Nov 25 – Nov 26, 2026 ✨ New Sound Nightclub, 1642 N Las Palmas…

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the one night of the year the whole city comes home. Everyone who moved away for school or a job or a person is back in their childhood bedroom with nothing to do until the turkey, and every one of them is texting the same four people about it. Sound sits on Las Palmas behind a door that gives away nothing from the sidewalk, and the argument for the place has always been the rig rather than the decor. No bottle service theater, no roaming photographer, no view of the room from the street. Just a dark rectangle and a system built to be felt in your sternum at two in the morning. You will run into somebody you went to high school with. That is not a risk of the evening, it is the entire point of the evening. Wear something you can explain over breakfast the next day. Sound Nightclub, 1642 N Las Palmas Ave. Doors ten, Wednesday the 25th.

Jan 29 – Jan 30, 2027 ✨ New $30.60 Sound Nightclub, 1642 N Las Palmas…

The last Friday in January is the bottom of the year. The holidays are a rumour, nothing warms up for another two months, and the only honest response is to find a dark room and stay in it until something shifts. Sound is the Hollywood answer to that: an unmarked door on Las Palmas, a rig built for people who care about low end, and a booking policy that leans on DJs who play long rather than names printed large. Ten o'clock start, which here means the first ninety minutes are for the people who actually came for the music and the room fills in behind them later. There is nothing else on this date for forty miles. That is not a complaint, it is the reason to go. Send it to whoever has been indoors since New Year's. From ten on January 29, Las Palmas in Hollywood.

While you are looking Different scene, same night out.

O'side Turkey Trot 2026 — Oceanside Thanksgiving 5K & Kids Run
Nov 26, 2026 Oceanside Civic Center Plaza, 300 …

Runner's World named it one of the top trots in the country. The LA Times agreed. But nobody in Oceanside calls it that — they just call it the thing they do before breakfast on Thanksgiving, the one where the whole family shows up whether or not they actually run. The O'side Turkey Trot starts from Civic Center Plaza and heads through downtown Oceanside while most of the city is still dark. There's a 5K for the runners and a Kids Run for the ones who sprint the first hundred yards and walk the rest holding a parent's hand. The costumes range from coordinated family outfits to solo turkey suits held together with duct tape and determination. The post-race scene — stretched out across the plaza with the ocean visible at the end of the street — is Thanksgiving's opening act. The crowd lingers because there's nowhere better to be at 8 AM on a holiday than surrounded by neighbors who just did something mildly ridiculous together in the North County dawn. Thursday, November 26, 2026. 6:00 AM. Oceanside Civic Center Plaza, 300 N Coast Hwy, Oceanside 92054. Families do this every Thanksgiving then walk out to the pier, and the same organisers race up the coast the rest of the year.

Las Posadas at Olvera Street 2026

Somebody knocks on a door and is turned away. Then another door, and another. That refusal is the point of the whole ritual, and standing in a candlelit crowd singing it out loud in Spanish does something that reading about it never will. For nine nights before Christmas the procession winds through the oldest marketplace in Los Angeles, candles and images of the Holy Family carried by people whose families have done this on this street for more than a century. When the last door finally opens, the night turns over: food, music, and the pinatas, which is where the children take the evening away from the adults completely. Seven-pointed stars packed with fruit and candy, a blindfold, and everyone singing the song that tells you how many swings you get. Olvera Street beside Union Station, easy on the Metro, free and open to anyone who arrives by dusk. Bring somebody who got turned away from something this year.

Dec 31, 2026 Zebulon, 2478 Fletcher Dr, Los Ang…

Before there was techno in Detroit there was electro in Los Angeles, and a good deal of it came out of one man, one drum machine, and a car full of speakers driving around South Central in 1983. Greg Broussard still performs with a Roland TR-808, live, on stage, programming it in front of you rather than pressing play on a laptop. He is one of the genuine architects of West Coast electro-funk — the sound that fed into Miami bass, into early hip-hop, into most of what came after — and he has been playing continuously for four decades without ever being fully absorbed into the mainstream that borrowed from him. A New Year's Eve show from an LA originator in a room on Fletcher Drive that actually cares about this history. Better than a countdown in a hotel ballroom. Eight at night on the thirty-first of December. Stay for midnight.

Anaheim Ducks vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Jan 3, 2027 ✨ New Honda Center, 2695 E Katella Ave, …

The first Sunday of a new year is the last free day before the whole machine starts again. School, work, traffic, the alarm. You can feel it coming from about four in the afternoon onward, and the only real defence is to be somewhere with a scoreboard. Orange County's team exists because of a Disney movie, which is a genuinely ridiculous origin story for a club that went on to win this league in 2007. Longtime people still call the building the Pond, after a name it has not officially carried in twenty years, and you can tell roughly how long somebody has been coming by whether they say it. A five o'clock start on a Sunday means families, which means the noise is higher pitched and considerably more sincere than a weeknight crowd. For the kid in your life who has only ever seen ice on television. Five o'clock at 2695 E Katella Ave.

Anime Expo 2027 — Los Angeles Convention Center
Jul 1 – Jul 4, 2027 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

You will be tired in a way that feels earned. Four days, a hundred thousand people, and not one of them needs you to explain what you are talking about. The largest anime convention in North America takes the Los Angeles Convention Center over Fourth of July weekend and spills into the JW Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton beside it. Industry panels, screening rooms, autograph sessions with voice actors and composers, concerts that sell out weeks ahead. Studios from Japan use this as their main North American announcement stage — if a sequel or adaptation is being revealed, it often happens in a room you could be standing in. The exhibit hall carries imported merchandise and collaboration exclusives that surface nowhere else on the continent. Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S Figueroa St. Thursday through Sunday. Badges run from top-tier early-access down to single-day passes. Book the connected hotel corridor months out. Everyone who tells you that learned it the hard way.

Pacific Beach Night Market
Monthly · Next Nov 4 Free Bayard St and Garnet Ave, Pacific …

A hundred and fifty steps from the ocean, a corner of Pacific Beach turns into a block party that nobody had to organize you into. Fire pits going. Nine to twelve food vendors rotating week to week, so the thing you loved last time might be gone and the thing replacing it might be better. Live music that is genuinely local — acoustic sets, small bands, the occasional DJ. Games. A crowd of PB locals and students and people who simply wandered up from the beach still holding a towel. Past vendors have run birria tacos, banh mi, craft lemonade, Hawaiian shave ice, artisan pastries, small-batch hot sauces. A few craft sellers usually set up alongside. This is a neighborhood gathering, not a ticketed event. Free. No RSVP. You walk up. Bayard St and Garnet Ave, Pacific Beach. 5 to 9:30 PM. Bring a layer — it cools off fast after sunset, even in August.
