The Hayley Williams Show — with Magdalena Bay & Rico Nasty at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre
Oct 3, 2026 North Island Credit Union Amphithe…

She built Paramore from a garage in Franklin, Tennessee into one of the defining rock bands of a generation — and then she walked away to find out who she was without them. The Hayley Williams Show is not a Paramore concert and it's not trying to be. This is the solo tour that proves the voice was never the brand — the voice was always the instrument, and the instrument has spent the last five years learning new songs. With Magdalena Bay and Rico Nasty as openers, the bill is a deliberate collision of indie pop, experimental electronic, and hip-hop that only makes sense if you understand that Hayley Williams has never been interested in staying where you expected her. North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre is the right venue for this — big enough to feel like an event, open-air enough to feel like a conversation. October in Chula Vista means the heat has broken and the night air does half the work. Non-transferable tickets, resellable only at face value through the Ticketmaster Face Value Exchange. Saturday, October 3, 2026. Doors 6:00 PM. Show 7:00 PM. North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre, Chula Vista.

Deep Purple with Kansas and Jefferson Starship at North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre
Sep 8, 2026 North Island Credit Union Amphithe…

You were twelve when your dad handed you a pair of headphones and said listen to this. The organ riff from “Highway Star” came in like something had caught fire inside the speakers, and for about four minutes you understood why he still wore that faded tour shirt to mow the lawn. Deep Purple is bringing that sound — the one that invented heavy metal, invented the organ-guitar duel, invented the idea that a rock band could play with the ferocity of a symphony and the discipline of a jazz combo — to the amphitheatre in Chula Vista. Kansas opens, which means you’re getting “Carry On Wayward Son” under the September sky before the headliners take the stage. Jefferson Starship rounds out the lineup. Three bands. Three eras of American and British rock. One Tuesday night where you can hear the lineage played live by the people who wrote it. Ian Gillan at 81 still screams like he means it, and the band has been touring continuously since 1968. Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 6:15 PM. North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre, 2050 Entertainment Circle, Chula Vista, CA 91911.

Jack Johnson: SURFILMUSIC Tour 2026 — North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre
In 2 days · Oct 9 2050 Entertainment Cir, Chula Vist…

There’s a kind of music that belongs to a specific hour — the one where the sky is doing that thing it only does at the coast, and everything you were stressed about suddenly feels very far away. Jack Johnson has owned that hour for twenty years. The SURFILMUSIC Tour brings him to North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista on Friday, October 9, 2026, with Hermanos Gutiérrez opening, and if you’ve ever sat in those lawn seats as the sun drops behind the hills you already know this isn’t a concert — it’s the Southern California evening you describe to people who ask why you live here. Doors around 4 PM for parking, show at 7:30 PM. Tickets from $67.20 on Ticketmaster. Every ticket includes parking in the unpaved lots. North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre, 2050 Entertainment Cir, Chula Vista, CA 91911. Bring a blanket for the lawn. Leave the week behind.

GODSMACK — The Rise of Rock World Tour 2026 with Stone Temple Pilots and Dorothy
Sep 15, 2026 North Island Credit Union Amphithe…

Some albums saved your life at seventeen. The people who made them are still out there, still playing, and they are louder than you remember — which is either reassuring or alarming depending on how your week has gone. Three bands, three decades of hard rock, one amphitheatre under a September sky. Godsmack has moved twenty million records without ever sanding down the sound that got them there. Stone Temple Pilots, after the losses and the lineup changes and all the years, still play Dead and Bloated like the song owes them money. Dorothy brings a blues-soaked ferocity that bridges the two eras on either side of her. North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, with the local rock station putting its name on the night. Text this to whoever you used to scream along with in a parked car. Some of that is still in there, and it does not take much to wake it up.

Lyrical Exchange Open Mic — Queen Bee’s Art & Cultural Center, North Park
Every Tuesday · Next Oct 13 Queen Bee's Art & Cultural Center,…

Every Tuesday night in a North Park arts center, the mic goes live and the room fills with people who came to say something. Poets who have been carrying a verse in their pocket all week. Musicians who want to test a song on a crowd that actually listens. Comedians working out material that might be brilliant or might be a beautiful disaster. Nobody knows until the words leave their mouth. Lyrical Exchange is not a showcase — it is a conversation. The five-dollar cover keeps it intimate. The room at Queen Bee’s is small enough that you can feel the nervous energy of a first-timer three rows back, and the regulars treat newcomers like they belong because the whole point is that everyone does. The format rotates between spoken word, acoustic music, comedy, and whatever else walks through the door. This is the room where the city’s creative community shows up when they need to be heard, not applauded. Every Tuesday, 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM. Five dollars at the door. Queen Bee’s Art & Cultural Center, 3925 Ohio St in North Park.

San Marcos Harvest Fest 2026
In 4 days · Oct 11 Free North City, 251 N City Dr, San Mar…

First-year festivals have a quality nothing else does. Nobody is jaded yet, everyone is trying slightly too hard, and it shows in the best possible way. This one is North County deciding out loud that it is worth gathering for. The street closes through North City, the walkable village that grew up beside the university, and fills with local makers, food trucks, live music, and craft beer from the breweries that turned this stretch of the 78 into a destination. Families drift down the middle of a road they normally drive. The October light handles the rest. It is a hometown afternoon in a suburb still deciding what kind of place it wants to be. A Sunday in San Marcos, free to wander, with parking that is genuinely easy for once. Go hold up something scrappy in its first year. Bring a friend, get a beer, and be part of the reason it happens again.

