slept on concrete for, and the exhibit hall is the fullest it will get all week, every booth running, every exclusive either in somebody's hands or already gone, every aisle moving at the speed of a hundred and thirty thousand people who all made plans. The Saturday afternoon cosplay density is its own documented phenomenon, and by evening the Gaslamp reaches a pitch the rest of the year never approaches. Saturday badges are the hardest to get for exactly this reason. If you have one you already know the assignment: reach the halls you care about early, then leave a hole in the day big enough for the thing you could not have planned. That is the part you will still be telling people about. Comic-Con finds you on Saturday. Let it.

The people in those seats on Thursday morning have been planning this exact day since last year's badges sold out, and the studios know it — which is why the reveals land the way they do, into a room that is fully awake and fully invested. Thursday is the underrated day. The weekend crush has not arrived, Friday's floor pace is still a day off, and the panels that run now set the tone for everything after. Exhibit hall lines exist, but they are lines you can actually stand in. If you are going a single day and want both hall access and real time on the floor, this is the answer: all of the access, a fraction of the Saturday density. The week starts in earnest the moment that first panel ends and the floor opens. San Diego Convention Center, July 24th, badges from $65. San Diego Comic-Con 2026 — Friday
Jul 24, 2026 From $65 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

By Friday the nerves are gone. Thursday's opening-day disbelief has burned off, everyone knows which escalator is a trap, and the convention finally becomes the thing it actually is. Hall H has fired its first reveals, so the room now has proof it was worth the line. The exhibit hall is running at capacity. Cosplay density peaks — this is the day the costumes that took a year to build come out, because the people who built them also know what Friday is. Studios schedule their biggest panels for it on purpose, which is why single-day Friday badges are the first to disappear every year. If you are chasing one specific Hall H moment, this is the day you commit to the line. If you are here for the floor, the artist alley, and the way the Gaslamp keeps going long after the halls close, all of it runs at once and none of it lets up until the lights go down. Send it to the friend who has been entering the badge lottery since the year you met.

KAYOU makes its San Diego Comic-Con debut in 2026 with the Walls of Fandom, a free immersive walkthrough experience at the Interactive Zone at Petco Park. The convention center goes dark at six, but the people inside it don't power down — they just need somewhere to put the charge. That's the whole reason a tribute act spent years building replica chromed helmets, a full-scale pyramid stage, and electro-luminescent suits that glow like the inside of a game grid. They believe the best hours of Comic-Con week aren't on the floor at all — they're after, when the badge comes off and the costume stays on and a room full of strangers turns out to be exactly your people. Little Italy's Music Box becomes a Tron sequence for one night: futuristic beats, glowing everything, an "Alive 2007"-style spectacle that treats Daft Punk like scripture. Thrilljoy Block Party: Rock the Block — SDCC 2026
Jul 25, 2026 InterContinental San Diego, 901 Ba…

The collectibles community has its own SDCC — and this is it. Thrilljoy's Rock the Block takes over the InterContinental San Diego on Saturday night of Comic-Con week with exclusive PIX Packs, carnival games, giveaways, and the kind of energy that only happens when people who obsess over the same things end up in the same room. When tickets launched, bots crashed the site. Thrilljoy had to manually cancel suspicious purchases and restore spots for real collectors. That is not a marketing story — that is the community telling you how badly they wanted in. The demand is the signal. Every attendee gets two drink tickets, food, and an exclusive Block Party PIX Pack with event-only items you cannot get anywhere else. This is the party where your shelf gets something nobody else's shelf has. The games and giveaways run all night. The venue is steps from the Convention Center — close enough to still feel the SDCC energy, far enough to breathe. Ages 5 and up. Doors at 6 PM, runs until 11 PM. Tickets are 165 dollars and limited to 2 per person — this is intentionally small. The InterContinental San Diego is at 901 Bayfront Ct, right on the waterfront. If you collect, this is your Saturday night.

