Anime Expo 2026 — Day 4

Anime Expo 2026 — Day 4 closes the convention on Sunday, July 5 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Anime Expo is the largest anime convention in North America, drawing over 100,000 fans to the Los Angeles Convention Center each summer. The 2026 edition runs July 2-5 across all four days, with a massive 340,000-square-foot Exhibit Hall, Artist Alley, J-Pop and ani-song concerts, industry panels, anime premieres, cosplay competitions, autograph sessions, and gaming areas. The convention is organized by the Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation and runs continuously across all four days. Each day brings different programming, exclusive announcements, and guests from across the anime, manga, and J-Pop industries. Saturday and Sunday draw the largest crowds; Thursday and Friday move at a more manageable pace for exhibit hall access. The Los Angeles Convention Center is located at 1201 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90015, steps from the EXPO/Convention Center Metro station. Badge pickup opens before the convention; pick yours up early to avoid lines. Tickets are available at anime-expo.org. Single-day and four-day badges are offered, with four-day badges providing the best value for full-weekend attendees.

Macross: Do You Remember Love? -- First Official U.S. Theatrical Screening
In 4 days · Jul 5 800 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, C…

The film that defined the Macross franchise gets its first official US theatrical run since its original release. Not the streaming version. A theater, the original print, and an audience that knows every frame. The film itself is a theatrical retelling of the original Super Dimension Fortress Macross television series, condensed into a feature-length experience that blends mecha warfare, a love triangle, and the premise that music can end a galactic war. Directed by Noboru Ishiguro and Shoji Kawamori, the film is considered a benchmark of 1980s anime production. Its space battle sequences and character animation set standards that influenced a generation of animators. The soundtrack -- particularly Mari Iijima's original performances of Do You Remember Love? and My Boyfriend Is a Pilot -- became foundational texts of anime music culture. Worth it? Who it's for: If you have watched any Macross series, listened to Mari Iijima, or know what Valkyrie fighters are, this screening is for you -- and for the next 40 years, it will be one of those events you either attended or missed. Classic anime collector culture prizes theatrical screenings of foundational films above almost any contemporary release because of the rarity. This is a once-in-a-lifetime screening, not a revival. It is the first official time. The Novo is a 2,300-seat venue; tickets are limited. What to know before you go: The screening is Sunday July 5, 2026 at noon at The Novo by Microsoft, 800 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles. This is adjacent to Anime Expo 2026 (July 2-5 at LACC), making it a natural anchor for AX attendees. A BIGWEST Macross panel precedes the screening at Anime Expo (July 2, 1 PM, Room 511ABC at LACC). The Novo is walkable from the Convention Center. Buy tickets well in advance -- the collector community for this film is global, not local, and demand will exceed venue capacity. The Macross: Do You Remember Love? theatrical screening is the kind of event the anime community has waited for longer than most of its members have been alive. When licensing barriers fall, they sometimes fall for a single moment. This is that moment. July 5, 2026, The Novo, Los Angeles.

The Holding Company, 1841 5th Ave, San Diego. July 9th. $5 suggested donation. Nerd Nite San Diego is three twenty-minute talks on subjects that the speakers care about deeply, at a bar, for people who wanted to spend Thursday night learning something they didn't expect to learn. Nerd Nite is explicitly not a conference. The format requires speakers to be enthusiastic and accessible — you get twenty minutes to make the room care about something they walked in not knowing about, at a bar, with no slides required. The subjects run from academic research to personal obsessions to things that technically exist in the world but that most people have never thought about. The common thread is a presenter who genuinely can't stop themselves from wanting to explain this particular thing to strangers. $5 at the door. July 9th at The Holding Company in Hillcrest. sandiego.nerdnite.com for the lineup. The talks start around 7 PM. The bar is open throughout. The conversation that happens between talks is usually about something completely unrelated to what was just presented, which is the right way to spend a Thursday.