Queen Bee's Open Mic Night — 1st & 3rd Thursdays
Every other Thursday · Next Oct 8 Queen Bee's Art & Cultural Center,…

The first time you stand in front of strangers with something you made, what you need is a room that will not punish you for it. This is that room. It is an arts center in North Park, not a bar that tolerates an open mic in the corner, and the difference shows up in the crowd: they came for the performers instead of the drink specials. Sign up before the show, take your five to seven minutes, then sit down and actually listen to everyone else. A singer-songwriter follows a stand-up who follows a slam poet. The quality swings wildly, which is the whole point. Some of the best sets of the night come from people who did not look like they were about to do anything remarkable. Ohio Street in North Park, first and third Thursdays, low or no cover, street parking around the block. Bring the friend with the notebook they never show anyone.

PB Night Market — Pacific Beach Thursday Night Market
Every Thursday · Next Oct 8 Bayard St & Garnet Ave, Pacific Be…

The sun dropped behind the Pacific ten minutes ago and the salt air is still warm. Fire pits are already lit at the corner of Bayard and Garnet, and somewhere between the dumpling stand and the taco truck a guitarist is playing something that makes you walk slower than you meant to. PB Night Market is Pacific Beach's Thursday night ritual — a curated weekly market running 5 to 9:30 PM with nine to twelve rotating food vendors, live music, lawn games, and the kind of firepit seating that turns strangers into conversationalists. Curator Jay Michaels launched it in February 2026 and intentionally chose Thursday to fill the gap between the Tuesday PB Farmers Market and the Wednesday OB Farmers Market. The result is the night Pacific Beach exhales into the weekend a day early. Vendors rotate weekly, which means regulars come back to discover what changed. The crowd is beach-local plus the occasional rideshare from North Park. The vibe is backyard party energy with better food and no cleanup. One hundred fifty steps from the ocean — close enough to hear it if the music pauses. Every Thursday, 5 to 9:30 PM. Corner of Bayard and Garnet in Pacific Beach.

Juanes — North America Tour 2026 at Petco Park San Diego
Oct 22, 2026 Petco Park, 100 Park Blvd, San Die…

When Juanes plays A Dios Le Pido in a stadium full of people who grew up hearing it in their parents' car, something happens that transcends a concert. It becomes a room where two generations share the same feeling at the same moment, and neither one needs to explain it to the other. Juanes brings his North America Tour 2026 to Petco Park in San Diego on Thursday, October 22 at 8 PM. A stadium show at Petco means the full production — the kind of scale that lets a performer who already commands attention from the first note fill every corner of a ballpark designed to hold 40,000 people. Juanes has been the bridge between Colombian rock and the global Latin music stage for over two decades, and a Petco Park date signals that his draw in San Diego doesn't need a smaller room. Petco Park is in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter at 100 Park Blvd, with direct trolley access from the 12th and Imperial station. Pre-show dinner in the Gaslamp is a tradition for Petco concerts — the neighborhood comes alive on event nights. Two decades of music and a stadium that knows how to hold a crowd. The Gaslamp after dark is part of the show.

Rocky Horror Picture Show — Live with Patricia Quinn at Balboa Theatre, San Diego
In 4 days · Oct 11 Balboa Theatre, 868 4th Ave, San D…

Thirty newspaper bags. Six water guns. A roll of toilet paper you will throw at the exact right moment. And Patricia Quinn — Magenta herself — standing on the Balboa Theatre stage in the flesh. The Rocky Horror Picture Show screening is one of those events that exists in its own category. It's not a movie. It's not a concert. It's a participatory ritual that's been running for half a century and shows no sign of slowing down, because every generation discovers it at exactly the right age and never fully recovers. The Balboa Theatre showing features the original cast member Patricia Quinn live and in person, making this more than a screening — it's a pilgrimage. Costumes are encouraged. Props are required. The callback lines are non-negotiable. If you don't know them yet, the person sitting next to you will teach you before the opening credits end. Sunday, October 11, 2026. 7:00 PM. Balboa Theatre, San Diego. Shadowcast troupes run this all over the county on nights nobody advertises, and once you know the callbacks you start looking for them.

Escondido Grand Avenue Festival — October 2026
In 11 days · Oct 18 Grand Avenue, 200 E Grand Ave, Esc…

Six lanes of asphalt run straight through downtown, and twice a year the city simply takes them back. They close the road, line both sides with tents and stages and food stalls, and for one day Grand Avenue belongs to the people who actually live around it. More than a hundred vendors sell handcrafted goods, imports, and food from a dozen directions, professional live music fills several stages, and a beer and wine garden anchors the middle of the whole thing. This is not a farmers market with ambitions. It has been running for over thirty years. Escondido surprises people who never bothered to come: the arts center is here, the breweries cluster along the main drag, Cruisin Grand fills the street on summer Fridays. But you have not seen what this city looks like when it decides to show up until you have walked Grand on festival day, when the tamale vendor is set up beside a jeweler from Carlsbad and the Fleetwood Mac cover band turns out to be genuinely good. Bring the friend who insists nothing ever happens in North County.

Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter at SOMA — San Diego
In 9 days · Oct 16 SOMA San Diego, 3350 Sports Arena …

Steve Jones is standing ten feet away from you playing the riff that started everything. The Sex Pistols — original members Jones, Paul Cook, and Glen Matlock — return with Frank Carter on vocals for a North American tour that stops at SOMA on October 16. Carter, the ferocious frontman of Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and ex-Gallows, brings the dangerous energy that this music was built on. Support from LA's Militarie Gun, whose post-hardcore sets have been tearing through SoCal basements for years. This is not nostalgia. This is the band that detonated the blueprint for every punk show that followed, playing a room small enough that you can see the sweat. SOMA's concrete floor and low ceiling were built for exactly this volume. The people in this room are not here because they read about punk in a textbook. They are here because the first time they heard 'Anarchy in the U.K.' something clicked and never unclicked. Doors 7 PM. Show 8 PM. Tickets from $114 via Ticketmaster. All ages.

Yuki Chiba — First North American Headline Tour at Music Box San Diego
Nov 3, 2026 Music Box, 1337 India St, San Dieg…

Somewhere between city pop and shoegaze there is a room that only opens at night, and Yuki Chiba holds the key. The Japanese singer-songwriter's voice sits in the same frequency as streetlights reflecting off wet pavement — warm, a little blurred, impossible to ignore once you've noticed it. This is his first headline tour in North America, which means the room will be full of people who discovered him through playlists that autoplay at 2 AM, through anime-adjacent OSTs that hit harder than the show itself, through a friend's story that just said 'trust me.' The Music Box in Little Italy is small enough that you'll feel the bass in your chest and see the setlist taped to the monitor. This is the kind of show where the crowd is half the experience — everyone there found him the same way you did, and nobody can explain why it feels this personal. Tickets are twenty-five dollars advance, thirty at the door. Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · 8 PM · Music Box in Little Italy · 1337 India St · $25 adv / $30 door

In 6 days · Oct 13 Belly Up Tavern, 143 S Cedros Ave,…

Certain bands sound like the third hour of a night that was supposed to end two hours ago, and this is the defining example. The records swing between tender and completely unhinged, sometimes inside one song, and live that ratio is decided in the moment rather than in advance. John McCauley's voice is a genuinely damaged instrument — shredded in a way that makes the sweet songs land harder because you can hear what it costs him to sing them quietly. There is no setlist discipline to speak of. People who have seen them four times have seen four different bands. A Tuesday out in North County. Doors at seven, music at eight. October 13, Belly Up Tavern, 143 S Cedros Ave. Bring the friend you have had a genuinely bad night with and stayed friends after. The bands that trade on that specific ragged warmth almost always play out here rather than downtown, for reasons nobody has ever adequately explained.

Wuthering Waves Concert Tour: To the New World

Loving a game nobody around you plays is a specific kind of lonely. You have four hundred hours in it, you know the soundtrack better than most albums you own, and the people who would understand are all on a Discord server in other time zones. Then a tour announces a North American stop and the server becomes a group of people you can actually stand next to. This is that night. The score for this game is genuinely orchestral - recorded with real ensembles, not a synth patch pretending - and hearing it played live in a two-thousand-seat theater is the closest the medium gets to a symphony hall treating it seriously. Cosplay will be everywhere and nobody will find it remarkable. If you have somebody in your life who has tried to explain this game to you and given up, this is the night to just go with them. This is the North American debut of the tour, which has otherwise only played Asia. Doors well before the eight o'clock downbeat on Saturday the 17th.

A DJ set from a label founder is usually a courtesy booking, and this is the exception — the man has spent thirty years buying records with an obsessiveness that borders on illness, and the sets are audio-visual, mixing video with the music in a way almost nobody else does live. He started the label in 1996 after his creative partner was killed, and everything since has been built on refusing to let that end quietly. The afternoon slot is deliberate; it makes this the daytime centerpiece of a three-night anniversary rather than a club night. Expect deep catalog, expect records you will spend a week trying to identify. Highland Park's upstairs Masonic hall, wood floors, balcony. Doors and music from 2:00 PM at 104 N Avenue 56, a Saturday. The people who come to all three nights of this treat it as a reunion, and by the second afternoon they have found each other.

Hostile: The Resistance - Shadowcell, Chibs, Badklaat, Oolacile
In 9 days · Oct 16 – Oct 17 The Vermont Hollywood, 1020 N Verm…

There is a specific frequency, somewhere below what a phone speaker can reproduce, that you feel in your chest rather than hear. Bass music exists entirely to find it, and everything above that frequency is basically decoration. That is why this scene cares about rooms the way audiophiles care about equipment. Badklaat and Oolacile work the heavier, more chaotic end of dubstep — sound design that behaves more like industrial machinery than music — and a bill this deep is a promoter making a statement rather than filling a night. The Vermont holds a real crowd and has the rig to justify the booking. Bills like this are built by promoters who came up inside the scene rather than by a talent buyer filling a Friday, which is why the running order rewards arriving early instead of turning up for the headliner. Nine at night on Friday the sixteenth of October, up on North Vermont Avenue.

Plini - An Unnameable Desire North American Tour
Nov 7, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

Instrumental music has to earn every single minute, because nobody is being carried along by a chorus or a story — and the crowd for this is unusually clear-eyed about that, which makes them a demanding audience and a generous one at once. Plini writes long-form guitar music that resolves rather than sprawls, warm where the genre is usually cold, and the online community that grew around it is one of the last genuinely nerdy corners of guitar culture: people posting tab, arguing about tone, learning the parts. A meaningful fraction of any room on this tour can play what is happening on stage, which changes the atmosphere entirely. Watch the front rows during the difficult passages. Music at 7:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. This is a Saturday, and the players who come to it tend to travel in groups from whatever guitar forum or Discord raised them.

