RISE of the Jack O'Lanterns — Los Angeles
In 6 days · Oct 13 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Somewhere between the pumpkin you carved as a kid and actual sculpture sits this thing, and it lands much closer to sculpture than you are ready for. More than five thousand hand-carved, illuminated pumpkins line a timed walking path — not triangle faces but full portraits, scenes and figures glowing in the dark, set to an ambient score. Nothing jumps out at you. No roaming monsters. It is Halloween for people who love the craft and the glow more than the fear: couples on a date, families with small kids, anyone who wants October to feel like wonder instead of adrenaline. Entry runs in fifteen-minute intervals so the path never bunches up. Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S Figueroa St. October 13. It is gone in four nights, and it is the rare seasonal thing that is genuinely worth the drive.

LA Auto Show 2026 — Los Angeles, CA
Nov 21 – Dec 6, 2026 0 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

In the most car-dependent city in America, the future of the thing everyone drives arrives for two weeks in a single hall - concept cars that may never be built, standing at full scale, glowing under dramatic light. The LA Auto Show opens at the LA Convention Center in late November, the world's automakers presenting their current thinking to the people who will actually drive it. Walking the floor is an exercise in cultural prediction. The main hall holds every major manufacturer's flagship display, vehicles you have only read about suddenly appearing at full scale, and the concept cars are the centerpiece every year - designed to show capability rather than sell product. Adjacent to the main floor, the Connected Car Expo runs at the same time, showing the technology that will eventually be embedded in every vehicle, while the Dream Drive pavilion offers test drives at select activations. AutoMobility LA, the industry media days the preceding week, produces most of the announcement news; the public show is where those announcements become tangible. Is it worth attending? For car enthusiasts, straightforwardly yes - the density of new vehicles in one place, with full access and no appointment, is rare. For casual visitors, the show rewards curiosity: the concept cars are genuinely strange and beautiful in ways photographs never capture, and the electric vehicle pavilion gives most major manufacturers' EV lineups the same room, the clearest possible illustration of where the industry is in its transition. Tickets are available online and at the door - online saves time at entry. The Convention Center is reachable by Metro (Pico or Convention Center stations), and weekday mornings are the least crowded windows if you have flexibility. The show runs from late November into early December, coinciding with the opening of the holiday retail season downtown, so the area is busy beyond the show itself. It has historically allowed children under 12 free with an adult - check the official site for 2026 pricing and hours. What makes it worth the trip is simple: it is one of the few annual events in any industry where the most powerful companies in the world put their most ambitious work in one room and ask the public to react. The automotive industry employs more people than any sector in the United States, and the LA show is its most public annual report. Even without buying a car, walking it is a way of reading the industry's intentions for the next decade.

You are allowed to open the door and sit in a car that has not gone on sale and may never go on sale. Nobody stops you. That is the whole appeal, and it is a strange kind of privilege. For over a century this has been where automakers make the announcements that decide the next few years. Concepts still months away from a yes or no. Battery platforms shown in public for the first time. Model years kept secret until somebody pulls a sheet off. The trade days come first and take most of the reveals, and the public days that follow add ride-alongs, driving demos and enough floor space to lose an afternoon in. Performance, luxury, trucks and the electrified stuff each get their own territory. Downtown at the convention center in November, Metro to Pico Station. Take the kid who draws cars in the margins of their homework. Then watch what happens to their face.

Anime Expo 2027 — Los Angeles Convention Center
Jul 1 – Jul 4, 2027 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

You will be tired in a way that feels earned. Four days, a hundred thousand people, and not one of them needs you to explain what you are talking about. The largest anime convention in North America takes the Los Angeles Convention Center over Fourth of July weekend and spills into the JW Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton beside it. Industry panels, screening rooms, autograph sessions with voice actors and composers, concerts that sell out weeks ahead. Studios from Japan use this as their main North American announcement stage — if a sequel or adaptation is being revealed, it often happens in a room you could be standing in. The exhibit hall carries imported merchandise and collaboration exclusives that surface nowhere else on the continent. Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S Figueroa St. Thursday through Sunday. Badges run from top-tier early-access down to single-day passes. Book the connected hotel corridor months out. Everyone who tells you that learned it the hard way.

