Morgan Page

Tomorrow · Oct 8 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

You do not actually want 2011 back. What you want is the version of yourself who had not yet found out how any of it turned out — and certain melodic builds put you back in that body for about ninety seconds at a time. Ventura Music Hall is a mid-size room an hour up the coast from the Valley, and that hour is the entire character of the place. Nobody arrives there by accident. The drive back down the 101 at one in the morning with the ocean on your right is honestly half of why people make the trip at all. Morgan Page has been putting out records since the mid-2000s and carries a Grammy nomination for a remix, but the reason he still fills rooms is simpler: he plays like a man who never stopped believing a long build deserves its payoff. East Main Street, eight o'clock, Thursday the eighth of October.

Sploinky Rave

In 2 days · Oct 9 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Rave culture keeps reinventing itself in whatever room will have it, and the current wave is being run by people young enough that the nineties are pure inheritance rather than memory — faster tempos, internet-native aesthetics, and names chosen specifically to be unserious. Nights billed like this one are less about a headliner than about a crowd that has organized itself online and needs somewhere physical to land. That is genuinely how scenes start. Ventura is not where anybody expects that to happen, which is most of why it is interesting; a coastal town with a converted bowling alley and a flat floor is exactly the kind of place a scene can afford. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard, a Friday. Whoever is running this will be running something bigger in two years, and the people in the room already know it.

She Wants Revenge

In 3 days · Oct 10 – Oct 11 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

A very specific gloom belonged to Los Angeles clubs in the mid-2000s — black jeans, a drum machine, a bassline borrowed wholesale from Manchester, and lyrics delivered in a deadpan that people either found irresistible or unbearable. This band was the local product of it, from the Valley, and the songs have aged into something more interesting than their moment: what read as posturing then now sounds like a real record about being young and unpleasant in this city. Their shows have become reunion territory in the literal sense, where the audience is largely the people who were at those club nights and have not seen one another since. The Ventura hall has a flat floor and a good low end, which matters for material built on bass. Music at 9:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard, a Saturday. Nights like this are less about the band than about who else turns out to have been there the whole time.

TAKE3

In 9 days · Oct 16 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Classical training tends to produce players who can do anything and are permitted to do one thing, which is why the musicians who defect from it are often the most interesting people in a room. This trio — violin, cello, piano — plays with conservatory technique and a setlist that refuses to stay in its lane, moving between the repertoire they were raised on and arrangements of rock and pop that are genuinely reworked rather than politely quoted. The cellist and violinist attack their instruments harder than the seating chart suggests. It works on people who think they do not like classical music and on people who do, which is a narrow needle to thread. Music at 7:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard, an early start for a Friday. Chamber players who tour rooms like this are building an audience one town at a time, and you can feel the room deciding to be part of that.

Strangelove - The Depeche Mode Experience

In 10 days · Oct 17 – Oct 18 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Tribute acts get dismissed until you stand in a room where four hundred people are singing a synth line together, and then the argument gets much harder to make. Depeche Mode occupies an unusual place in Southern California specifically — it is the band that a generation of Latino kids in the Inland Empire and East LA claimed as their own, so completely that the devotion here has no real parallel anywhere else in the country. That crowd is who fills these nights. The band doing the playing takes the material seriously enough to get the gear right rather than just the haircuts. Expect black clothing, expect people who came with the same friends they went to the original shows with. Music at 9:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. This particular devotion is a whole regional subculture, and the shows are where it becomes visible to itself.

Xavier Wulf

In 11 days · Oct 18 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Rap that came out of image boards and file-sharing before it came out of any city has a texture the industry never quite figured out how to package, and Memphis is where a lot of it started. Wulf built his following in that era, entirely online, with a voice that sits low and unbothered over beats that sound like they were made at four in the morning. The people who found him then are unusually proprietary about it. His live shows are known for being far rowdier than the recordings imply — the crowd does most of the work and he lets it. A mid-size Ventura room on a Sunday puts that energy in a space small enough to feel it. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. Scenes that formed on the internet before they formed anywhere physical produce rooms where everybody recognizes everybody without ever having met.