Costumes are easier when the reference is one only about four hundred people will catch. No explaining, no polite nodding from someone who thinks you are a generic vampire — just the one person across the room who sees it, points, and makes a noise. That is the whole appeal of a small themed room in October, and it is why this one has a narrow door on purpose: it is built around the Dark Moon story and the two groups tied to it, so everyone walking in already shares the reference before a word is said. Cupsleeves, vendor goodies, raffles with real prizes, themed activities, community merch, costumes encouraged. It runs Saturday, October 17, 1 to 6 PM at bobaTEAque on North Tustin in Orange. Worth knowing there is a second cupsleeve at this same shop the week before, which tells you the place has essentially become the county's fandom living room. Whoever you know who has been quietly assembling a costume nobody at work will understand — this is the room where they will be understood.

Gary Clark Jr. at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay — Night 2
Oct 28, 2026 2241 Shelter Island Dr, San Diego,…

The second night of Gary Clark Jr. at Humphreys is what happens when a guitarist who already knows the room comes back with the muscle memory of the first show and the freedom to stretch. Clark's setlists shift between nights — more blues deep cuts on one, more of the Grammy-winning rock anthems on the other — and the standing-room-only format means the crowd is close enough to hear the amplifier hum between songs. Night two of a residency is historically where the magic happens, because the performer is no longer introducing themselves to the venue. They are just playing, leaning into the moments that surprised them on night one and building new ones that the crowd on Monday did not get. The Shelter Island marina reflects the stage lights, and the October air on the harbor carries the bass notes into Point Loma. Tuesday, October 28. Doors at 6:30 PM, show at 7:30 PM.

Gary Clark Jr. at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay — Night 1
Oct 27, 2026 2241 Shelter Island Dr, San Diego,…

Gary Clark Jr. plays guitar the way a thunderstorm rolls across a Texas plain — slow at first, building, inevitable, and by the time it fully arrives you have forgotten that you were ever dry. The two-night stand at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay puts one of the most important guitarists of his generation in a room that was designed for exactly this: close quarters, harbor acoustics, and a crowd that came to listen, not to be seen. The phone-free Yondr pouch policy means the room is full of people watching instead of filming, which is the only way to experience a performer whose gift is making you forget anything exists outside the notes. General Admission, standing room only. Humphreys is a cashless venue, and the marina setting on Shelter Island makes the walk in feel like part of the show. Monday, October 27. Doors at 6:30 PM, show at 7:30 PM.

A band locks into a groove so deep the crowd forgets they have phones in their hands. When the guitar line and the synth weave into something that wasn't rehearsed, something that will never happen again, and five thousand people hold their breath at once because they know it? Goose brings that moment to San Diego. The Connecticut five-piece has spent a decade building a reputation as one of the most inventive live acts in American music — a band whose setlists are never the same twice, whose jams stretch and mutate and land in places that make the recording feel like a rough draft of the real thing. Their latest album, Chain Your Dragon, gave them the songs. The stage is where they give those songs permission to become something else entirely. Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU holds about 4,600 under the stars. Doors at 6 PM. The first note drops at 7. If you've seen them before, you already have your ticket. If you haven't — this is the kind of show where people drive from three cities away and call it a short trip. Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU, 5500 Campanile Dr, San Diego, CA 92182. Thursday, August 13, 2026. Doors 6 PM, show 7 PM. Tickets from $72 via AXS.

The bill that nobody outside the city has heard of is usually the one worth going to. Touring headliners are a known quantity; a local lineup on a Saturday afternoon is a bet on a scene, and the people in the crowd are mostly the ones building it. San Diego's bass and downtempo scene has spent years being overshadowed by Los Angeles two hours north, which has had the useful side effect of keeping it unpretentious. Know Good and Blookah work the slower, weirder end — trap tempos slowed down, a lot of space in the arrangements, the sort of thing that works far better outdoors in late afternoon light than it ever does at 2 AM in a dark room. The shipping-container yard downtown is the right venue for exactly this: open-air, concrete, a bar in a converted container, and no pretense whatsoever. Gates at four on Saturday the seventeenth; the light goes gold around six and that is the part to be there for.

Fall Back Festival — Gaslamp Quarter Historical Street Faire 2026
Nov 8, 2026 Davis-Horton House, 410 Island Ave…

It is not a Renaissance fair and it is not a reenactment. It is a city remembering that before the rooftop bars and the convention hotels, this was a frontier town where everything was possible and most of it was inadvisable. The block around the Davis-Horton House fills up with contests, dance troupes, live music, food, and historical activities built on the theory that kids learn best when nobody uses the word learning. A nine-year-old tries panning for gold. A fourteen-year-old pretends not to enjoy the Civil War-era music right up until they do. Somebody in period costume explains how the house survived both a fire and a real estate collapse, which is a very San Diego pair of disasters. Thousands of families make this a fixed point in the year. Free, all ages, in the Gaslamp. Take a kid who thinks history is a textbook. Let them throw a bean bag at a tin can instead.

