Every scene has a band that makes you feel like the ceiling is too low and the night is too short. Prince Daddy & The Hyena are what happens when emo kids grow up and get louder instead of quieter — the songs are big and messy and searingly honest in the way that only works when the singer sounds like they might cry or laugh and can't tell the difference. Kory Gregory's voice cracks in all the right places. If you spent any part of the last five years in basements and DIY spaces watching bands play to forty people who all knew every word, you already know what this is. The Voodoo Room is tight, the stage is low, and the barrier between the band and the pit is mostly theoretical. If you have ever screamed along to a song about being a disaster and felt, briefly, like that was the most honest thing you'd done all week — this is the show.

You loved two rooms and somebody was always telling you to pick one. Maybe it was the sanctuary you miss — the singing, the hands up, four hundred people meaning it at the same time. Maybe it was the warehouse. Either way you learned to keep half of yourself folded, because the people in each room had opinions about the other one.
Rave Jesus is made by someone who refused to fold. It is worship music built on hard dance structure, and the crowd splits visibly down the middle: kids who grew up in youth group standing beside people who came for the BPM and stayed because nobody in the room was performing irony. The tour that came before this one was called I Met God on the Dancefloor, which tells you exactly how seriously and how unseriously it holds itself at once.
A club this size makes the split impossible to hide. You get to watch two crowds work out that they are one crowd.
Thursday, November 12. Doors 7 p.m. House of Blues San Diego, 1055 Fifth Avenue. Someone is going to send a photo of this to a friend who will not believe it exists.

3001 North Park Way, San Diego, CA…
You go for tomatoes. You come home with tamales, a bottle of hot sauce you did not know existed, and a loaf of bread that will not survive the drive. This happens every week and you have stopped pretending to be surprised by it.
Thursday afternoon into the evening, one block off the middle of North Park, certified farms from around the county setting up beside bakers, cheese people, and whoever is handling pastries this season. The spread is what a farmers market is supposed to be rather than what most of them settle for being.
EBT works here, and Market Match doubles it — spend ten dollars in benefits, get ten dollars in market money back. That single detail tells you exactly who this market believes it belongs to, which is everybody.
The point was never novelty. The point is that it is there, in the same spot, every single week.
Go often enough and the vendors start setting your usual aside before you ask.

Bayard St & Garnet Ave, Pacific Be…
The sun dropped behind the Pacific ten minutes ago and the salt air is still warm. Fire pits are already lit at the corner of Bayard and Garnet, and somewhere between the dumpling stand and the taco truck a guitarist is playing something that makes you walk slower than you meant to.
PB Night Market is Pacific Beach's Thursday night ritual — a curated weekly market running 5 to 9:30 PM with nine to twelve rotating food vendors, live music, lawn games, and the kind of firepit seating that turns strangers into conversationalists. Curator Jay Michaels launched it in February 2026 and intentionally chose Thursday to fill the gap between the Tuesday PB Farmers Market and the Wednesday OB Farmers Market. The result is the night Pacific Beach exhales into the weekend a day early.
Vendors rotate weekly, which means regulars come back to discover what changed. The crowd is beach-local plus the occasional rideshare from North Park. The vibe is backyard party energy with better food and no cleanup. One hundred fifty steps from the ocean — close enough to hear it if the music pauses.
Every Thursday, 5 to 9:30 PM. Corner of Bayard and Garnet in Pacific Beach.

Snapdragon Stadium, 2101 Stadium W…
The bass hits your chest before you find the stage. Two strangers next to you are screaming the same drop at each other, and for a weekend that is the only language anybody here speaks.
What separates this from a festival that merely landed in your city: two San Diego kids built it. ISOxo and Knock2 came up through the same warehouse parties and late-night sets that shaped the sound, and they curate it like people who still have something to prove to their hometown. The lineup leans underground — names that fill group chats and never billboards. Last year sold out, so it grew from two days into a full three-day weekend.
Snapdragon Stadium, ages 18 and up. It runs cashless with no re-entry, so once you are inside you are inside. GA and VIP through Front Gate Tickets.
Send it to whoever you were standing next to the first time a drop actually got you.

Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Hwy,…
Grass under a blanket, somebody's dog wandering the row, and a kid down front narrating the plot to nobody in particular. Half the neighborhood is out here and not one of them paid anything to be.
Somebody decided that every part of this city deserved at least one summer evening of a movie outdoors under an actual sky, and then went and did it, park by park, year after year. The format is the whole idea: find the screening closest to you, bring something to sit on, arrive before dark. No seats to reserve, no venue with opinions about your shoes. Just a park turning into a theater for a few hours because people wanted somewhere good to be.
The lineup runs wide enough that something is always worth the trip — a recent release, an old one, something the kids have not seen. Rotating locations from July into October, free.
Find the one nearest you and tell your neighbors. That is genuinely all it takes.

San Diego Zoo, 2920 Zoo Drive, San…
Every October, after the sun sets over Balboa Park and the last tour group files out, the San Diego Zoo transforms into something your kids will talk about until next Halloween. HalGLOWeen turns the zoo's pathways into a glowing trail of costumes, dance parties, live entertainment, and the particular kind of magic that only happens when a five-year-old in a dinosaur costume stands two feet from an actual tortoise and doesn't know which one is more impressive.
The event runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout October, keeping the zoo open until 9 PM. Costumed characters roam the grounds. Themed food specials, musical performances, and interactive stations are scattered through the exhibits. Kids 11 and under get in free during October when accompanied by an adult with valid admission -- which means the entry price is basically one adult ticket for the whole family.
HalGLOWeen is included with regular zoo admission or membership -- no separate ticket required. The zoo is at 2920 Zoo Drive in Balboa Park.

Girard Ave & Prospect St, La Jolla…
You turn a corner with a glass in your hand, find something you were not expecting, and then get to ask the person who made it what they were thinking. That is the trick a gallery can never pull. It makes discovering art feel like a party you were already at, which is a completely different proposition from being quiet in a white room. More than 170 juried artists set up across painting, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, glass, woodworking, photography, and mixed media, and the jurying is why it holds up as one of the more seriously curated outdoor art events in the state. The wine and craft beer are what turn viewing into a neighborhood gathering. October in the village is the right weather for it too, cool mornings, warm afternoons, and the low light that makes outdoor work look its best. Several blocks close to traffic, so walk in from the edges. Take the friend who always says they do not know anything about art.

San Diego Zoo Safari Park, 15500 S…
Kids raised in Southern California grow up without a real fall — no turning leaves, no frost on the window, none of the seasonal furniture the rest of the country takes for granted. So the Safari Park builds one for them, out in the open valley where the giraffes graze. Every weekend in October the grounds turn into a harvest: a walk-through maze, country dancing led by scarecrow hosts, live bluegrass drifting over the savanna, fall-themed food, and the strange delight of watching rhinos and cheetahs go about their day while a fiddle plays. It is autumn assembled on purpose for children who have never seen the genuine article, and it lands anyway — because the wonder was never really about the weather. Saturdays and Sundays through October, included with park admission. Come for the animals you expected and stay for the season you did not know your kids were missing. Some falls you have to build by hand. This is the one San Diego builds every year.

Voltaire Street, Ocean Beach, San …
Voltaire Street shuts down to cars and opens up to something better — a four-block pedestrian stretch in Ocean Beach where the dogs outnumber the humans and nobody minds.
Day of the Dog is the kind of event that could only exist in a neighborhood where the sidewalk regulars already know each other's dogs by name. From Cable to Bacon, the street fills with French bulldog races (serious to the owners, hilarious to everyone else), Corgi sprints, wiener dog dashes, a Dogue Fashion Show that should be absurd but somehow isn't, and a Best In Show showcase where the treat prizes matter more than anyone will admit. There's a 100-foot art installation down the middle of the block, a foam party zone where the dogs lose their minds, and dog blessings for the ones who need a little extra grace.
The humans get food trucks, local vendors, and the particular pleasure of watching a neighborhood that already loves its dogs spend an afternoon proving it. No pretense that this is anything other than what it is: a community that built a festival around the thing it was already doing every morning on every corner.
October 11, noon–4 PM. Voltaire Street, Ocean Beach. Free.

