Steve Lacy: Oh yeah? Tour — Gallagher Square at Petco Park, San Diego
Nov 19, 2026 Gallagher Square at Petco Park, 10…

Dark Red comes on in the car and nobody says anything. Not because they do not like it — because they all feel it at the same time. That guitar tone does something to your chest before the lyrics even land. Steve Lacy writes songs for that exact version of you — the one who is thinking about it but not saying anything about it. Lacy built his reputation as the youngest member of The Internet, Syd's Grammy-nominated collective from the Odd Future orbit, before Bad Habit turned him into a generational voice in 2022. His guitar work is deceptively simple. His falsetto cracks in places that feel intentional. The production is warm and analog and sounds like it was recorded in a room where someone recently burned incense. He makes R&B for people who also listen to Radiohead and are not embarrassed about either. The Oh yeah? Tour brings him to Gallagher Square at Petco Park in San Diego on Thursday, November 19. This is the outdoor stage adjacent to the ballpark — open air, downtown skyline, and a crowd that already knows every word to Helmet before the set list drops. If you have a person who needs to hear this live, you already know who they are. Tickets available through Ticketmaster. Show at 8:00 PM. Gallagher Square at Petco Park, 100 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101. All ages.

Holiday Wonderland returns to Petco Park for select dates from December 4 through 23, opening daily at 4 PM. The event is closed December 8 and 9. Available through Ticketmaster. This is the holiday event that turns a place you already love into something your kids will remember as the night it snowed in San Diego.

Jul 23, 2026 Lexus Premier Lot, 100 Park Blvd, …

You do not need a badge to feel like Comic-Con found you. The Interactive Zone at Petco Park is the largest free Comic-Con experience in San Diego — a sprawling lot of brand activations, pop-up shops, food vendors, and cosplay photo ops that turns the Lexus Premier Lot into a theme park for anyone who has ever loved a fictional world more than they can explain. This year's lineup includes MaruMart, an immersive walk-through of a Japanese convenience store from Maruchan with SDCC-exclusive merchandise and surprise giveaways. The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck rolls in with macarons, madeleines, and custom quarter-zips. KAYOU's Walls of Fandom celebrates trading card culture with large-format displays. Padres Scout Day 2026 — San Diego vs Houston Astros at Petco Park
Aug 9, 2026 Petco Park, 100 Park Blvd, San Die…

Somewhere up in the seats, a kid in a khaki vest covered in patches is about to watch a slider break at what looks like a right angle, and every physics lesson a scout leader ever gave is about to become permanently real. Scout Day turns the ballpark into a troop event without ever stopping being a ballgame. Scouts march in the pre-game parade. Merit badge activities run the concourse. Group seating puts whole packs together, and theme-game ticket holders get commemorative items. Meanwhile the Padres and the Astros, two of the most analytically obsessive front offices in the sport, give the data-minded adults plenty to argue about between innings. Petco Park sits at the edge of the Gaslamp with the downtown skyline standing behind the outfield wall. Theme tickets run through Padres.com while supplies last. Take the kid who has only ever seen a game on a screen. Sit close enough that they hear the ball.

San Diego Padres vs New York Mets at Petco Park
Jun 5, 2026 100 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101

The New York Mets visit Petco Park on June 5 in a series between two franchises that have both arrived at different points in their respective rebuild cycles — the Mets with one of the largest payrolls in the sport, the Padres with a core built for sustained contention. A Mets series at Petco draws the New York contingent that lives and vacations in Southern California, and the right-field line becomes a conversation between transplant Mets fans and the Padres faithful who have been hearing about New York baseball since they were children. Petco Park on a June Friday is one of the most pleasant sports evenings San Diego offers: the commute done, the workweek concluded, the ballpark lit against a deep June sky, and three hours of National League East vs West baseball ahead of you. Against the Mets, the Padres know what they are facing. The result matters. Show up early enough to watch batting practice.

Padres Postseason Watch Party — NLDS Game 1 at Gallagher Square
Oct 3, 2026 Gallagher Square at Petco Park, 10…

Road playoff games have a geography problem. Your team plays the most important night of its year and you are four states from the noise, taking it in off a screen in a quiet room, alone with every pitch. So they open the lawn. Five dollars puts you on the grass behind the outfield wall with a few thousand people feeling the exact same thing at the exact same moment, which turns out to be most of what anybody wanted. The board at the Sycuan Stage runs seventy-five feet across. The playground stays open for the kids who do not care yet, and anyone under three feet tall gets in free. The five dollars is barely a price anyway — the net proceeds go to the Padres Foundation. Gallagher Square at Petco Park, 100 Park Boulevard. Gates open an hour before the 5:30 first pitch. The whole city does this together or it does not do it at all.