George Clanton

In 14 days · Oct 21 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Vaporwave was supposed to be a joke that ran out of road. Instead an entire generation quietly used it to grieve an internet that felt, for about four years, like somewhere you could actually live. George Clanton is the one who turned that into something you can stand in a room and shout along to. He runs 100% Electronica, the label that dragged a message-board aesthetic into a real scene with real tours, and his shows are known for crowd-surfing, which has no business working for chillwave and works anyway. Much of the sampled material underneath it is Japanese city pop — records cut in Tokyo in the eighties for people with money, a car, and an unhurried future — and the collision between that optimism and a floor full of people who have none of those things is the whole emotional engine of the night. Midweek, an hour from the city. Nobody is there casually. Doors at eight on Wednesday the twenty-first, up on East Main.

Black Flag

Oct 22, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Four bars drawn by Raymond Pettibon have been tattooed on more forearms than most national flags, and everybody who has one can tell you exactly where they were the first time the second side of that record made sense. Hermosa Beach built this. The band got run out of its own county by police who treated a gig like a riot in progress, which is a large part of why the songs still sound like somebody arguing with a wall. Whatever you think about which lineup counts, the material does not care — played loud in a room this size it is still the most efficient forty minutes in American music. Ventura is the right kind of room for it: a flat floor, a low stage, no seats to defend. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. Half the people here saw them the first time and the other half were not born, and the interesting part of the night is watching those two groups recognize each other.

Los Hermanos Mendoza

Oct 23 – Oct 24, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Norteño is family music in the most literal sense — the accordion gets handed down, the bajo sexto gets handed down, and the group is usually people who share a last name and have been playing together since before any of them could drive. That lineage is the whole appeal and it is also why the recorded versions never quite land the way a room does. Brothers who have played together their entire lives phrase together in a way rehearsal cannot manufacture. A Friday night in a mid-size Ventura room means the audience is local, multigenerational, and there to dance rather than to observe. Grandparents will be on the floor before anyone under thirty commits. Music at 9:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. If your family had this playing on a Sunday morning growing up, this is the show you bring them to, and that is most of the point.

Mdou Moctar | Fully Seated

Oct 28, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

The guitar solo fell out of fashion in America roughly the same decade it became the central instrument of a music scene in the Sahara, played on gear rigged to run off whatever power was available and traded between phones on memory cards rather than sold. Moctar came up in that circuit, in Tuareg, and the band he tours with plays fast enough that people who came expecting something meditative spend the night recalibrating. Comparisons to Hendrix get made constantly and are not really wrong, though they undersell how much of this is a rhythm section doing something unfamiliar underneath. This particular date is seated, which changes the experience — it puts the attention on the playing rather than the room, and for this band that is arguably the better version. Music at 8:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. Anybody who has followed the West African guitar circuit for a while will tell you these tours are rare and the recordings do not prepare you.

Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, Fruko, and Carmelo Torres

Oct 29, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Cumbia probably arrived in your life through a car stereo belonging to somebody older than you, and for years you had no idea the drums and the cane flutes on it came from a specific town on the Colombian coast where the same families have been playing that way for generations. This bill is that lineage, stacked. One act is the traditional gaita ensemble whose members are the direct inheritors of the form; another is the bassist and bandleader whose arrangements turned it into the sound of Colombian dancefloors in the seventies; the third carries the accordion tradition forward now. Three generations of one music on a Thursday, which basically does not happen north of the border. Expect actual dancing rather than watching — the older couples in the room will make that decision for everybody else within two songs. Music at 8:00 PM at the Ventura room on East Thompson Boulevard. If you have family who would understand what this lineup means, this is the show you call them about.