SeaWorld's Halloween Spooktacular is the daytime counterpart to the after-dark Howl-O-Scream, built for families with kids who love costumes but are not ready for the kind of jump scares that make adults question their life choices. Running every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from September 11 through November 2, the Spooktacular fills the park with trick-or-treat trails, costumed characters, and the California debut of the all-new Baby Shark Halloween Show -- which, if you have a child under six, is the kind of sentence that makes you immediately check your calendar.
Included with regular park admission, no separate ticket required. The seasonal trick-or-treat trail winds through the park with stops at themed stations. Kids ages 3-9 receive a free one-day admission ticket with a paid adult ticket at $99.99. A Waterfront Pumpkin Patch overlooking Mission Bay rounds out the afternoon with a view that makes the holiday feel like it belongs here.
SeaWorld is at 500 SeaWorld Drive, off Interstate 8 at the SeaWorld Drive exit.

North Park Thursday Market, 3000 N…
Every Thursday from 3 to 7:30 PM, the stretch of North Park Way between Granada Avenue and Ray Street turns into the kind of market that makes you wonder why you ever bought tomatoes from a grocery store. The North Park Thursday Market is a year-round farmers market with fresh produce, prepared foods, flowers, baked goods, apparel, and the particular energy of a neighborhood that actually uses its sidewalks. The vendors are local, the produce is seasonal, and the crowd is a cross-section of North Park — young families, restaurant workers on their day off, dog walkers doubling back for a second pass, and regulars who have been coming since the market started and still discover something new. The market sits in the heart of one of San Diego's most walkable neighborhoods, surrounded by craft cocktail bars, coffee roasters, and independent shops that all benefit from the Thursday foot traffic. No tickets, no reservation needed. Just show up on Thursday afternoon and walk slowly. The prepared food stalls alone are worth the trip.

Salt still in your hair, no particular hurry, mid-afternoon — that is the window this market was built inside. Tuesdays are when the tourist traffic thins and the neighborhood quietly takes the day back for itself, and Bayard Street becomes the weekly anchor nobody bothers to advertise. The hours are the design: it opens as the day loosens rather than at dawn. Produce from inland farms, fresh fish, local honey, prepared food from people who cook a few blocks away, and the specialty things you stop buying at a grocery store once you have found a better source. What shows up shifts with the season, which is what keeps pulling you back. The real point was never any single vendor. It is the rhythm it puts in a week — the day you run into somebody from the neighborhood and stay far longer than you meant to. Bring the friend who keeps saying they should eat better.

Minor-league hockey is one of the great underrated nights out in America, and San Diego keeps it a secret it shouldn't: fast, violent, gorgeous, and cheap, played close enough that you can hear the boards rattle and the skates carve the ice. Opening night at Pechanga is the best of it — a building full of a fanbase that has waited all summer, the lights down, the anthem, and then the drop of the puck and ninety minutes of end-to-end chaos punctuated by the occasional gloves-off dust-up that brings the whole arena to its feet. The Gulls open the 2026-27 season against the Henderson Silver Knights, and there is no better way to fall for hockey than a live AHL game where the future NHL stars are still hungry. Saturday, October 10, 2026, 6pm, Pechanga Arena San Diego. Bring the kids, bring a first-timer who thinks they don't like hockey, and watch them convert somewhere around the first breakaway.