Empire of the Sun: Ask That God: Afterlife with Polo & Pan and Midnight Generation
Oct 7, 2026 Gallagher Square at Petco Park, 10…

There's a version of you that dances under open sky with glitter on your collarbones, surrounded by strangers who already feel like your people. You've been carrying that version around for months, maybe years, waiting for the right room. This is it. Empire of the Sun brings their full theatrics to San Diego — Luke Steele's golden headdress, that neon-soaked synth-pop spectacle that feels less like a concert and more like a ceremony for anyone who ever loved the '80s without living through them. Polo & Pan opens the evening with their Parisian house warmth, the kind that makes you sway before you even realize your feet moved. Midnight Generation primes the crowd before the sun drops behind the stadium. Gallagher Square is the outdoor venue at Petco Park — no baseball tonight, just a concrete field that turns into a dance floor when the lasers hit. The October air hits different out here. People who came alone end up in groups by the second song. All ages. Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Doors at 6:30 PM. Gallagher Square at Petco Park, 100 Park Blvd, San Diego 92101.

Padres Postseason Watch Party — NLDS Game 2 at Gallagher Square
Oct 4, 2026 Gallagher Square at Petco Park, 10…

A one o'clock Sunday game is the sort your dad used to leave on in the background while something cooked. This one will not be background anywhere in this county. The lawn opens again, same five dollars, and a Sunday crowd is a different animal from a Saturday one — more strollers, more sunscreen, more people who decided around eleven that they could not sit at home and wait for a score alert. Nobody actually sits. The videoboard past the outfield wall is large enough that you forget you are not at the real thing, right up until a strike call goes the wrong way and three thousand people groan at a screen in unison. The team store stays open and a few concession stands run, so nobody has to leave the lawn and miss half an inning. Gallagher Square at Petco Park, 100 Park Boulevard. Gates at noon, an hour before first pitch. Whatever this series turns into, this crowd reassembles for it.

Padres Hello Kitty Night
Aug 26, 2026 Petco Park, 100 Park Blvd, San Die…

Watching a grown adult in full business-casual clothes clutch a Sanrio jersey like it's the Stanley Cup is its own specific kind of joy. On Hello Kitty day the ballpark goes soft and pink and slightly unhinged, and the crowd fills with people who came for the bow, not the box score, Sanrio kids now grown up, moms and daughters in matching everything, a whole aesthetic that has nothing to do with baseball colliding warmly with a sleepy Wednesday day game. The Padres have run this a few times now, and the jersey resells for a small fortune, which is exactly why the true believers are in line well before first pitch. It's the rare afternoon at the park where the single cutest thing in the entire building is not the mascot. Bring the person whose whole personality is one small white cat. It happens at Petco Park on a Wednesday afternoon, Pirates in town.

My Chemical Romance: Black Parade 20th
Aug 30, 2026 From $65 100 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101

For a certain generation this record was the soundtrack to becoming a person - the theatrical, operatic sound that shaped an entire decade, tracks like 'Welcome to the Black Parade,' 'Famous Last Words,' and 'I Don't Love You' that stayed anthems long after the kids who memorized them grew up. Now the band returns to perform The Black Parade in full, marking the album's 20th anniversary, at an open-air stadium built for exactly this kind of night. This is the definitive version of a full-album anniversary show, one of the most important rock records of the 2000s played start to finish. Petco Park holds over 40,000 for stadium shows, with clear sightlines from the field and lower bowl; doors open at 5:00 PM. The stadium is easily reached from the 5 Freeway, the Gaslamp Trolley Station is a short walk away, and parking in the East Village and Gaslamp Quarter is widely available. My Chemical Romance: Black Parade 20th, at Petco Park in San Diego.

Padres Beerfest — Pregame Craft Beer Party at Gallagher Square (vs. Houston Astros)
Aug 7, 2026 Petco Park, Gallagher Square, 100 …

The ballpark gates swing open three hours early, and for a moment the game isn't the point. Padres Beerfest transforms Gallagher Square into a block party where San Diego's craft beer obsession and its baseball heart beat at the same tempo. Dozens of local and national breweries pour their best alongside food trucks, live bands, and the low hum of a crowd that showed up early because the pregame IS the event. Friar Funds get you five-dollar pours. The sun drops behind the Western Metal Supply building. Someone hands you a hazy IPA you've never tried and you find your new favorite before the national anthem plays. The beauty of Beerfest is that it exists in the gap between arriving and first pitch — a pocket of time the Padres carved out specifically for people who think the best part of a game is the hour before it starts. Beer tasting begins at 4:00 PM. First pitch vs. Houston Astros at 6:40 PM. Beerfest admission included with your game ticket. Gallagher Square, Petco Park. 21+ for tastings.