Muertos Fest 2026 at Hemisfair — San Antonio, TX
Oct 23, 2026 Hemisfair, 434 S Alamo St, San Ant…

In San Antonio, the dead do not stay quiet. They come back every October, invited by marigolds and mezcal and ninety handmade altars that fill Hemisfair with the kind of color that makes you forget what century you are in. Muertos Fest is the largest Day of the Dead celebration in the nation, and it does not feel like a festival — it feels like a family reunion where the guest list includes people who are no longer alive. Over three days, the park transforms into a living altar: two separate processions wind through streets lined with papel picado, four stages carry live music from cumbia to corridos, and the Muertos Mercado sells folk art from artisans who learned their craft from the same people honored on the altars. Friday night opens with Presente, an evening of quiet altar viewing with sensory-friendly hours from five to seven — the softest entry point imaginable. This is not tourism. This is a city that has celebrated its dead openly for longer than most American cities have existed. San Antonio's Dia de los Muertos tradition is not borrowed or curated — it is inherited, and Muertos Fest is the room where that inheritance goes public. The processions are not performances — they are prayers in motion, and the crowd joins them naturally because the boundary between audience and participant was never drawn. The altars are not decoration — each one is a conversation with someone who is gone, built by someone who is not ready to stop talking. When the sun goes down on Saturday night and the music is playing across four stages and the marigold petals are everywhere and the faces in the crowd are painted like skulls but laughing — that is when you understand why this is the largest celebration of its kind in the country. It earned that distinction not by being the biggest, but by being the most real. October 23-25, 2026. Hemisfair, 434 S Alamo St, San Antonio, TX 78205. Free admission, all ages.

My Chemical Romance at the Hollywood Bowl -- October 2026
In 14 days · Oct 21 Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N Highland Av…

For a generation that grew up screaming along to Welcome to the Black Parade in bedrooms plastered with band posters, My Chemical Romance at the Hollywood Bowl on October 21 is not just a concert -- it is a summoning. The Bowl's open-air acoustics and the October night sky turn every anthem into something larger than it was on the record, and the crowd will sing louder than the PA system at least twice. MCR's catalog runs from the raw punk fury of I Brought You My Bullets to the theatrical grandeur of The Black Parade to the synth-soaked Danger Days, and a setlist at the Bowl will pull from all of it. The band has been selective about touring since their reunion, making every announced date feel like it might be the last one for a while. Two nights at the Bowl -- different setlists each -- and both will leave you hoarse. The Bowl sits at 2301 N Highland Avenue, just off the 101 in the Hollywood Hills.

The California derby has quickly become one of the NWSL's fixtures worth traveling for, and Angel City hosting Bay FC on Fan Appreciation Night is northern-versus-southern-California soccer at its most charged. Bay FC, the Bay Area's ambitious 2024 expansion club, has turned the LA-versus-NorCal fixture into an instant rivalry, and late October means the playoff race is real and the stakes are high. BMO Stadium (pink smoke rolling over Exposition Park, the supporters' end in full voice) becomes the loudest it gets all year. Saturday, October 24, 2026, BMO Stadium, Los Angeles, an easy Metro E Line ride from downtown. Come for the fan giveaways and the pregame thank-you, stay for a state rivalry with postseason implications, and be part of the Angel City crowd that has made LA one of the essential stops on the women's soccer map.

Monarch Butterfly Grove — Pismo Beach 2026
Oct 31 – Feb 28, 2027 Monarch Grove Sanctuary, 101 Pismo…

From a distance they look like dead brown leaves hanging in the eucalyptus — and then you focus, and realize the entire cluster is alive, hundreds of thousands of monarch butterflies packed onto the branches. When the afternoon warms, the clusters open and the grove fills with orange-and-black wings and the soft sound of flight. It is the kind of thing you have to stand inside to believe. From late October through February, the Monarch Grove Sanctuary at Pismo State Beach hosts one of the largest overwintering monarch aggregations in North America, peaking mid-November through early January. The monarchs travel from across western North America to overwinter on the California coast, where mild temperatures and eucalyptus groves give them the specific conditions they need to survive the winter. Pismo is the most reliable and accessible of California's overwintering sites, with a dedicated sanctuary, docent volunteers who explain the biology and conservation context, and viewing platforms that let you get close without disturbing the clusters. Early-morning visits find them tightly packed and still; afternoons bring the movement. Send it to the friend who needs a reason to drive up the coast. The sanctuary is within Pismo State Beach at 101 Pismo Ave in Pismo Beach, roughly 200 miles north of Los Angeles via US-101. Docent tours run daily during the season, typically 10 AM–4 PM. No admission charge; a day-use fee applies for parking in the state beach lot. Peak season is November through January, and the grove can be crowded on weekends during peak migration.

Portland Book Festival 2026 — Portland, OR
Every day · Next Nov 2 1219 SW Park Ave, Portland, OR 972…

Portland doesn't have a literary scene. Portland is a literary scene — a city where the world's largest independent bookstore employs more people than some towns, where poets perform to sold-out rooms, where the kid at the coffee shop is reading Borges without irony. The Portland Book Festival is the annual proof, and in 2026 it expands for the first time into a full week: November 2 through 8, stretching across the South Park Blocks, the Portland Art Museum, McMenamins Mission Theater, Mississippi Studios, and Lan Su Chinese Garden. The main gathering on November 7 fills the South Park Blocks with more than 100 local, regional, and nationally acclaimed authors — readings, panels, pop-up writing workshops, a massive book fair, and, because this is Portland, food trucks parked on every corner. But the real expansion is in the surrounding days: evening events at music venues and restaurants, cross-disciplinary programming that pairs authors with live music and visual art, culinary experiences built around books about food, and late-night programming that turns what used to be a single-day book fair into a cultural festival with literature at its center. If you're the kind of person who keeps a running list of books you want to read that's longer than any list of books you've actually finished — who gets unreasonably excited when a favorite author announces a new title, who has talked about starting a novel but never quite has — this is the week where your people gather. The Oregon Symphony and Mississippi Studios provide the soundtrack. Lan Su Chinese Garden provides the setting for conversations that feel like they're happening in a novel rather than at a festival. The South Park Blocks provide the November air that makes holding a warm cup of coffee while carrying three new books feel like the only correct way to spend a Saturday. What to know before you go: Portland in November is gray, wet, and beautiful. Bring a rain jacket and a tote bag large enough for impulse buys at the book fair. Powell's City of Books is a fifteen-minute walk from the main festival grounds and is the obvious pre- or post-festival pilgrimage. Events range from free to ticketed. Full schedule at literary-arts.org. The Portland Book Festival is the Pacific Northwest's largest literary event, and its expansion to a full week is itself a statement: that books are not a niche interest but a way of moving through the world, and that the people who organize their lives around words deserve more than an afternoon.