The decision you did not know you had to make is waiting in the prepared-food stretch at the far end, and by then you are already carrying flowers, a wedge of something, and stone fruit you have no plan for. Sunday morning here is a series of small commitments.
More than a hundred and seventy-five vendors means it is really several markets at once: produce near the entrance, flowers in the middle, the cheese and jam people toward the back, and the coffee stand at the east entrance whose regulars have stood in the same spot since the thing opened. Rain or shine, holidays included, for over three decades. That consistency is the design — it shows up every week because the neighborhood does.

If you know The Living Tombstone from the internet — and statistically, you do, because Yoav Landau's tracks have been streamed a billion times across YouTube and Spotify without most people knowing his name — then you already know the sound. Electronic, rock, and chiptune fused into something that lives in the space between video game soundtracks and proper dance music, made by someone who built a career writing songs about Five Nights at Freddy's and then kept leveling up until the music outgrew the meme.
The SOMA show brings Landau's project to a venue that fits the vibe — standing room, all ages, the kind of crowd that discovered this music through gaming communities and fan-made animations and now gets to hear it through speakers that weigh more than they do. The live show translates the production in a way the bedroom headphone experience can't — bass you feel, drops timed to lighting rigs, the communal energy of a room full of people who found the same strange corner of the internet.

Two guys, a bass, and a drum kit, producing more sonic violence than most bands manage with six people — that has always been the miracle and the joke of this band at the same time.
It is dance music for people who want to break something. Punk swagger welded to a groove you cannot physically stand still through, and played live it stops being a genre and becomes an event happening to your body. Expect a pit. Expect the low end parked in your chest for the whole set. Expect to sound like a different person in the morning.
The Observatory in North Park is built for exactly this: a room made for sweaty, ears-ringing communion, all ages, doors at 7 and music at 8.
This is the show you go to when you need to shake something loose. Afterward you stand outside with strangers who feel exactly as alive as you do, and nobody wants to be the first to leave.

Handmade pasta, cannoli, imported cheeses, and a chalk-art mural taking shape on the pavement under someone's knees - this is one weekend a year when India Street stops being a dining district and becomes a whole Italian-American neighborhood turned inside out. San Diego's largest annual street festival draws over 100,000 people across the weekend.
The Little Italy Association organizes it, filling India Street and the surrounding blocks with cooking demonstrations, bocce ball tournaments, live Italian folk music, traditional dance, and an extraordinary spread of food. The Gesso Italiano brings local artists creating chalk-art murals on the streets; the cooking competition and wine garden are the peak-hour draws, and neighborhood restaurants run festival specials throughout. Little Italy is one of the city's most walkable districts - bounded by the waterfront, lined with bistros and gelato shops.
Free to attend. Parking is limited - the Little Italy trolley stop on the Green Line is the easy way in. Mid-October along India Street and Fir Street, San Diego.

Behind an elementary school sits a field that spends most of the year being nothing but a field, and then for one Saturday every October it becomes the reason people move to a neighborhood in the first place. Live music, food trucks, craft beer, a pumpkin patch you actually pick from and carry home. But the word doing the work here is neighborhood. The person running the tamale truck has a kid at the school. The face painter lives three blocks over. The hayride circles ground you have walked past a hundred times without ever once imagining what it could turn into. Every dollar goes to the 530 students at Alice Birney, a Title I school where at least 40% of the kids come from low-income families, which means the beer in your hand is quietly doing something on the way down. Entry is free. The lawn games are the kind adults pretend they are playing for the children. Take the bus, and take a neighbor you have somehow never actually talked to.

Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Hwy,…
October air at the waterfront is the thing people mean when they say San Diego has great weather - warm enough to be comfortable, cool enough to walk without sweating, the bay throwing back the city lights by the time you've been there an hour.
The San Diego Night Market's Fall Edition comes back with that cooler air and the vendor rows and the street food and the setting that makes it worth scheduling your month around. The fall market runs differently than the summer version; autumn evenings at Waterfront Park have a specific quality the July nights don't. The night works on foot traffic and conversation: you don't need a plan to have a good time here, just a direction to walk and a sense of what you feel like eating.
Bring cash if you have it - not every vendor takes cards. Arrive before 7 to find a spot at the waterfront tables. Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Hwy, San Diego. October 17th. Free entry.
Walk one block inland afterward and the rest of downtown is still open, which is how a two-hour plan quietly becomes the whole evening.