North Park Farmers Market 2026 — Every Thursday
Every Thursday · Next Oct 8 Free 3001 North Park Way, San Diego, CA…

You go for tomatoes. You come home with tamales, a bottle of hot sauce you did not know existed, and a loaf of bread that will not survive the drive. This happens every week and you have stopped pretending to be surprised by it. Thursday afternoon into the evening, one block off the middle of North Park, certified farms from around the county setting up beside bakers, cheese people, and whoever is handling pastries this season. The spread is what a farmers market is supposed to be rather than what most of them settle for being. EBT works here, and Market Match doubles it — spend ten dollars in benefits, get ten dollars in market money back. That single detail tells you exactly who this market believes it belongs to, which is everybody. The point was never novelty. The point is that it is there, in the same spot, every single week. Go often enough and the vendors start setting your usual aside before you ask.

San Diego Summer Movies in the Park 2026

Grass under a blanket, somebody's dog wandering the row, and a kid down front narrating the plot to nobody in particular. Half the neighborhood is out here and not one of them paid anything to be. Somebody decided that every part of this city deserved at least one summer evening of a movie outdoors under an actual sky, and then went and did it, park by park, year after year. The format is the whole idea: find the screening closest to you, bring something to sit on, arrive before dark. No seats to reserve, no venue with opinions about your shoes. Just a park turning into a theater for a few hours because people wanted somewhere good to be. The lineup runs wide enough that something is always worth the trip — a recent release, an old one, something the kids have not seen. Rotating locations from July into October, free. Find the one nearest you and tell your neighbors. That is genuinely all it takes.

Autumn Festival at San Diego Zoo Safari Park 2026
Every Saturday · Next Oct 10 San Diego Zoo Safari Park, 15500 S…

Kids raised in Southern California grow up without a real fall — no turning leaves, no frost on the window, none of the seasonal furniture the rest of the country takes for granted. So the Safari Park builds one for them, out in the open valley where the giraffes graze. Every weekend in October the grounds turn into a harvest: a walk-through maze, country dancing led by scarecrow hosts, live bluegrass drifting over the savanna, fall-themed food, and the strange delight of watching rhinos and cheetahs go about their day while a fiddle plays. It is autumn assembled on purpose for children who have never seen the genuine article, and it lands anyway — because the wonder was never really about the weather. Saturdays and Sundays through October, included with park admission. Come for the animals you expected and stay for the season you did not know your kids were missing. Some falls you have to build by hand. This is the one San Diego builds every year.

North Park Thursday Market — Weekly Farmers Market, San Diego
Every Thursday · Next Oct 8 North Park Thursday Market, 3000 N…

Every Thursday from 3 to 7:30 PM, the stretch of North Park Way between Granada Avenue and Ray Street turns into the kind of market that makes you wonder why you ever bought tomatoes from a grocery store. The North Park Thursday Market is a year-round farmers market with fresh produce, prepared foods, flowers, baked goods, apparel, and the particular energy of a neighborhood that actually uses its sidewalks. The vendors are local, the produce is seasonal, and the crowd is a cross-section of North Park — young families, restaurant workers on their day off, dog walkers doubling back for a second pass, and regulars who have been coming since the market started and still discover something new. The market sits in the heart of one of San Diego's most walkable neighborhoods, surrounded by craft cocktail bars, coffee roasters, and independent shops that all benefit from the Thursday foot traffic. No tickets, no reservation needed. Just show up on Thursday afternoon and walk slowly. The prepared food stalls alone are worth the trip.

Hokus Pokus Live is a full-production stage show that blends illusion, comedy, and spectacle into something that works on adults the way Cirque du Soleil works on adults — you know it is not real, but your body does not care. All ages, which means the energy in the room is half screaming kids and half adults trying to act like they are not screaming too. Monday, October 12, 2026. The Observatory North Park. Somebody looked at a wedge of asphalt where three streets collide and decided people needed it more than cars did. That decision is the reason you can stand in the middle of a Los Angeles intersection on a Saturday morning eating a peach. The market that moves in is small, genuinely small by the standards of this city, and that is exactly why it works. The vendors know the regulars. The regulars know whose citrus is peaking this week and will tell you unprompted. Everybody is standing within fifty feet of somebody they recognize, which is not a thing that happens often here. The produce is certified, the prepared-food stalls rotate, and the neighborhood arguing about every decision affecting a twelve-block radius is the most reliable feature on the calendar. The smell reaches you before the stages do - barbecue and catfish and soul food covering a mile-plus of Crenshaw Boulevard, because every major Black-owned restaurant in South LA has a booth out here and the food is the center of the whole thing. For one Saturday in October, this stretch between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Leimert Park Village becomes one of the largest street festivals in Los Angeles. More than 300,000 people move through in a single day. The format is street vendors, restaurant booths, live music stages, a car show, health screenings, and community organization presence - but it is the food and the crowd that make it. Founded by the Los Angeles Sentinel, the oldest Black-owned newspaper in California, it has run for over two decades and stayed a genuine community institution: multigenerational, neighborhood-rooted, and enormous. This is Leimert Park and Crenshaw at their fullest. Free to attend. Crenshaw closes to traffic for the day. The Metro K Line stops at Leimert Park Village and is the easiest way in and out. Arrive early if you want to move - by noon the crowds are deep.