TUSK: The Classic Tribute to Fleetwood Mac | Fully Seated

Oct 30 – Oct 31, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Certain records function as family furniture — they were in the house before you were, and you know every word without ever having chosen to. Rumours is the clearest example in American life, which is why a tribute to it draws three generations to the same room and why nobody in that room is embarrassed. The band doing the playing takes the arrangements seriously, including the vocal interplay that is the actual difficulty of this material. Seated changes the night; it makes it about listening rather than dancing, and the harmonies reward that. A converted bowling alley in Ventura is a funnier and warmer setting than a theater. Music at 9:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard, a Friday. Parents bring adult children to these and it usually turns out both of them had been meaning to suggest it.

The Bridge City Sinners

Oct 31 – Nov 1, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Acoustic instruments played at punk speed by people covered in tattoos is a combination that reads as a costume until you hear the actual playing, and then it becomes obvious these are serious musicians who chose banjo and upright bass on purpose. The scene they come out of — street-corner folk punk, gutter bluegrass, whatever anyone is calling it this year — grew almost entirely outside the industry, built on touring and word of mouth and a fiercely protective audience. Halloween is the correct night for it. The material is already full of death, whiskey, and the devil; the crowd shows up in costume without being asked and the whole thing tips into something closer to a ritual than a concert. Music at 9:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. Scenes like this one exist mostly by people telling each other, which is why the rooms are always fuller than the streaming numbers predict.

DAX - The Anger Management Tour

Nov 1, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Rapping directly at people who are having the worst year of their life is a lane almost nobody occupies seriously, and the audience for it is enormous and largely invisible to the industry. Dax built a following of millions on that — verses about depression, faith, and being underestimated, delivered without irony and without much interest in what critics make of it. The relationship with that audience is the whole thing; people arrive at these shows having written to him and been answered. It produces a room unlike a normal rap show, closer to something congregational. A Ventura hall on a Sunday night, flat floor, a few hundred people. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. Whoever you know who has been quiet lately is who this crowd brought with them.

The Black Angels: Passover 2026 Tour

Nov 2, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Certain records only work in the dark, and the first one this band made is the reigning example — a drone, a tremolo, and a drummer who refuses to speed up no matter how much the song seems to want it. Twenty years on they are the reason a whole Texas psych scene exists as a scene rather than as a handful of bands, having built the festival that gathers it every year. Live, the visuals matter as much as the volume; the projections are handled by a person who has been doing it since the beginning and the whole thing is calibrated to make a room feel bigger and slower than it is. Ventura's flat-floor hall on East Thompson Boulevard suits that better than a theater would. Music at 8:00 PM on a Monday, which is its own kind of gift — the crowd that turns out for a psych show at the start of a work week is entirely people who actually wanted to be there.

Nov 5, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

The same band two hours apart on the same tour draws two entirely different crowds, and the coastal date is where the Ventura County kids who cannot make the desert or the eastside finally get their turn. This is a Los Angeles group that formed in middle school and stayed together, with a following that is young, heavily Latino, and unusually devoted for a band this size. The music drifted from bedroom psych into something funkier without losing the haze that made people attach to it. Live the rhythm section is the surprise. A flat-floor room in Ventura on a Thursday, a few hundred people. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. Bands who grew up alongside their audience make rooms where nobody feels like a customer.

Plini - An Unnameable Desire North American Tour

Nov 7, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Instrumental music has to earn every single minute, because nobody is being carried along by a chorus or a story — and the crowd for this is unusually clear-eyed about that, which makes them a demanding audience and a generous one at once. Plini writes long-form guitar music that resolves rather than sprawls, warm where the genre is usually cold, and the online community that grew around it is one of the last genuinely nerdy corners of guitar culture: people posting tab, arguing about tone, learning the parts. A meaningful fraction of any room on this tour can play what is happening on stage, which changes the atmosphere entirely. Watch the front rows during the difficult passages. Music at 7:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. This is a Saturday, and the players who come to it tend to travel in groups from whatever guitar forum or Discord raised them.