Some neighborhoods have to build their own gathering place because the map never bothered to hand them one. Mira Mesa and the Convoy corridor did exactly that, and this is the autumn version of it.
Same team as the night market, so the food-truck rows and vendor booths are what most people come for, and then it wraps all of that in everything a fall evening should have: a movie in the park, a trunk-or-treat, pumpkin decorating, live performances, and the particular warmth of an immigrant community that turns out in force for its own. It runs into the evening and it is free. You will watch three generations of one family split a single plate and stay until the movie ends, because nobody wants to be the one who suggests leaving.

This is not nostalgia. This is the band that detonated the blueprint for every punk show that followed, playing a room small enough that you can see the sweat. SOMA's concrete floor and low ceiling were built for exactly this volume. The people in this room are not here because they read about punk in a textbook. They are here because the first time they heard 'Anarchy in the U.K.' something clicked and never unclicked.

Too heavy for the radio and too melodic for the hardcore kids was a real commercial dead end, and the bands stuck in it spent the nineties being adored by about eleven thousand people who all still bring it up unprompted at parties.
The headliner came out of Kansas City and made that particular trade-off sound deliberate: enormous low end, patient song structures, vocals that stay calm while everything underneath them gets heavier. Then look at who is opening. Fotocrime plays cold, drum-machine-driven post-punk that on paper shares nothing with the band above it, and in sequence makes complete sense — the same appetite for weight and repetition, routed through a different decade and a much colder set of tools.
That is the actual reason to go. Bills this well-sequenced are rare, and the odds are good you arrive for one act and order the other one's record from the parking lot afterward.
Doors seven-thirty, first act eight-thirty, a Thursday.
October 15, Casbah, 2501 Kettner Blvd. Bring whoever you argue about record production with. The line between heavy nineties rock and the darkwave rooms across town is far thinner here than either crowd will admit.

Somewhere a teenager made a song in their bedroom that sounds like the inside of a phone at 3am — blown-out, autotuned, too fast, too much feeling crammed into two minutes — and it turned out a whole generation felt exactly that way. glaive is the sharp end of hyperpop, the sound of kids who grew up online and decided to make their heartbreak as loud and glitchy as the world that raised them. Live, it is chaos in the best sense: a young crowd that knows every word screaming into the strobes, catharsis with a broken pixel around the edges. Tiffany Day and Kurtains open. If you are old enough to find it disorienting, that is kind of the point; if you are young enough to feel seen by it, you already have your ticket. Every step is the same distance. Nobody measures yours against anyone else's. The finish line is wherever you stop.
Walk MS San Diego is the National MS Society's annual fundraising walk — a morning where thousands gather to walk together in support of people living with multiple sclerosis. The route winds through one of San Diego's parks, and the crowd is made up of people who know someone, people who are someone, and people who showed up because walking together is a thing that matters even when you can't explain exactly why.
Participants who raise $100 or more receive a Walk MS T-shirt on site, but the real draw is the community that forms around the walk: teams with matching shirts, families pushing strollers, groups who've done this every year since diagnosis. The fundraising fuels research, advocacy, and support programs, but the walk itself is the thing — the simple act of showing up and moving forward.
Registration and details at nationalmssociety.org. San Diego, CA. Fall 2026.