Pasadena Fall Festival 2026 — Victory Park
Oct 24, 2026 Victory Park, 2575 Paloma St, Pasa…

The costume gets worn once. You spent three weeks on it, or forty dollars and a lot of regret on it, and then Halloween lands on a weeknight and the whole thing is over in ninety minutes of doorbells. This is the pressure valve for that — an afternoon in a park where the costume gets a second outing and an actual audience. Carnival games, a costume contest, free food, three hours on a Saturday in late October when the light in Pasadena goes gold early and every kid in the neighbourhood is already in character. It is small on purpose and it is free, which means the crowd is the people who live within a mile of Victory Park rather than anyone who bought a ticket. Worth knowing if you are bringing someone small: three to six in the afternoon means the whole thing happens in daylight and finishes before dinner, which is a very different proposition from a night event with a tired four-year-old. It is also the version of Halloween that works for the adults who wanted the season without the horror. Saturday, October 24, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Free, all ages. Victory Park, 2575 Paloma Street.

Knott's Merry Farm 2026 — Buena Park
Nov 20, 2026 8039 Beach Blvd, Buena Park, CA 90…

There's a moment every November when the air shifts in Orange County — not just the temperature, but the whole energy of the place. Buena Park transforms under a canopy of millions of twinkling lights, and if you've ever walked through Knott's Berry Farm during the holidays, you already know what that does to you. It's the kind of evening where you forget your phone for whole minutes at a time. Knott's Merry Farm runs from November 20 through January 3, turning the park into a full holiday village. The rides stay open — yes, including the big ones — but the real draw is what happens between them. Live shows thread through the night with carolers and dancers, the tree lighting ceremony anchors the whole experience, and the food leans hard into comfort: boysenberry hot chocolate, funnel cake with seasonal twists, holiday turkey legs the size of your forearm. What makes this different from a generic lights display is the weight of the place. Knott's has been doing this for decades. The craft village isn't decoration — it's artisans who set up shop every winter. The Christmas Crafts Village dates back to the original Berry Farm days, and the handmade ornaments and blown glass you find there aren't available the rest of the year. Knott's Merry Farm is open daily during Thanksgiving week and on select days through the season — generally Friday through Monday, with extended dates as Christmas approaches. The park is at 8039 Beach Blvd, Buena Park. Daily admission starts around $60. Bring layers — Southern California evenings in December are colder than anyone from out of state expects.

University Heights Fall Festival 2026 — San Diego
In 9 days · Oct 17 4404 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92116

Behind an elementary school sits a field that spends most of the year being nothing but a field, and then for one Saturday every October it becomes the reason people move to a neighborhood in the first place. Live music, food trucks, craft beer, a pumpkin patch you actually pick from and carry home. But the word doing the work here is neighborhood. The person running the tamale truck has a kid at the school. The face painter lives three blocks over. The hayride circles ground you have walked past a hundred times without ever once imagining what it could turn into. Every dollar goes to the 530 students at Alice Birney, a Title I school where at least 40% of the kids come from low-income families, which means the beer in your hand is quietly doing something on the way down. Entry is free. The lawn games are the kind adults pretend they are playing for the children. Take the bus, and take a neighbor you have somehow never actually talked to.

Enchant Christmas LA 2026 — Santa Anita Park, Arcadia
Every day · Next Nov 20 Santa Anita Park, 285 W Huntington…

The person you are buying for does not need another gift card. They need to walk through a maze made of a million Christmas lights and forget, for ninety minutes, that December is supposed to be stressful. Enchant Christmas arrives at Santa Anita Park for its Los Angeles debut, and what they built is unreasonable — the world's largest Christmas light maze threading through the historic racetrack grounds, an ice skating trail that loops through the installations instead of sitting in a parking lot, and a holiday village where the vendors actually made the things they are selling. Entry begins at 5:30 PM when the sun is just low enough for the lights to win. The maze is not a walk-through tunnel. It is a puzzle — paths that branch, dead ends that reward you with a view you would have missed on the straight route, and enough square footage that the crowd never feels like a crowd. Children run ahead. Couples slow down. The person who said they did not want to come is the last one to leave. Santa Anita's architecture does most of the heavy lifting. The Art Deco grandstand lit from below looks like it was designed for this, and the infield becomes an alpine village that smells like kettle corn and pine. The ice skating trail winds through themed zones instead of going in circles, and there is a snow slide for the family whose youngest member has never seen snow. November 20 through December 28, 2026, nightly. Tickets at enchantchristmas.com. The lights are the excuse. The feeling is the product.

Midnight is overrated. At Belmont Park, the countdown happens at noon — because the best New Year's party is the one the kids can actually stay awake for. The MEGA Noon Year Celebration runs December 31, 2026 from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM at The Plunge at Belmont Park in Mission Beach. Heated pool, floating obstacle course, DJ, balloon drops, and an apple cider toast at the stroke of noon. It sells out every year because there are exactly zero other New Year's events designed for families with children who melt down after 8 PM. The Plunge at Belmont Park, 3146 Mission Blvd, San Diego, CA 92109. Tickets $25-$50 at belmontpark.com. The adults get to celebrate. The kids get to celebrate. Nobody gets a babysitter. Everybody wins.