Lord Of The Rave
Oct 31, 2026 Queen Bee's Art & Cultural Center,…

Halloween in San Diego is mostly bars charging a cover to watch people in store-bought costumes ignore each other. The alternative, if you know where it is, is a converted art center in North Park where the costumes are the point and the bass is loud enough to feel behind your sternum. Queen Bee's is a community arts building the rest of the year, which changes what this feels like. It is not a club with a Halloween theme bolted on; it is a room that normally hosts poetry nights and dance classes, cleared out and turned over to heavy bass for one night. Low ceilings and a wood floor do something to sub-bass that a purpose-built club specifically tries to prevent. The lineup runs across dubstep, trap, house and techno rather than staying in one lane, so the floor turns over every hour. Nine PM to two AM. October 31 at Queen Bee's Art & Cultural Center, 3925 Ohio Street. If your group has spent three weeks failing to agree on Halloween plans, put this in the chat and let it settle the argument.

Dec 13, 2026 The Casbah, 2501 Kettner Blvd, San…

December Sundays are the dead zone of the live music calendar. The year is winding down, everyone is broke from presents, and the bands that play anyway are doing it for the people who would show up regardless. That is the correct condition for a small room. There is no industry in the audience in the second week of December, no one taking meetings, nobody there to be seen — just a couple hundred people who would rather be in a dark room on Kettner than at another holiday party pretending to enjoy a white elephant exchange. The Casbah has been the constant in San Diego music for over thirty years, the room where nearly every band this city produced played early and badly before they got good. A Sunday night bill there is the venue doing what it has always done. Doors at half seven on Sunday the thirteenth of December, music at half eight.

Monsta X Nexus in LA - Post-Concert Cupsleeve Event
Nov 1, 2026 bobaTEAque, 1960 N Tustin St, Oran…

The worst part of a concert is the parking lot afterward. Everyone scatters, the ringing in your ears starts to fade, and the thing you just lived through begins converting into a memory you will mostly carry alone. The next morning is worse. Somebody in Orange figured out the obvious fix and booked the day after: a boba shop, noon to five, full of people who were in that same building and want to go through it out loud, minute by minute, arguing about the setlist and which song broke the room. Fan vendor booths along the wall, giveaways, and no requirement that you bought a ticket to anything — walk-ins are welcome, which quietly means the people who could not go are invited to hear about it from the people who did. That is a generous way to run a room. Sunday, November 1, bobaTEAque on North Tustin. If you went, you already know who you need to sit across from.

She shaved her head at the Latin Grammys and wrote protest on her chest. You either understood immediately or you looked it up afterward. Either way, you never forgot — because the act itself was the message, and the music that followed proved she meant every word. Mon Laferte brings the Femme Fatale Tour to the Kia Forum for two nights, November 7–8, and this is the artist who moves between ranchera, pop, cumbia, and rock like they were all the same language spoken with different accents. The voice is enormous. The presence is unapologetic. The show is a transformation — not a concert, a communion between an artist and an audience that chose her for exactly who she is. November 7. Show at 8 PM. Two nights because one isn't enough for what Los Angeles feels about this woman. Tickets on Ticketmaster. Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival 2026 — Los Angeles, CA
Nov 16 – Nov 18, 2026 200 Dodger Stadium, 1000 Vin Scully Av…

Tyler the Creator builds his festival the way he makes his albums — as a complete vision, not a lineup. The 2026 edition runs November 16–17 at Dodger Stadium: Tyler himself, Andre 3000, Erykah Badu, Playboi Carti, Earl Sweatshirt, Vince Staples, Daniel Caesar. Sixty thousand people. This is his current read on what matters. Flog Gnaw feels nothing like a conventional music festival. Tyler's aesthetic — Golf Wang colors, surrealist visual direction, Converse collabs, the cartoon universe he's been building since Odd Future — pervades every inch of the grounds. The headliner list reads like Tyler's personal taste index rather than a booking agency's safe plays: Andre 3000's rare public appearances, Earl Sweatshirt's deliberately sparse touring schedule, legacy artists like Erykah Badu alongside younger voices. The surprise guest tradition is genuine — in past years unannounced performers have drawn more conversation than the headliners. The crowd skews young, fashion-conscious, and culturally literate in a way that is self-selecting. Flog Gnaw is the festival where people bring cameras for the fits, not just the performances. This is for people whose music listening doesn't fit a single genre label — who have Tyler the Creator, Badu, Earl, and Daniel Caesar on the same playlist and see nothing contradictory about that. It is for the aesthetically curious. It is not for people who want clear setlist times, grid-pattern stages, and predictable headliner slots. Tyler runs his festival on his own logic, and that's the point. If that energy resonates, Camp Flog Gnaw is one of the few festivals where the curation is unambiguously the product. Two-day passes sell significantly faster than single-day. The Dodger Stadium location is accessible by Metro (Dodger Stadium Express from Union Station — skip the parking). Merchandise drops at Flog Gnaw are serious and sell out quickly; the Golf Wang collabs available only at the festival have become collector items. Arrive early day one — the grounds have carnival rides, food, and art installations that reward exploration before the headliners. Andre 3000's live appearances remain rare enough to justify the trip from anywhere in the country. Tyler the Creator built a world — Golf Wang, Odd Future, Igor, Call Me If You Get Lost, Cherry Bomb — and Flog Gnaw is where that world becomes a place you can stand in for two days. The music industry produces thousands of festivals. Very few of them feel like they could only exist because one specific person willed them into being. Flog Gnaw is one of them. Tickets at Ticketmaster. November 16-17, 2026, Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles.