The California Honeydrops - Sweet Like That Tour 2026

Nov 10, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

A band with no setlist and a habit of walking off the stage into the middle of the floor works better in some rooms than others, and a flat-floor converted bowling alley is close to ideal — there is nowhere for the audience to hide. The music is second-line brass, Bay Area soul and old blues played by people who started out busking and never lost the instinct for reading a crowd directly. Requests get taken. Nobody stands still for long. A Tuesday night in Ventura means a smaller and more local room than the weekend dates on this run. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. Weeknight shows by bands this participatory are the ones people talk about at work the next day and cannot adequately explain.

Nov 12, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Young bands playing loud melodic rock in mid-size rooms are the part of the ecosystem nobody writes about and everybody depends on — the shows where a hundred and fifty people decide whether something has legs. This is one of those nights. The name tells you roughly where the guitars sit, somewhere between garage and psych, and the appeal at this stage is watching a band that has not yet decided exactly what it is. Ventura has quietly become a real stop on the coastal touring circuit rather than a place bands skip between Los Angeles and San Francisco, and the local crowd turns out accordingly. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard, a Thursday. Catching a band before the room fills is the whole reason people keep going to shows on weeknights.

Louisiana produces singers whose voices carry church in them whether or not the song is about anything holy, and this is one of the clearer examples working now — soul phrasing over songs that are structurally closer to rock, delivered by somebody who has been doing it since he was a teenager and has never needed a studio to sound good. He has spent two decades on a circuit of rooms this size rather than chasing anything larger, which produced an audience that treats him as theirs. Live the band is horn-driven and the ballads are where the room goes quiet. A Saturday in a Ventura hall with a flat floor and a real crowd. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. The Residents | Fully Seated

Nov 25, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Anonymity used to be a career-ending choice and this band made it the entire point, spending five decades on stage with their faces covered while releasing records that treat pop music as an anthropological specimen. Nobody agrees on who is in it. That is deliberate and it has held. What gets lost in the eyeball costume is that the work itself is genuinely unsettling — song cycles about American violence, obsessive tribute albums, an approach to storytelling closer to outsider art than to rock. Seated shows suit the current material, which is more narrative than noise. The audience is one of the strangest and most pleasant in music: people who have followed this since vinyl, art students, and a scattering of the merely curious who will leave changed. Music at 8:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. It falls the night before Thanksgiving, which is either the worst or the best possible preparation depending on your family.

Save Ferris' Annual Happy Skalidays Tour

Dec 5 – Dec 6, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

December in Southern California refuses to feel like December, and after enough years you stop fighting it and start looking for the traditions that actually match the weather — which is how a horn section playing holiday songs in double time became a real seasonal ritual for a specific Orange County generation. Monique Powell has been running this one every winter for years now and it functions the way a hometown show does: people who have not seen each other since last December turn up in the same three rows. Ska took a beating in the culture and the people who stayed loyal through that are not casual about it. Expect the pit to open during the second song and to include several adults in reindeer antlers. Music at 9:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. A performer who has spent five decades refusing every available form of irony is either the most or least fashionable thing in music depending on the year, and at the moment it is very much the former. Songs about ice cream, insects, painters and being in love, sung in several languages, with one drummer and frequently no microphone. He will stop mid-song to explain what he meant. Phones are discouraged and the room complies, which produces ninety minutes that feel genuinely disconnected from the rest of the week. Ventura's converted bowling alley is small enough that the no-amplification approach works. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard, a Wednesday in December. The Slackers