Gaslamp Quarter, 628 Fifth Ave, Sa…
Every friend group has that one Halloween where they finally all committed. Matching costumes. Real makeup, not the plastic mask from the drugstore. The kind of night where someone's fake blood gets on a stranger's jacket and the stranger just salutes and keeps walking. The Zombie Crawl is the reason that night happens.
One wristband opens 25 bars across the Gaslamp Quarter. Welcome shots at each stop. DJs. Drink specials. The entire downtown transforms into a costumed parade of the undead that spills between venues until last call. The kickoff is at American Junkie on Fifth Ave - arrive before seven or the face-paint line wraps around the block and you lose the first hour to latex and eyeliner. The crawl runs four nights across two weekends: October 23, 24, 30, and 31.
Kickoff location: American Junkie, 628 Fifth Ave, San Diego, CA 92101. Passes start at $40.
The Gaslamp does this to itself every October and half the bars across town run their own versions on the same nights, so the costume gets more than one outing out of you.

Low ceilings. Sticky floors. The band close enough to sweat on you. If you know what that room feels like, you've already stopped reading and started checking the date.
High Vis brings their post-punk to The Casbah on Monday, October 19. The London five-piece has spent the last few years turning hardcore kids into post-punk converts and post-punk fans into people who understand why hardcore matters. Their sound lives in the space between Bauhaus and Gorilla Biscuits — dark, melodic, and played with the intensity of a band that came up in DIY basements and never forgot what that floor felt like.
The Casbah at 2501 Kettner Blvd is the kind of venue High Vis was built for. Capacity under 200. No barrier between the stage and the crowd. The sound bounces off concrete walls and hits you in the chest before your ears process it. Doors at 7 PM, music at 8 PM. Tickets are $25.
A Monday night. A band most people haven't heard of yet. A room that will be full of people who already know every word. That's the deal.

A hundred and fifty steps from the ocean, a corner of Pacific Beach turns into a block party that nobody had to organize you into.
Fire pits going. Nine to twelve food vendors rotating week to week, so the thing you loved last time might be gone and the thing replacing it might be better. Live music that is genuinely local — acoustic sets, small bands, the occasional DJ. Games. A crowd of PB locals and students and people who simply wandered up from the beach still holding a towel.
Past vendors have run birria tacos, banh mi, craft lemonade, Hawaiian shave ice, artisan pastries, small-batch hot sauces. A few craft sellers usually set up alongside.
This is a neighborhood gathering, not a ticketed event. Free. No RSVP. You walk up.

Someone in a full monster costume is debating a ramen menu with someone in a historical gown, and neither of them thinks this is strange - because on Halloween, this is just what the Night Market becomes. It is the most photographed, most food-dense, most visually strange version of the whole year.
The food vendors are the same ones you already love - the Filipino bowls, the Korean street food, the Japanese snacks, the handmade goods - but the context flips. Walking the vendor rows past the waterfront while a city's worth of costumes moves through the same aisles is San Diego doing its own version of Halloween.
Arrive before 7 to grab a bay-side table before they fill. Bring cash if you have it - not every vendor takes cards. Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Hwy, San Diego. October 31st. Free.
The market comes back in other months without the costumes, and the regulars will happily argue with you about which edition is the real one.

Every Saturday and Sunday, the heart of San Diego historic Gaslamp Quarter transforms into an outdoor open-air artisan market. The Gaslamp Artisan Market -- known as GLAM -- runs the length of 5th Avenue between Market Street and J Street, with 70 local artisans showcasing handmade, one-of-a-kind goods. This is where San Diego independent makers set up shop: handcrafted jewelry, original paintings, ceramics, leather goods, woven textiles, hand-poured candles, botanical skincare, and prints from local artists who live and work in this city every day. The market hosts live music from local musicians throughout the day. GLAM is free to attend and open to all ages. Shaded seating is available. The market runs 10 AM to 4 PM. Getting there: Located in the Gaslamp Quarter, easily accessible by trolley (Gaslamp Quarter station on the Blue and Orange line). Street parking and paid lots available on nearby blocks. Your chest hears them before your ears do. A sound comes in off the water, every conversation on the Embarcadero stops mid-sentence, and a few thousand heads tilt back at the same moment. This is the week the Blue Angels belong to San Diego Bay, flying low enough that the downtown skyline becomes their backdrop.
What visitors miss is the quieter half. You can walk aboard Navy destroyers, submarines, and amphibious ships free of charge, up the gangway and into the passageways where somebody's kid stands on deployment. The Parade of Ships moves through the bay, the bands play, and the city says out loud that the Navy is its largest employer. This is not a show San Diego hosts. It is San Diego looking at itself.