Catalina Island Avalon Triathlon 2026
Sep 19, 2026 Avalon, Catalina Island, CA 90704

The road you're pedaling has no cars on it, no exhaust, no honking - just the Pacific on one side and the hillside terrain of Catalina on the other, because the island's roads are closed to traffic. There is nowhere else in Southern California you can race like this. The Catalina Island Triathlon opens with an ocean swim in the clear water of Avalon Bay, moves to a bike leg through the coastal hills, and finishes with a run along Avalon's waterfront promenade. Sprint and Olympic distances suit different experience levels. Everyone travels over via Catalina Express ferry from Long Beach or San Pedro - the crossing and the island are part of the experience. Athletes who come the day before and stay overnight in Avalon get the full version: dinner in the casino district, a morning race, and a post-race celebration on the waterfront. Spectators can cheer from the Avalon waterfront without going anywhere near the course; the swim and run finishes are visible from the beachfront. Check catalinaislandtriathlon.com for registration, ferry logistics, and the race-day schedule.

Darker Waves 2026 — Huntington Beach
Nov 14, 2026 Huntington State Beach, Pacific Co…

Some lineups read like a playlist. This one reads like a reunion for everybody who grew up wearing black in the California sun — the kids who found Bad Religion in a borrowed van, who got Morrissey off an older sibling's cassette, who fell into the Smashing Pumpkins during a summer that rearranged them. Morrissey and the Pumpkins headline, but the undercard is where the real reunions happen: Simple Minds, Bad Religion, Adam Ant, The Psychedelic Furs, Soft Cell, The Damned, Gary Numan, Buzzcocks, Circle Jerks, Marky Ramone — over thirty-five artists across three oceanfront stages, the entire width of post-punk, darkwave, goth, new wave, and hardcore punk in a single day, treated correctly as one family that has always been in conversation. The beach faces west, so by the time the headliners go on, the Pacific is doing the gold-then-purple thing. Sand for a venue floor. November air cool enough for the jacket you have been saving. Wear it. Go find your people on that sand.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving, six blocks of Historic Highway 101 in Encinitas close to traffic and fill with the unofficial kickoff to North County's holiday season. The Encinitas Holiday Street Fair has run for nearly forty years: hundreds of booths of handmade crafts, art, antiques, and ethnic imports, two stages of live music, street food and sweets, a beer-and-wine garden, and a family fun zone — all of it two blocks from the ocean with the coast breeze rolling through. It's a stroll-and-shop kind of day, the one where locals knock out holiday gifts from real makers instead of a mall, then grab a churro and catch a band. Admission and parking are free; come early for the good vendor finds and street parking. The Encinitas Holiday Street Fair runs Sunday, November 22, 2026, along South Coast Highway 101 in downtown Encinitas. Free admission. By dusk the string lights come on over Highway 101 and the whole town feels like it finally exhaled into the holidays.

Close enough to see the sweat, loud enough to feel it land in your ribs, and that has always been the entire promise of this room. Nineteen hundred capacity is the size nobody builds for anymore: big enough that touring bands worth seeing route through it, small enough that the person on stage can tell you are not looking at your phone. Regulars know the balcony is the play, and they know it fills with people who showed up early and planned it that way. The fall season is where the calendar gets interesting. A lo-fi evening with Kitty Craft and Friends
Nov 22, 2026 Lodge Room, 104 N Avenue 56, Los A…

Sampling nineteen-sixties pop records into something that sounds like a half-remembered childhood was being done in a bedroom in Los Angeles years before anybody had a name for it, and the person doing it has never particularly cared about being credited for that. Pamela Valfer's records came out on small labels at the turn of the century, went out of print, and were rediscovered by a generation that found them through the same internet channels that made the whole aesthetic ubiquitous. An evening framed this way — with friends, informal, in a room this size — is closer to a listening party among people who care than to a concert. Highland Park's upstairs Masonic hall, wood floors, a Sunday night in November. Music at 8:00 PM at 104 N Avenue 56. Nights built around a scene rather than a headliner are where you find out how many people around you have been quietly keeping something alive.