Shakespeare Pub Quiz Nights run every Thursday at 7 PM at the Shakespeare Pub & Grille in Mission Hills — San Diego's most consistent and longest-running pub quiz, drawing teams of up to six for a competitive general knowledge trivia night with themed rounds, cash prizes, and the kind of regular crowd that has been coming long enough to develop real rivalries. The format is structured: multiple rounds of general knowledge questions with themed rounds mixed in throughout the night. The host keeps the pace moving, the scoring is honest, and the prizes at the end are real — gift cards for first and second place, and the kind of bragging rights that a regular pub quiz crowd actually respects. Sign-ups start at 6 PM; the quiz kicks off at 7 PM sharp. Teams of one to six people. Shakespeare Pub & Grille, 3701 India St, San Diego, CA 92103. Mission Hills neighborhood, just north of Little Italy. Street parking on India St and surrounding streets. Free to play — just show up with your team. Prizes for first and second place. The regulars arrive early and take the same tables every week, which tells you something about what kind of room this is.

MLB All-Star Week 2026 - Philadelphia, PA
In 9 days · Jul 10 – Jul 14 Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Ban…

Philadelphia is hosting its first Midsummer Classic since 1996. Five days at Citizens Bank Park — Home Run Derby, celebrity softball, and a game that has been announcing the middle of summer since 1933. All-Star Week is not a single game -- it is five days of baseball and baseball culture. The HBCU Swingman Classic opens on July 10, a historically Black colleges and universities showcase co-created with Ken Griffey Jr. that carries its own cultural weight entirely separate from the main event. The MLB Draft follows on July 11, open to the public and one of the most accessible talent-identification events in professional sports. The Home Run Derby on July 13 streams on Netflix and draws a crowd that comes purely for the spectacle of elite athletes competing in the sport's most crowd-pleasing format. The All-Star Game closes on July 14 on Fox with the full starting lineup voted on by fans. The Capital One All-Star Village at the Pennsylvania Convention Center runs throughout the week with interactive baseball experiences. All-Star Week is worth attending if baseball is part of your identity -- but the right entry point depends on your budget. The All-Star Game carries some of the highest ticket premiums in professional sports, with resale averaging over a thousand dollars. The Home Run Derby is the pure entertainment play and typically sells for a fraction of that. The All-Star Village is the budget-conscious way in: family four-packs run around $110 for interactive baseball experiences. If you want to say you were in Philadelphia during this specific moment in baseball history, the Village gets you there. Philadelphia fans are famously passionate -- Citizens Bank Park will be as loud as it has ever been. The seven-minute walk from Pattison Station on the Broad Street Line is the most direct transit option. Plan your week in advance as multiple events span multiple days. Season ticket holders receive priority purchase access. The HBCU Classic on July 10 is one of the most culturally significant events of the week and significantly underpriced relative to its importance. The MLB Draft on July 11 is free and public -- the easiest way to extend the experience without added cost. Tickets at mlb.com. The 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia lands in a year when the city is at the center of America's attention for reasons larger than baseball. The Semiquincentennial context elevates a standard mid-season showcase into a celebration of the sport's place in American culture over 250 years of national history. Baseball was not always the national pastime in a metaphorical sense -- for a significant stretch of American history, it was the literal shared language. All-Star Week in 2026, in Philadelphia, with the nation watching, is a moment that belongs in that conversation. Full schedule and tickets at mlb.com/phillies/fans/all-star-game.

Los Angeles Summer International Open IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2026
In 10 days · Jul 11 – Jul 12 1201 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, C…

The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation believes the mat is a meritocracy — and this tournament is where that belief becomes observable. The IBJJF Los Angeles Summer International Open brings hundreds of competitors from across Southern California and beyond to the Los Angeles Convention Center for two days of sanctioned gi competition. Divisions span all belt levels, ages, and weight classes. On any given Saturday, the competitor who trained in a Fontana garage is rolling against someone from one of the most decorated academies in West Hollywood. The belt is the only credential that matters once the timer starts. Spectators enter free. There is no badge required, no pre-registration. You walk into South Hall J and find a mat. The room sounds like a gym — quiet focused intensity interrupted by the tap of a submission — and then the next match begins. If you have trained for any amount of time and want to understand what competitive BJJ looks like when it's taken seriously, this is the room that shows you. The competitors know exactly where they stand in their weight class. Everyone in the building knows exactly why they're there. Held July 11–12, 2026. Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall J, 1201 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90015. Free spectator admission. Athlete registration through IBJJF. Parking $30.