The lawn chairs are the tell. Nobody hauls a folding chair to a shopping event. They bring one to a place they intend to stay a while, and that is what the south bay figured out about this one before anybody else did.
A San Diego non-profit runs it on a stubborn premise: give small food businesses, independent artists, and community organizations a platform, and charge nobody at the door — not the vendors who could never afford a higher-barrier market, and not you. What comes out the other side reads less like a curated marketplace and more like a neighborhood that happened to bring dinner. Street food across a stack of cuisines, craft tables, community groups tabling, a DJ working the afternoon into the evening, kids underfoot the whole time.

This one is inside a brewery with fire pits and ax throwing, which sounds like a mismatch until you are standing in the yard on a Friday with a beer, listening to somebody explain their supply chain because you asked.
Twenty-odd vendors, vetted rather than assembled: zero-waste food, organic and locally sourced goods, refillables, clothing where the seller can tell you exactly where each part of it came from. Not the performative kind. The kind that gets more specific the harder you push.

Valle de Guadalupe winemakers and Ensenada cooks work the same tables here as the San Diego kitchens do, and no other American food festival can say that, because no other American city sits this close to Baja.
That is the whole identity of it. Five days of dinners, panels and headline tastings build toward an open-format weekend on the bay with downtown lit up behind you, hundreds of producers and chefs spread across stations you wander between with no schedule to keep. Coastal wine, Baja wine, craft beverage, and food from people who cook here all year rather than fly in for it. The smaller pre-festival dinners in restaurants around the county are ticketed on their own and are where the real conversations happen.
Along the waterfront in early November, walkable from Little Italy, and the Grand Tasting sessions go weeks ahead of the date.

A record turns ten and you realise you have been dating the rest of your life against it. You know where you were living. You know who you were trying to impress. The album did not change; the distance did.
Bright Moments came out in 2016 and became one of those records that spread entirely sideways — SoundCloud, shared links, a friend saying just listen to it. Aaron Velasquez builds it out of crate-dug funk and live instrumentation rather than presets, which is why it has aged like a record and not like a playlist. Shrimpnose opens.
Quartyard is an outdoor lot made of shipping containers in the East Village, so this is a six p.m. show under an open sky rather than a dark room — closer to a block party than a concert, and the right shape for a record that always sounded like late summer.

The last few hours before a week starts are usually spent quietly dreading it. Spend them in a cold building instead, watching a puck move faster than seems reasonable, with the sun still up outside.
That is Sunday hockey at Pechanga: an unhurried rhythm, families settling in, kids asleep in the car on the way home, nobody negotiating a bedtime. Colorado brings the Avalanche's prospects down, so both benches are stacked with players a month from a call-up who know exactly what that means, and the urgency shows in the pace. The Gulls play the quick, skilled style the Ducks want out of their pipeline, against one of the better programs in the league, for a fraction of what a big-league seat costs.
Pechanga Arena on Sports Arena Blvd, where the cheap seats near the ice are the good ones.
Make it the thing your family does. Somebody out there is going to be famous, and your kid gets to say they were in the building.