Dec 12 – Dec 13, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Ska got flattened in this country into one joke about horns and checkerboard, which is an unfair fate for a form that is mostly about restraint — the space between the notes is the whole instrument. This band has spent three decades quietly proving it, working closer to Jamaican rocksteady and early reggae than to anything that happened in a nineties American suburb, with an organ player who is the actual center of the sound. They tour relentlessly and have for so long that the crowd spans about thirty years of ages, all of whom know when to move and when to stand still. The Ventura room is flat-floored with a proper dancefloor in front of the stage, which this music requires. Music at 9:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. Getting the choreography right separates the tribute acts that work from the ones that do not — anyone can learn the vocal runs, almost nobody can move like that for ninety minutes. This group has been doing it longer than most, with a full band rather than tracks, and the material is deep enough that the deep cuts land as hard as the singles. Watching a room full of people who grew up on these records discover that their bodies still know the routines is most of the entertainment. Jan 2 – Jan 3, 2027 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Pomona has a specific place in West Coast rap that gets flattened whenever anybody outside California tells the story, and the artist who most embodies it has spent thirty years refusing to leave. The delivery is the signature — a rapid, sing-song, conversational flow that nobody has successfully copied, over production from the man who defined that whole Inland Empire sound. Records from the late nineties still get played at parties out here as though they came out last year. Live he works a crowd like a comedian, and the audience is heavily local, heavily multigenerational. A Ventura room on the first Saturday of the new year. Music at 9:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard. Duff Goldman Presents: The Tao of Duff | Fully Seated

Today · Oct 7 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Watching somebody who is genuinely great at a craft talk about it without condescension is rarer than it should be, and it scratches something that cooking television mostly stopped providing years ago. Goldman built a reputation on architecturally insane cakes, but the more interesting thing about him has always been that he trained as a real pastry chef, welds his own armatures, and treats the whole enterprise as sculpture that happens to be edible. An evening like this is closer to a lecture from a working artist than to a demo — stories about failures, about the physics of holding a six-foot cake upright, about running a kitchen. Seated, in a converted bowling alley turned music room, which is a funnier and better setting for it than a theater would be. Music at 8:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. The people who come to these tend to be the ones who actually bake, and they ask the good questions.

Oct 6, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Two people should not be able to make that much noise, and the argument about how they do it — bass through distortion until it functions as a guitar, drums that never let up — has kept a specific 2004 record in rotation for twenty years. The band broke up almost immediately after making it, spent years apart, and came back to find an audience that had grown rather than shrunk in their absence. Live it is loud in a way that is genuinely physical; the low end occupies the room rather than filling it. A Tuesday show means a crowd that took the night off work for this. Screaming while playing drums should not be physically possible, and one band made doing both at once their entire identity, and the singer doing both at once is the reason a certain kind of listener has followed them for over a decade. They came out of the Sacramento post-hardcore lineage rather than the SoCal one, all odd meters and clean-to-harsh turns that should sound academic and instead sound frantic. The audience knows every rhythmic trap and moves correctly through all of them, which is a strange and specific pleasure to witness. Monday is an unusual night for a show this heavy, and the crowd that turns out on one is entirely the committed end of the fanbase. Music at 7:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. Oct 2, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Leaving a band that critics had just decided was the most important thing happening, and then immediately making a record of lounge-lizard jazz-rock about deeply unpleasant men, is the kind of move that either ends a career or defines one. The songs are long, virtuosic, and delivered in a voice that is doing a character rather than confessing. Live it requires a large band and the players are extraordinary; the arrangements shift meter constantly and nobody looks worried. The audience skews young, obsessive, and argumentative about it online. A converted bowling alley in Ventura is a considerably smaller room than this material usually gets. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard, a Friday. Artists this divisive produce the most reliable word of mouth there is, because nobody leaves without an opinion.

Oct 1, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Solo acoustic guitar as a spectator sport sounds like a hard sell until you watch somebody play bass, melody and percussion simultaneously on one instrument and realize you have been listening to what sounded like three people. Dawes is among the handful of players working at that level, and the arrangements of familiar songs are the gateway — people arrive for a cover they recognize and stay for the original material. Seated is correct; this is music to watch hands during. The Ventura room is small enough that you can. Music at 8:00 PM on East Thompson Boulevard, a Thursday.
