SeaWorld San Diego, 500 SeaWorld D…
SeaWorld's Halloween Spooktacular is the daytime counterpart to the after-dark Howl-O-Scream, built for families with kids who love costumes but are not ready for the kind of jump scares that make adults question their life choices. Running every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from September 11 through November 2, the Spooktacular fills the park with trick-or-treat trails, costumed characters, and the California debut of the all-new Baby Shark Halloween Show -- which, if you have a child under six, is the kind of sentence that makes you immediately check your calendar.
Included with regular park admission, no separate ticket required. The seasonal trick-or-treat trail winds through the park with stops at themed stations. Kids ages 3-9 receive a free one-day admission ticket with a paid adult ticket at $99.99. A Waterfront Pumpkin Patch overlooking Mission Bay rounds out the afternoon with a view that makes the holiday feel like it belongs here.
SeaWorld is at 500 SeaWorld Drive, off Interstate 8 at the SeaWorld Drive exit.

The sea lion in antlers is not what converts you. Neither is the manufactured snowfall over a park that has never seen a real flake. What does it is the moment somewhere near the waterfront when a live choir starts a song your grandmother used to hum, and the million lights on every surface stop being decorations and start being December, and you are small again in the best possible way.
SeaWorld's Christmas Celebration runs daily from November 13 through January 3, making it one of the longest holiday events in San Diego and the only one where Christmas lights reflect off actual ocean. The nightly laser show fires every evening without exception. Santa and his real reindeer handle photos with the patience of professionals. Clyde and Seamore's Christmas Special at Sea Lion Stadium is exactly as silly and exactly as effective as a show performed by trained sea mammals deserves to be.
The unlock that veterans know: weeknight visits in mid-November and early December are uncrowded enough to feel private. The lights are identical, the shows run on schedule, and the hot chocolate line is measured in seconds instead of minutes. If you have never visited SeaWorld after dark during the holidays, this is the version that makes believers.
Daily November 13, 2026 through January 3, 2027. 500 SeaWorld Drive, 92109. The holidays start when SeaWorld says they start.

One version of you loves being scared. The other version pretends otherwise. Both of them want to go, and only one is going to admit it in the parking lot.
Five haunted houses open across the park after dark, each engineered to find a different frequency of dread you assumed you had outgrown. One drops you into a Mardi Gras gone wrong, bayou witches walking you through a graveyard that refuses to stay quiet. Another puts you inside a house that feeds on whatever fear you carried through the door. The coasters run in the dark, which changes everything about a ride you thought you knew, and the scare zones between houses mean there is no safe path from one to the next.
Select nights through the fall, with admission starting hours before the screaming does. Bring the friend who grabs your arm and then denies it in the car.

The best beer you ever had was probably one you had not planned on — handed to you by somebody while a band you had never heard of played something that made you stop mid-sentence.
That is the whole shape of these weekends. Craft breweries set up along the water with tasting pours and full glasses, BBQ vendors smoking ribs and brisket you can smell three exhibits away, and bands playing against a backdrop of the actual Pacific rather than a painted version of one.
This is not a beer festival that happens to be at a theme park. It is a theme park that turns into a beer garden every weekend for a month. You can be on a coaster in the afternoon and holding a hazy IPA twenty minutes later. The tasting lanyards let you sample across breweries without committing to a full pour of something unfamiliar, and the whole thing rides on top of park admission.
Bring the person who thinks they have outgrown theme parks. Hand them a glass.

There is a stadium inside a theme park where orcas breach behind the Jumbotron and forty thousand strangers lose their minds together when the ref blows the whistle. On July 19, SeaWorld San Diego's Orca Stadium becomes the most surreal World Cup watch party in America, a place where the roar of the crowd competes with the splash of a sixty-ton animal and nobody wins because both are perfect. Coca-Cola is hosting the FIFA World Cup 2026 Finals screening right here, doors open at 10 AM with soccer activations, photo ops, and limited-release event premiums while supplies last (one per person, and yes, people will line up). The match kicks off at noon. The setting is what makes this unlike anything else: you are watching the most important soccer match on the planet in a marine amphitheater built for wonder, surrounded by families and die-hards and people who came for the whales and stayed for the goal. Admission is included with general park entry so no separate ticket is required. That means every family already at SeaWorld that day stumbles into a World Cup finals party they did not plan for, and every soccer fan gets a theme park thrown in as a bonus. Parking at SeaWorld San Diego is available on-site. Come early. The activations start at 10 AM and the good seats go fast. This is the kind of event that only exists because someone at SeaWorld looked at the calendar and the stadium and said: why not both? Orca Stadium, SeaWorld San Diego. July 19, 2026. The world's game at its most unexpected venue.