2026 Kokoro Craft Show — Japanese American National Museum, Little Tokyo
In 2 days · Oct 10 Japanese American National Museum,…

The bowl your family eats out of on New Year's is chipped, and you have been meaning to replace it for four years, and every store version looks like it was made by a machine that has never eaten out of a bowl. Once a year the museum fills with makers working in a specific tradition — ceramics, textiles, woodwork, paper — where the craft carries something you cannot get from a catalogue. Kokoro means heart, and the show is named that on purpose: these are objects made by people who learned from people. Free admission, one day, ten to four. What separates it from a general craft fair is the continuity. A number of the artists here are working in forms their grandparents worked in, sometimes with their grandparents' tools, and they will tell you which is which if you ask. You will also find people who came to the tradition sideways — a potter who is not Japanese American at all but apprenticed for nine years and can explain exactly why the glaze pools the way it does. Saturday, October 10, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free. Japanese American National Museum, 100 N Central Ave, Little Tokyo.

Medium Build — The King of Having Fun Tour at Observatory North Park
Nov 2, 2026 The Observatory North Park, 2891 U…

You know that feeling when the whole room is moving and nobody rehearsed it — when the bass line picks up and two hundred strangers decide at exactly the same moment that tonight is the night they stop being careful. Medium Build makes music for that moment. Nick Carpenter built this project in a garage in Boise and turned it into something that fills rooms coast to coast with people who never heard the word 'indie-folk' and don't care. The live show is a sweaty, theatrical, grinning mess — brass instruments nobody expected, singalongs nobody planned, and a drummer who looks like he's having more fun than anyone in the building. The Scratch opens. Monday nights at the Observatory have a different energy than the weekend — smaller crowd, louder per capita, everyone there on purpose. If you've never heard either act, that's the point. This is the kind of Monday night that makes Tuesday morning feel like a badge of honor. Somewhere in your phone there's a playlist you made at sixteen that you haven't touched since, and every Pxndx song on it still hits exactly the way it did the first time. Jose Madero was the frontman of that band — the Mexican emo act that soundtracked a generation of afternoons spent pretending to do homework — and his solo work carries the same bruised honesty but with cleaner hands. He writes like someone dictating a letter they'll never send. In San Diego, where the border is not a metaphor but a twenty-minute drive, his audience is the kids who grew up on both sides — code-switching between Spotify playlists the way they code-switch between languages. The Observatory in North Park will be loud in two languages and nobody will need subtitles. Tickets start around fifty dollars on Ticketmaster. Minor-league hockey is one of the great underrated nights out in America, and San Diego keeps it a secret it shouldn't: fast, violent, gorgeous, and cheap, played close enough that you can hear the boards rattle and the skates carve the ice. Opening night at Pechanga is the best of it — a building full of a fanbase that has waited all summer, the lights down, the anthem, and then the drop of the puck and ninety minutes of end-to-end chaos punctuated by the occasional gloves-off dust-up that brings the whole arena to its feet. The Gulls open the 2026-27 season against the Henderson Silver Knights, and there is no better way to fall for hockey than a live AHL game where the future NHL stars are still hungry. Saturday, October 10, 2026, 6pm, Pechanga Arena San Diego. Bring the kids, bring a first-timer who thinks they don't like hockey, and watch them convert somewhere around the first breakaway.

If you know The Living Tombstone from the internet — and statistically, you do, because Yoav Landau's tracks have been streamed a billion times across YouTube and Spotify without most people knowing his name — then you already know the sound. Electronic, rock, and chiptune fused into something that lives in the space between video game soundtracks and proper dance music, made by someone who built a career writing songs about Five Nights at Freddy's and then kept leveling up until the music outgrew the meme. The SOMA show brings Landau's project to a venue that fits the vibe — standing room, all ages, the kind of crowd that discovered this music through gaming communities and fan-made animations and now gets to hear it through speakers that weigh more than they do. The live show translates the production in a way the bedroom headphone experience can't — bass you feel, drops timed to lighting rigs, the communal energy of a room full of people who found the same strange corner of the internet. Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 8:00 PM. SOMA, 3350 Sports Arena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92110. All ages. General admission.

Somebody in your family knows the words to a song you only know the tune of. You have been meaning to ask. You keep not asking, and the number of people who could answer keeps getting smaller. For its twenty-eighth year, Pasadena hands over Los Robles Avenue and the lawn in front of City Hall for an afternoon. The parade steps off at four with local schools, community groups, neighbours and elected officials, and it is unmistakably a hometown parade rather than a produced spectacle — the marching band is from the high school down the street, and half the crowd is waving at somebody they know in it. The festival opens at five in front of City Hall, which is the part worth staying for. Pasadena's City Hall is a domed Mediterranean building with an open courtyard, and when the sun goes and the music starts it becomes one of the more beautiful places in the county to stand with a plate of food you did not have to queue long for. Saturday, October 10, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Parade begins at Los Robles Avenue and Buckeye Street; festival at Pasadena City Hall, 100 N Garfield Ave. Free, all ages.