Thanksgiving week has a hole in it that nobody admits to. The meal ends early, the relatives go to bed at nine, and you are twenty-six years old standing in your childhood kitchen with a full night ahead of you and nothing to do with it. Everyone you went to high school with is also in town and also bored. A warehouse-scale room on Pico has been solving that deliberately. Catch One has been one of the most important dance floors in Los Angeles for decades, and a Thanksgiving-week party there runs on a very specific crowd: people home for the holiday, people who never left, and regulars who treat the week as a reunion they did not have to organize. House and techno, doors at six, early enough that you can genuinely do both. Going early is the move. The first two hours are when the room is loose and you can hear the person next to you. November 25 at Catch One, 4067 Pico Boulevard. If someone you love is flying home that week and dreading the downtime, this is the text to send.

The thing nobody warns you about is how committed the costumes get. This is not a novelty-headband crowd. People arrive painted green. There are full Lord Farquaads. And because the premise is unserious, everyone is unusually kind — the social anxiety that governs a normal club floor cannot survive a room where the funniest outfit wins. Musically it is throwback anthems and singalongs rather than anything challenging, which is the correct call. Photo ops run all night, costumes are expected, and it goes ten PM to two AM. Friday December 4 at Boardner's by La Belle on North Cherokee, presented by Club Decades. Tickets through club-decades.com. You already thought of the one friend who would lose their mind at this.

Hostile: Benda B2B Vastive
Nov 27, 2026 The Vermont, 1020 N Vermont Ave, L…

Back-to-back sets are the only format in electronic music that is genuinely unrepeatable. Two people trading records in real time, each trying to answer what the other just did, means the night cannot be rehearsed and has never happened before and will not happen again in that order. When it goes well the crowd can hear the argument. Hostile runs bass nights at a small East Hollywood room and has built a reputation on booking exactly this — pairings rather than headliners. Putting Benda and Vastive on one deck for a long stretch is a deliberate choice about texture; both work the heavier, more mechanical end of dubstep, so rather than contrast you get escalation. The room is the other half of it. The Vermont holds a couple hundred people, which for bass music is the correct number — sub frequencies in a large hall dissipate, and in a small one they are structural. You feel the set in your ribs rather than hear it. Nine PM to two AM on Friday November 27, the night after Thanksgiving, which is historically the best-attended and worst-organized night of anyone's year. This one is organized. The Vermont, 1020 North Vermont Avenue.

Lorcana North American Championship 2026 — Disneyland
Aug 28 – Aug 30, 2026 Registration required; free spectate 1313 Disneyland Dr, Anaheim, CA 92…

Every deck you have built since this game launched was assembled out of characters you met before you could read. That is the sincere, slightly absurd thing about this tournament — a continent's best players settle a season of grinding ink combinations a few hundred feet from the castle that started all of it. Ravensburger and Disney co-host. The prize pool runs past thirteen thousand dollars and the field qualified from every corner of North America, with San Diego's local rounds among the roads in. The part people underrate: side events run all three days, so you can be in the room, in a bracket, part of it, without ever punching a ticket through the circuit. Winning here feels like it means something because the whole place is engineered to make things feel like they mean something. Three days on Disneyland Resort ground in Anaheim. Free to spectate during open rounds, and side-event space goes fast. Bring the friend who still defends their very first deck.

Route 66 Cruisin' Reunion 2026 — Ontario, CA
Sep 18, 2026 Euclid Avenue, Ontario, CA 91762

A car is never just a car at this show. It is a garage a father built, a trip a husband always said he would take and never did, a paint job that took longer than most relationships. People bring the machine and then stand beside it all day telling that story to strangers, and the telling is the actual event. A thousand classics fill twenty-two blocks of Euclid Avenue, the boulevard that carried everybody's westward dream down the Mother Road, and this year the highway itself turns a hundred. Woodies that smell like salt water and old wax. Muscle cars that move the asphalt when they roll past. Live music, a Ferris wheel over the kids' zone, food the whole length of it. Two days in Ontario, right on the old corridor, free to walk in and free to park. Go with the person who taught you what to listen for in an engine.

THE KEHLANI WORLD TOUR: North America — Viejas Arena San Diego
Sep 23, 2026 Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl, 5500 C…

The voice that made you cry in your car at 2 AM is about to make six thousand people cry standing up. Kehlani brings the World Tour to Viejas Arena at San Diego State University on September 23, 2026, continuing a North American run that has turned the Oakland-born R&B singer into one of the most in-demand live performers in the genre. Kehlani's catalog lives in the space between vulnerability and defiance — songs about love that sound like they already know how the story ends but refuse to skip to the last page. The Viejas Arena show starts at 6:30 PM, with Kehlani partnering with PLUS1 so that one dollar from every ticket sold goes to The Kehlani Fund by Live Nation. The venue sits on the SDSU campus at 5500 Canyon Crest Drive, holding roughly 12,000 for concerts in a setting that puts college-town energy inside arena scale. This is not background music. This is the room where every lyric gets sung back louder than it was delivered.

Mini Trees, Illuminati Hotties, Baths
Dec 18, 2026 Pappy & Harriet's, 53688 Pioneerto…

Three Los Angeles projects on one bill in the desert reads like a coincidence and is closer to a family reunion — these are people who have played on each other's records, share producers, and came up through the same small rooms in the eastside. Illuminati Hotties makes the loudest and funniest music of the three; Baths has been making meticulous electronic pop since the blog era and has a following that treats those records as private property; Mini Trees writes the quiet ones. Together it is a fair snapshot of what one corner of this city actually sounds like right now. Watching that travel two hours into the high desert and land in a wooden saloon is the specific pleasure on offer. Music at 8:30 PM in Pioneertown. Bills like this are how a scene shows a town what it has been building, and how the people in it find out who else drove out.