Little Tokyo Anime and Culture Night -- Los Angeles July 2026

Little Tokyo in downtown Los Angeles is the oldest Japanese American community in the country and on weekend evenings it functions as the unofficial gathering point for LA-area anime and Japanese culture fans. The stretch of 1st and 2nd Street between Central and Alameda runs izakayas, ramen shops, Anime Jungle with dedicated anime merchandise, Kinokuniya Books, and coffee shops where people sit for hours discussing shows. The monthly Anime and Culture Night draws the community that lives here year-round, not just the convention crowd that shows up twice a year. Street performers, pop-up cosplay groups, and informal meetups fill the sidewalks from early evening into the night. Browse Anime Jungle for figures, tapestries, and limited releases. Kinokuniya carries Japanese-language manga, artbooks, and music releases alongside English-language anime. The ramen spots fill up fast. Arriving by 6:30pm avoids the longest waits at Ichiran, Daikokuya, and Shin-Sen-Gumi. The Metro Gold Line stops at Little Tokyo/Arts District station. Street parking is available on surrounding blocks. No ticket or registration required. Monthly on the second Saturday.

The Anaheim Convention Center location puts it minutes from Disneyland and easily accessible from across Orange County, LA, and the Inland Empire. Anime Matsuri brings its signature mix of celebrity guests, industry panels, cosplay culture, and vendor hall energy to San Diego — and if the Houston original is any indication, the room temperature will be somewhere between charged and electric from the first hour. Anime Matsuri 2026 at the San Diego Convention Center delivers the experience that serious anime fans cross states for: exclusive premieres, voice actor Q&As, cosplay contests with real prize weight, and a dealer's room stacked with merchandise that doesn't exist on Amazon. What makes Matsuri feel different from other anime cons is the curation. The guests are not afterthoughts — they are the event. When a dub actor or a Japanese seiyuu takes the stage, the crowd in the room has been planning this moment for months. That energy is contagious in a way that convention descriptions always understate and convention attendees always overstate when they're describing it afterward. This is a convention for the person who knows exactly which character's voice they want to say hi to in a hallway. Panel rooms fill fast. Autograph lines form early. The cosplay competition on Saturday night draws competitors who have been working on their costumes since January. San Diego Convention Center, July 2026. California Extreme Pinball & Arcade Show 2026

You've been in rooms full of pinball machines before. Not like this. Every July, collectors and operators bring their machines to Santa Clara — not for display, not behind velvet rope — but set up on free play for the entire weekend. Five hundred of them. The 1970s electromechanical tables that require a different kind of patience. The golden-age arcade cabinets. The obscure things from the late eighties that haven't been in a room together since the mall they lived in closed down. You pay once to get in, and then you just play. This is California Extreme, July 17-19, 2026 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The people who go every year describe it the same way: they expected to spend an hour and stayed the whole weekend. The machines are part of it. The other people who showed up knowing exactly where they were going — those people are the rest of it. All-weekend pass recommended. You cannot see five hundred machines in a day. Advance tickets at caextreme.org. Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Pkwy, Santa Clara, CA.