Kevin Smith Live at American Comedy Co — SDCC 2026
Jul 23 – Jul 25, 2026 818 Sixth Avenue, San Diego, CA 92…

The best Comic-Con happens when you leave the convention center. Kevin Smith has run on that principle for over a decade, and his SDCC residency is the proof -- a filmmaker who genuinely cannot stop talking, in a room full of people who genuinely want to listen. From July 23 through 25, 2026, Smith brings four of his signature live formats to the 200-seat American Comedy Co in the Gaslamp Quarter. Thursday opens with Fatman Beyond, Smith's weekly deep-dive into superhero movies and comic book culture, co-hosted with Marc Bernardin. This is the format that predicted the DCU reboot two years before it was announced. The crowd is not passive -- they shout corrections, demand hot takes, and occasionally know more than the hosts. Friday doubles up: Jay and Silent Bob Are In The Hizzhouse brings Jason Mewes for the duo's famously unpredictable chemistry, followed by Comics On With Jay and Silent Bob, a show-and-tell of the week's actual comic books. Saturday finishes with Diary of a Man Child and Hollywood Babble On, Smith's signature irreverent Hollywood storytelling format. The venue seats 200. Comic-Con draws 130,000. The math is the appeal -- this is the show your friends cannot get into. Smith has been doing these SDCC residencies for over a decade, and the regulars treat it like a reunion. The comedy is not polished stand-up; it's a filmmaker who cannot stop talking, in a room full of people who want to listen. Every show is different because Smith does not have a set -- he has stories that have not been told yet. Tickets are 53 dollars per show, 21 and over, with a two-drink minimum. American Comedy Co is at 818 Sixth Avenue in the Gaslamp, walking distance from the Convention Center. Shows sell out -- the 2025 run was gone within hours of announcement.

San Diego Symphony — Summer Pops at The Rady Shell 2026
Jun 5 – Sep 19, 2026 The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, 222…

The San Diego Symphony's Summer Pops season at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park brings world-class orchestral music to the San Diego waterfront for a series of outdoor concerts running June through September 2026. The Rady Shell — an acoustically engineered open-air performance venue on the waterfront at Jacobs Park — provides a stunning setting for the Symphony's summer season with San Diego Bay visible beyond the audience. The Summer Pops programming spans the full range from classical masterworks to pops concerts featuring Broadway music, film scores, jazz, and popular artists performing with orchestral accompaniment. The variety makes the summer season accessible to audiences who aren't regular classical concertgoers while delivering the full orchestral experience that the Symphony's musician quality supports. The Rady Shell's outdoor format is distinctly family-friendly — picnic blankets, lawn chairs, and the relaxed atmosphere of the waterfront park contrast with the formality of indoor concert halls. The adjacent Jacobs Park lawn allows families to spread out while the children remain within range of the music. Food and wine are available from vendors on-site. The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park is located at 222 Park Blvd in downtown San Diego, walkable from the Embarcadero and accessible via MTS Trolley (Convention Center station). Parking in the downtown convention center structures. Individual concert tickets and season subscriptions available through the San Diego Symphony website.

SneakerCon San Diego 2026
May 30 – May 31, 2026 TBA San Diego Convention Center, San D…

You know how it feels to watch a drop sell out in seven seconds. Saturday, it's on a table and the price is negotiable. SneakerCon San Diego 2026 hits the San Diego Convention Center on May 30 — the world's largest sneaker event, and the floor reflects it: tens of thousands of individual pairs from hundreds of sellers, spanning vintage Air Jordans, deadstock SBs, same-week drops, and rare colorways that only move at events like this. The authentication desk runs all day. If you're buying something significant, you get it checked before you walk out. This is not a retail store. Prices are negotiated on the floor. Condition grades matter and sellers will walk you through theirs if you ask. The San Diego sneaker community turns out for this — expect to run into people you recognize and people you'll know by the end of the day. There's a difference between knowing someone online and meeting them across a table with a pair between you. SneakerCon is where that happens. Getting there: San Diego Convention Center, 111 W Harbor Drive, downtown San Diego. MTS Trolley — Convention Center station (Blue/Orange lines) is a one-minute walk. Gaslamp Quarter parking structures on 5th and 6th Ave. Tickets required for entry — general admission and VIP at sneakercon.com. May 30, 2026. The pair exists. You just have to get there first.