North City, 251 N City Dr, San Mar…
First-year festivals have a quality nothing else does. Nobody is jaded yet, everyone is trying slightly too hard, and it shows in the best possible way.
This one is North County deciding out loud that it is worth gathering for. The street closes through North City, the walkable village that grew up beside the university, and fills with local makers, food trucks, live music, and craft beer from the breweries that turned this stretch of the 78 into a destination. Families drift down the middle of a road they normally drive. The October light handles the rest. It is a hometown afternoon in a suburb still deciding what kind of place it wants to be.
A Sunday in San Marcos, free to wander, with parking that is genuinely easy for once.
Go hold up something scrappy in its first year. Bring a friend, get a beer, and be part of the reason it happens again.

The other nights are rehearsals, and everybody involved knows it. The park knows it. The veterans who go multiple nights a season know it. The ticket price on the last one says it out loud.
On actual Halloween the party and the holiday finally line up. The Headless Horseman rides through a park on the one night of the year the calendar agrees with him. Madame Leota presides over a street seance while the rest of the country is answering the door with a bowl of candy. The Sanderson Sisters materialize on the date they are owed. The atmosphere the park has been building since late summer finally has a real Halloween to meet, and the Treat Trails run right up to the end of it.
California Adventure in Anaheim, a separate ticket from park admission, the party running late into the night.
This date goes first every year. Decide now who you are going with.

There's a moment every November when the air shifts in Orange County — not just the temperature, but the whole energy of the place. Buena Park transforms under a canopy of millions of twinkling lights, and if you've ever walked through Knott's Berry Farm during the holidays, you already know what that does to you. It's the kind of evening where you forget your phone for whole minutes at a time.
Knott's Merry Farm runs from November 20 through January 3, turning the park into a full holiday village. The rides stay open — yes, including the big ones — but the real draw is what happens between them. Live shows thread through the night with carolers and dancers, the tree lighting ceremony anchors the whole experience, and the food leans hard into comfort: boysenberry hot chocolate, funnel cake with seasonal twists, holiday turkey legs the size of your forearm.
What makes this different from a generic lights display is the weight of the place. Knott's has been doing this for decades. The craft village isn't decoration — it's artisans who set up shop every winter. The Christmas Crafts Village dates back to the original Berry Farm days, and the handmade ornaments and blown glass you find there aren't available the rest of the year.
Knott's Merry Farm is open daily during Thanksgiving week and on select days through the season — generally Friday through Monday, with extended dates as Christmas approaches. The park is at 8039 Beach Blvd, Buena Park. Daily admission starts around $60. Bring layers — Southern California evenings in December are colder than anyone from out of state expects.

Los Angeles Zoo, 5333 Zoo Dr, Los …
When the sun drops behind the Griffith hills, the animals go to sleep and the zoo turns into something else entirely — a mile of illuminated trails, oversized lanterns shaped like creatures you just saw in the daytime, and the quiet realization that you're walking through a botanical garden at night with a hot chocolate.
LA Zoo Lights: Animals Aglow runs from November 13, 2026 through January 11, 2027 at the Los Angeles Zoo. After-dark entry transforms the grounds with custom-built animal-shaped lanterns, seasonal light installations, themed displays, and entertainment. Closed most Mondays and Tuesdays, plus December 24-25 and December 31.
Los Angeles Zoo, 5333 Zoo Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90027. Tickets $19-$29 at lazoo.org.
This is the holiday outing that makes people who normally avoid holiday outings say yes. The zoo after dark feels nothing like the zoo during the day.

Something happens to the Santa Clarita Valley in late November. The thrill capital of the world trades screams for wonder — not all of them, but enough. Six Flags Magic Mountain drapes itself in millions of lights, and suddenly the park that exists to terrify you becomes the park that makes you feel twelve years old again.
Holiday in the Park runs from November 26 through January 3, transforming the park into a holiday spectacle. The coasters still run — some of them in the dark now, which changes them completely — but the real experience is walking through themed areas where every corner has been redesigned for the season. The tree lighting show is the anchor: dancers, singers, and an enormous Christmas tree that makes everyone in the crowd reach for their phone.
The park operates Friday through Monday during the holiday season, with extended hours as December deepens. That means Magic Mountain is open on weekday evenings when almost nothing else in the valley is — Monday night at Magic Mountain during the holidays is one of the quieter, more magical experiences you can have in SoCal.
Holiday in the Park is included with regular park admission. The park is at 26101 Magic Mountain Pkwy, Valencia, CA 91355. If you haven't been since summer, this is a different place. The desert cold, the lights reflecting off the metal of X2 and Twisted Colossus, the smell of hot chocolate mixing with funnel cake — it's a SoCal tradition that doesn't get the credit it deserves.

Out in the wide-open canyons of the Safari Park, the holidays go big. Wild Holidays wraps Escondido's sprawling wildlife park in lights and seasonal cheer, a more expansive, open-air counterpart to the Zoo's celebration, with animals, entertainment, and glittering displays spread across the park's rolling acres. Included with regular admission, it runs on select nights from November 27, 2026 through January 3, 2027. Come for a holiday outing that trades mall crowds for open sky and giraffes on the horizon, and make an afternoon of it before the lights come alive at dusk. Bring the family, bring warm layers, and let the kids run under the lights. It is the perfect antidote to a season that can feel like a to-do list, out where Southern California still feels wild.