At 9 AM on a Saturday in July, the Los Angeles Convention Center does something most buildings never do: it smells like a vault. Box wax, foam inserts, the faint rubber signature of deadstock soles that have not touched pavement. SneakerCon Los Angeles arrives July 18-19, 2026 — the West Coast anchor of the world's largest sneaker marketplace, and one of the few places where you can walk in with a list and walk out with most of it checked. Hundreds of vendor tables. Individual collectors beside established resale shops beside brand activations beside people who drove from out of state for this one weekend. A live authentication desk runs all day — verification before money changes hands, which is the only reason experienced collectors trust the floor. Limited drops get announced in the weeks before the event; the rumor cycle starts the moment tickets go on sale. The LA stop is one of SneakerCon's largest. Volume is real, inventory moves fast, and the authentication line gets long by noon. What is worth knowing: the early hours favor the hunters. The deals are on the tables before the crowds thin them. Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S Figueroa St. July 18-19, 2026. Doors open 9 AM both days. General admission from $67. Tickets at sneakercon.com.

Anime Impulse Bay Area 2026 — Santa Clara, CA
Jul 18 – Jul 19, 2026 Santa Clara Convention Center, 500…

One of Northern California's largest anime weekends lands at the Santa Clara Convention Center July 18–19 with a guest list built around the current season's most beloved creators. What it feels like: The floor hits different from SoCal conventions. Bay Area Anime Impulse draws a heavier NorCal contingent — tech workers who cosplay, university anime clubs that run their own programming, and a vendor hall that skews more independent than the LA circuit. The Artist Alley is legitimately excellent: Northern California has a deep well of independent creators whose work rarely reaches Southern California convention markets. If you collect original prints, this floor rewards the walk. Worth it? Who it's for: If you are the kind of person who treats convention season as a cultural pilgrimage — who plans the year around AX in July, SDCC in July, and fills weekends with smaller conventions that hit differently — Anime Impulse Bay Area is worth the drive or the flight. The production is professional, the crowd skews slightly older than Pomona (early-mid 20s median), and the July timing slots cleanly between AX and the August convention season. What to know before you go: Santa Clara Convention Center is BART-adjacent (Convention Center station, Orange Line) — meaningful if you're flying into SJC or coming from SF. Floor gets crowded Saturday afternoon around 1–3pm. The industry panels and local creator showcases are scheduled to avoid overlap with the main stage — the schedule is worth reading before you arrive. Parking is available but fills by 11am Saturday. Cosplay is everywhere; elaborate builds are the norm, not the exception, and the hallway costume game is legitimately competitive. The cultural moment: Anime Impulse has become the convention for Northern California's anime community in the way Anime Expo defines the Southern California circuit. It is not trying to be AX — it has built its own identity around community access and independent creator support. In a convention landscape dominated by corporate IP and celebrity guest announcements, Anime Impulse Bay Area is refreshingly about the people who actually build the culture. Local context worth knowing: San Jose and Santa Clara have a dense Japanese-American cultural community that shows up visibly in the Artist Alley and cosplay composition. Independent zine publishers, food vendors with Bay Area-specific flavor, and a significant South Asian otaku community add dimensions to the floor that you do not find at Southern California conventions. The Bay Area is not Los Angeles — the convention reflects that, and it is worth paying attention to.

WeTouchGrass San Diego Anime Rave 2026
Jul 18, 2026 San Diego, CA (venue TBA)

WeTouchGrass San Diego is part of Touch Grass Entertainment's growing SoCal anime nightlife circuit. This is not a watch party or a convention panel -- it is a club night built entirely around anime culture. DJ sets span J-pop, anime OSTs, city pop edits, and hyperpop. The crowd comes in cosplay and stays on the dance floor. Touch Grass Entertainment (#WeTouchGrass) has been building the anime rave format across multiple cities, and the San Diego edition is part of that expanding circuit. The format is consistent: 21+ venue, DJ sets from 9 PM to 2 AM, cosplay-friendly, community-forward. Venue and exact address will be announced via the Touch Grass Entertainment social channels closer to the date. Check touchgrassent.live for updates and advance ticket links. Capacity is limited and these events sell out. The anime rave circuit filling in SoCal nightlife is one of the most organic community formations in the region right now -- no corporate backing, no major label, just fans building the scene they want to exist. WeTouchGrass San Diego is your entry point.