A Hammond organ swirl, a loose baggy shuffle, the sound of a dance floor and a guitar band deciding they were the same thing - that groove came out of Manchester at the end of the 80s, and almost no one carried it further or with more grace than The Charlatans. What makes them matter is not just the tunes; it is that they kept going through losses that would have ended anyone else, and their frontman Tim Burgess became a kind of patron saint of communal joy, the guy who taught the whole internet to listen to records together. Costumes in the stands, a mascot race between periods, and a concourse full of children already three candy bars into the evening. A Halloween hockey game has a chaos entirely its own, and Pechanga Arena leans into every bit of it. Underneath the costumes there is a real game. The Gulls chase two points against Henderson, who arrive as one of the sharpest clubs they will see all season, and the rivalry has enough teeth that the hockey holds up even for the people who came for the bit. San Diego plays the quick, skilled style you would expect from a club built in the Ducks' image, which makes for exactly the kind of fast, watchable night that turns a first-timer into somebody who starts checking the schedule. It is also affordable in a way big-league sport no longer is. Wear a costume, get close enough to the glass to hear the boards, and let the whole family have the night. It is not a Renaissance fair and it is not a reenactment. It is a city remembering that before the rooftop bars and the convention hotels, this was a frontier town where everything was possible and most of it was inadvisable.
The block around the Davis-Horton House fills up with contests, dance troupes, live music, food, and historical activities built on the theory that kids learn best when nobody uses the word learning. A nine-year-old tries panning for gold. A fourteen-year-old pretends not to enjoy the Civil War-era music right up until they do. Somebody in period costume explains how the house survived both a fire and a real estate collapse, which is a very San Diego pair of disasters.

You know that feeling when the whole room is moving and nobody rehearsed it — when the bass line picks up and two hundred strangers decide at exactly the same moment that tonight is the night they stop being careful. Medium Build makes music for that moment. Nick Carpenter built this project in a garage in Boise and turned it into something that fills rooms coast to coast with people who never heard the word 'indie-folk' and don't care. The live show is a sweaty, theatrical, grinning mess — brass instruments nobody expected, singalongs nobody planned, and a drummer who looks like he's having more fun than anyone in the building. The Scratch opens. Monday nights at the Observatory have a different energy than the weekend — smaller crowd, louder per capita, everyone there on purpose. If you've never heard either act, that's the point. This is the kind of Monday night that makes Tuesday morning feel like a badge of honor.

Hasbro's tongue-in-cheek Apology Tour arrives at House of Blues San Diego during SDCC week — and if you grew up with the 1986 Transformers movie, you already know what they're apologizing for. Forty years after the animated film that traumatized a generation (yes, THAT scene), this is the live concert celebration that turns grief into guitar solos.
Stan Bush performs The Touch — the anthem that has outlived the movie, the toys, and every live-action sequel since. Vince DiCola, who scored the original film, returns with the synth-heavy compositions that defined an era. Britta Phillips, the original singing voice of Jem from Jem and the Holograms, brings an unexpected crossover that 80s kids didn't know they needed. Knights of Unicron and Cold Slither round out a lineup built for people who know that 1986 was the year animation got serious.
This is not a nostalgia act. This is the room where people who cried at a cartoon robot's death — and never fully recovered — gather to hear the music that made it hit so hard. The kind of night where a stranger next to you mouths every word to Dare and you realize you've known each other your whole life.
Doors open at 7 PM. Show starts at 8 PM. General admission is 50 dollars. VIP is 100 dollars and includes early entry, exclusive merch, private viewing area, and a gift bag of curated items. If you grew up in California between 2012 and 2016, there's a good chance The Story So Far was the soundtrack to the drive that changed something. Pop-punk with the self-awareness to know it's pop-punk and the conviction to play it like it matters anyway — the Walnut Creek band that turned suburban restlessness into something a generation moshed to in venues exactly like this one.
SOMA's Mainstage is the right room for this. Big enough to hold the energy, small enough that the pit reaches the stage. The Starting Line opens with the kind of elder-emo gravitas that makes the crowd remember there was pop-punk before there was The Story So Far, and Ultra Q fills the gap between nostalgia and whatever comes next. Then TSSF walks on and the room forgets it has a ceiling.
This is an all-ages, general admission, standing show. If you know, you know. If you don't, ask the person next to you — they've been waiting for this since the tour was announced.
Friday, November 6, 2026 at 8:00 PM. SOMA, 3350 Sports Arena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92110. All ages, general admission.