Death From Above 1979 - Private Lives Tour

Two guys, a bass, and a drum kit, producing more sonic violence than most bands manage with six people — that has always been the miracle and the joke of this band at the same time. It is dance music for people who want to break something. Punk swagger welded to a groove you cannot physically stand still through, and played live it stops being a genre and becomes an event happening to your body. Expect a pit. Expect the low end parked in your chest for the whole set. Expect to sound like a different person in the morning. The Observatory in North Park is built for exactly this: a room made for sweaty, ears-ringing communion, all ages, doors at 7 and music at 8. This is the show you go to when you need to shake something loose. Afterward you stand outside with strangers who feel exactly as alive as you do, and nobody wants to be the first to leave.

NYC Wine & Food Festival 2026 — New York, NY
In 6 days · Oct 14 – Oct 17 20 Hudson Yards, New York, NY 10001

Picture the chefs you have been watching on television standing two feet away, actively cooking, actually talking to you - and now picture hundreds of them in tents along the Hudson River, in October, in the most food-serious city in the country. Four days of the best culinary talent in America, James Beard Award winners among them. The festival spans dozens of individual events across the city, from Grand Tastings at Hudson Yards to intimate chef dinners and late-night after-parties. The Grand Tastings are the anchor: enormous walkthrough experiences where you sample dishes from hundreds of chefs alongside wines, spirits, and cocktails curated from producers across the world. The programming is organized around themes - ocean-to-table, global flavors, pastry and dessert, fire and smoke - so there is a clear entry point depending on what kind of food person you are. This one is for people whose food obsession is an identity, not a hobby: industry professionals, serious food media, and deeply passionate civilian food lovers occupying the same space. If you follow food the way others follow sports - tracking restaurants, reading cookbooks, knowing what won the James Beard this year - this is built for your specific kind of enthusiasm. General admission tickets are available; VIP tiers offer more intimate experiences. Tickets sell out, particularly for the Saturday and Sunday Grand Tastings, so buy early - the best sessions are gone before October. Individual event pricing varies; budget for both the events and the inevitable great meal you will want afterward. The festival benefits two nonprofits, God's Love We Deliver and No Kid Hungry, so the spend carries an added dimension. Wear comfortable shoes: Grand Tastings are standing events and you will walk miles across the tasting floor. This is where the American food conversation happens in person, once a year - the restaurants, the chefs, the trends - and where that knowledge becomes communal. New York in October, food as identity, the entire industry in one place. The NYC Wine & Food Festival takes place in New York, NY.

Included with regular admission, it runs on select nights from November 27, 2026 through January 3, 2027. Come for a holiday outing that trades mall crowds for open sky and giraffes on the horizon, and make an afternoon of it before the lights come alive at dusk. Bring the family, bring warm layers, and let the kids run under the lights. It is the perfect antidote to a season that can feel like a to-do list, out where Southern California still feels wild.

You remember the first time the Great Hall ceiling opened up and the candles floated. Not the plot. Not the dialogue. The ceiling. Some images lodge somewhere logic cannot reach and simply stay there for decades, quiet, until something cracks them open again. Twelve hundred drones rise off the fairgrounds and draw that ceiling across the real sky. Not a screen. Not a projection. The actual night, rewritten in light, while a live violinist threads the original score underneath formations that shift from the Sorting Hat to the Whomping Willow to a Patronus wider than the field you are standing on. The band on your wrist pulses in time with all of it, so you are not really watching the show. You are inside it. Two nights only, in October, outdoors. Parents who read the books aloud fifteen years ago will stand beside those kids, now grown, and neither one will say a word for a full minute.

For one weekend a year, a city that never slows down finally exhales. The lamps come up gold along El Prado, the museums throw their doors open for nothing, and hundreds of thousands of people wander the same paths at the same unhurried pace with cocoa in hand and nowhere in particular to be. This is the largest free holiday festival in California, and it does something no ticketed spectacle can manage: it turns a sprawling metropolis back into a village for two nights. Choirs spill out of the organ pavilion. The International Cottages serve food from thirty nations. Kids press their faces to the museum glass after dark, when the halls feel like somewhere they were let into by accident. You do not come to see one particular thing. You come to be reminded that the whole park, and the whole city with it, belongs to everyone at once — and that you were always counted in that. Bring whoever needs reminding.

October air at the waterfront is the thing people mean when they say San Diego has great weather - warm enough to be comfortable, cool enough to walk without sweating, the bay throwing back the city lights by the time you've been there an hour. The San Diego Night Market's Fall Edition comes back with that cooler air and the vendor rows and the street food and the setting that makes it worth scheduling your month around. The fall market runs differently than the summer version; autumn evenings at Waterfront Park have a specific quality the July nights don't. The night works on foot traffic and conversation: you don't need a plan to have a good time here, just a direction to walk and a sense of what you feel like eating. Bring cash if you have it - not every vendor takes cards. Arrive before 7 to find a spot at the waterfront tables. Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Hwy, San Diego. October 17th. Free entry. Walk one block inland afterward and the rest of downtown is still open, which is how a two-hour plan quietly becomes the whole evening.

Downtown does not usually feel like this on a Thursday. The vendor mix rotates, which is the whole charm — regulars with a following next to somebody selling a thing they made at their kitchen table and decided, this week, to finally show people. Food trucks, artisan goods, handmade work, small business pop-ups, live music, and a downtown actually using its own streets instead of saving them for cars. Some neighborhoods have to build their own gathering place because the map never bothered to hand them one. Mira Mesa and the Convoy corridor did exactly that, and this is the autumn version of it. Same team as the night market, so the food-truck rows and vendor booths are what most people come for, and then it wraps all of that in everything a fall evening should have: a movie in the park, a trunk-or-treat, pumpkin decorating, live performances, and the particular warmth of an immigrant community that turns out in force for its own. It runs into the evening and it is free. You will watch three generations of one family split a single plate and stay until the movie ends, because nobody wants to be the one who suggests leaving. You hear it before you see it — the low burble of five hundred old engines idling down a main street that's been closed just for them. For one weekend, downtown Murrieta hands Washington Avenue over to the cars, and the exhaust note carries a full block, which is exactly how the whole town knows it's on. Friday is Cruise Night: engines lit, windows down, the avenue glowing as the cars roll through while the downtown businesses stay open late for it — free to just stand on the curb and watch. Saturday is Show and Shine, the cars parked and judged, owners leaning on fenders talking shop, spectators drifting hood to hood. Pre-war hot rods, muscle cars restored down to the bolt, lowriders, builds that took somebody a decade. Thirty-plus years in, it pulls fifteen thousand people and stays the biggest car event in southwest Riverside County — not a mall-lot meet, an open-street block party on old Highway 395. Washington Avenue closes for it; park in the downtown lots or the side streets off Old Town Front, and get there before 9am Saturday for the prime spots. Free both days, no registration to come watch. If you follow SoCal car culture, it's already on your fall calendar.

Steve Jones is standing ten feet away from you playing the riff that started everything. The Sex Pistols — original members Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock — return with Frank Carter on vocals for a North American tour that stops at SOMA on October 16. Carter, the ferocious frontman of Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and ex-Gallows, brings the dangerous energy that this music was built on. This is the band that detonated the blueprint for every punk show that followed, playing a room small enough that you can see the sweat. The alarm goes off at 6 AM on Thanksgiving and your entire family groans. Three hours later everyone is wearing a turkey hat, your cousin PR'd without telling anyone she was trying, and you've already earned the pie. Father Joe's Villages Turkey Trot sends thousands of runners through Balboa Park every Thanksgiving morning. It starts at 7:15 AM — early enough that you're home before the oven timer goes off — and what comes after the finish line is almost better than the run: a post-race festival with awards, a costume contest where the turkey suits get genuinely competitive, live music, and a beer garden that opens at 9 AM because it's a holiday and nobody is judging. Every registration helps Father Joe's Villages serve over a million meals to San Diegans experiencing homelessness. The run is a party. The reason for the run is not. Thursday, November 27, 2026. 7:15 AM. Balboa Park, 1549 El Prado, San Diego 92101. Shiner, Fotocrime, Nonexistent Night
In 7 days · Oct 15 Casbah, 2501 Kettner Blvd, San Die…

Too heavy for the radio and too melodic for the hardcore kids was a real commercial dead end, and the bands stuck in it spent the nineties being adored by about eleven thousand people who all still bring it up unprompted at parties. The headliner came out of Kansas City and made that particular trade-off sound deliberate: enormous low end, patient song structures, vocals that stay calm while everything underneath them gets heavier. Then look at who is opening. Fotocrime plays cold, drum-machine-driven post-punk that on paper shares nothing with the band above it, and in sequence makes complete sense — the same appetite for weight and repetition, routed through a different decade and a much colder set of tools. That is the actual reason to go. Bills this well-sequenced are rare, and the odds are good you arrive for one act and order the other one's record from the parking lot afterward. Doors seven-thirty, first act eight-thirty, a Thursday. October 15, Casbah, 2501 Kettner Blvd. Bring whoever you argue about record production with. The line between heavy nineties rock and the darkwave rooms across town is far thinner here than either crowd will admit.

Everybody tells you animation is for children right up until the year you work out that most of the films that genuinely wrecked you were drawn. This is the festival built for whoever that happened to. Its ninth edition puts Oscar contenders on the same four-day program as a twenty-six-year-old cult picture nobody's studio wanted, which is the entire argument it exists to make. On the awards side: Louis Clichy's Iron Boy, Leah Nelson's Tangles, The Violinist, and the first theatrical showing anywhere of the opening two episodes of Dana Terrace's Knights of Guinevere. But the reason to clear a Friday is further down the grid — the North American premiere of Shingo Natsume's Ghost: End of Night, and a retrospective print of Yoshiaki Kawajiri's Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, the 2000 film that underperformed and then quietly became the thing a whole generation pointed at to end the argument about whether animation was a medium or a genre. Opening day starts with Best of Annecy at four in the afternoon, which means the festival's first act is a room full of people watching shorts that will never get a US release. October 16 to 19, at TCL 6 on Hollywood Blvd. Passes and single tickets through the festival.

The market runs year-round from 8am to 12:30pm — a genuine neighborhood ritual that draws locals in week after week. You'll find seasonal produce picked days, not weeks, before sale: heirloom tomatoes, stone fruit, fresh herbs, and greens from farms across the Temecula Valley and surrounding Inland Empire. Beyond produce, the market features artisan goods — fresh-baked sourdough, wildflower honey, handmade jams, cut flowers, and handcrafted goods from regional makers. Old Town Temecula sets the scene: cobblestone streets, frontier-era storefronts, and the Temecula City Hall clock tower a few blocks away. The market is a natural gateway into Old Town's wine tasting rooms, vintage shops, and breakfast cafes that stay busy on Saturday mornings. Free to attend. Street parking available on 6th Street, Old Town Front Street, and in the adjacent Old Town Garage. Stroller and pet-friendly.

PB Night Market — Pacific Beach Thursday Night Market

The sun dropped behind the Pacific ten minutes ago and the salt air is still warm. Fire pits are already lit at the corner of Bayard and Garnet, and somewhere between the dumpling stand and the taco truck a guitarist is playing something that makes you walk slower than you meant to. PB Night Market is Pacific Beach's Thursday night ritual — a curated weekly market running 5 to 9:30 PM with nine to twelve rotating food vendors, live music, lawn games, and the kind of firepit seating that turns strangers into conversationalists. Curator Jay Michaels launched it in February 2026 and intentionally chose Thursday to fill the gap between the Tuesday PB Farmers Market and the Wednesday OB Farmers Market. The result is the night Pacific Beach exhales into the weekend a day early. Vendors rotate weekly, which means regulars come back to discover what changed. The crowd is beach-local plus the occasional rideshare from North Park. The vibe is backyard party energy with better food and no cleanup. One hundred fifty steps from the ocean — close enough to hear it if the music pauses. Every Thursday, 5 to 9:30 PM. Corner of Bayard and Garnet in Pacific Beach.

Hardcore normally lives in basements and half-empty VFW halls, guarded by people who prefer it that way, which is precisely what makes this band so improbable. Turnstile dragged the genre into daylight without sanding a single edge off it, folding in dub and soul and pure sunshine until a pit full of airborne bodies somehow reads as joy instead of violence. Watching a band from the scene get genuinely, enormously big is a complicated feeling for the faithful, and then the first song starts and it resolves into one simple thing: everybody, veterans and newcomers alike, losing it together. Boy Harsher and hardcore lifers Terror fill out a bill that covers the whole spectrum of heavy. The Observatory grounds in Santa Ana, all ages, doors in the late afternoon. Go get gloriously knocked around, in the only crowd on earth that will pick you up every single time you go down.

Somewhere a teenager made a song in their bedroom that sounds like the inside of a phone at 3am — blown-out, autotuned, too fast, too much feeling crammed into two minutes — and it turned out a whole generation felt exactly that way. glaive is the sharp end of hyperpop, the sound of kids who grew up online and decided to make their heartbreak as loud and glitchy as the world that raised them. Live, it is chaos in the best sense: a young crowd that knows every word screaming into the strobes, catharsis with a broken pixel around the edges. Tiffany Day and Kurtains open. If you are old enough to find it disorienting, that is kind of the point; if you are young enough to feel seen by it, you already have your ticket. Sunday, October 18, 2026, doors 6:30pm, show 7:30pm, Observatory North Park, all ages. Come hear what the future sounds like when it is having a feeling.

Strangelove - The Depeche Mode Experience

Tribute acts get dismissed until you stand in a room where four hundred people are singing a synth line together, and then the argument gets much harder to make. Depeche Mode occupies an unusual place in Southern California specifically — it is the band that a generation of Latino kids in the Inland Empire and East LA claimed as their own, so completely that the devotion here has no real parallel anywhere else in the country. That crowd is who fills these nights. The band doing the playing takes the material seriously enough to get the gear right rather than just the haircuts. Expect black clothing, expect people who came with the same friends they went to the original shows with. Music at 9:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. This particular devotion is a whole regional subculture, and the shows are where it becomes visible to itself.