Star Wars Celebration 2027 — Los Angeles Convention Center
Every day · Next Apr 1 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Fifty years ago a farm boy looked up at twin suns and a generation learned what longing sounds like. Star Wars Celebration returns to Los Angeles on April 1–4, 2027, to mark the 50th anniversary of the film that changed everything. This is the gathering where Lucasfilm pulls back the curtain — world premieres of upcoming projects, panels with the creators who are building the next chapters, first looks at footage that won't exist anywhere else for months. The show floor spans the LA Convention Center with walk-through exhibits, a cosplay showcase that draws the most ambitious builders on the planet, exclusive merchandise that sells out before lunch, and the collective energy of tens of thousands of people who all trace something essential about who they are back to that same opening crawl. The 50th anniversary makes this one different. Half a century of stories, characters, music, and moments that shaped how an entire culture thinks about heroism, redemption, and the distance between who you are and who you could be. Whether you've been here since 1977 or discovered it last year, Celebration is the room where every version of that journey is valid. What makes Star Wars Celebration unlike any other fan convention is that it is the only place where the future of the franchise is revealed first. Every major announcement — from The Mandalorian's debut trailer to Ahsoka's first footage to the reveal of new theatrical films — happened at Celebration before it happened anywhere else. The industry comes because Lucasfilm treats this room as the premiere venue. The fans come because they've been part of this story longer than most relationships in their lives. Expect four full days of programming: the headline showcase at the Honda Center (separate ticket tier), hundreds of panels across multiple stages, the Fan Stage where cosplayers and community creators take the spotlight, interactive experiences that put you inside the worlds of the saga, and the Artist Alley where illustrators who shaped the visual language of Star Wars sell original work. Four-day adult passes from $260.99. Children 4–12 from $105.99. Los Angeles Convention Center. April 1–4, 2027. The anniversary year has screenings and smaller gatherings running all through it, and the people in this room will be at those too.

Anime Expo 2027 — Day 4 (Sunday)
Jul 4, 2027 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Everyone chases the opening days — the announcements, the premieres, the Hall H-sized adrenaline. The people who know AX chase the last one. Sunday is when the world's largest anime convention exhales: the lines go short, the floor slows down, and the conversations finally stop being shouted between panels and start being real. It's also the day the floor gets generous. Artist Alley cuts prices to clear the table, exhibitors let exclusive merch go at a discount, and the Closing Ceremonies — the weekend cosplay recap, the Masquerade awards, the official goodbye — mark the moment four days of strangers become the community that'll wait a whole year to reassemble. Day 4 badges are the easiest to find on resale and the most underrated ticket of the convention. And in 2027 the finale lands on the Fourth of July, with fireworks visible from parts of the LACC plaza depending on which way they launch. Anime Expo 2027, Sunday July 4, Los Angeles Convention Center. Take Metro or rideshare — downtown parking and traffic are brutal on the Fourth. Come for the goodbye; it's the part that stays with you.

Lowrider Super Show Los Angeles 2026

Ask the man standing next to the car who started the build and you will get an uncle, a garage, and a decade. That is what outsiders miss walking this floor: every candy panel, every airbrushed hood, every set of wire wheels is a household's worth of patience handed down through a neighborhood. Hundreds of them come here to be seen, indoors, so weather never gets a vote. It is not a static show either. The hoppers bounce on a schedule, the systems hit hard enough to feel in your sternum, and the culture is switched on from open to close. Custom trucks, motorcycles, bicycles built to the same obsessive standard. Trophies handed out all day for everything from paint to hydraulics. Downtown at the convention center, a full day, parking in the structures on Pico and Figueroa. Come early. The floor is deep, and the best conversations happen standing next to the cars.

Lowrider Magazine Car Show 2026 — Los Angeles Convention Center
Sep 5, 2026 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Hydraulics are not a modification. They are a sentence. Every bounce says the same thing: I built this with my hands, it moves when I tell it to, and nothing on a dealership floor is ever getting close. This one closes out the year's tour, which means the builds arriving downtown have been chased all season. Candy paint that took six months to lay down. Interiors stitched by somebody's uncle who learned it from somebody's grandfather. Chrome polished until it reflects an entire aesthetic philosophy back at the room. The competition is real and the trophies matter, but the feeling on the floor is closer to a homecoming, a whole culture showing up in one building to look at itself. The convention center on Figueroa, a full day in September. If you have ever wondered what it looks like when craftsmanship becomes identity, the answer is here in metalflake, and it will talk to you if you ask.

Anime Expo 2026 — Los Angeles, CA
Jul 2 – Jul 5, 2026 From $87 (1-day) / $175 (4-day) Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Every July 4th weekend, the Los Angeles Convention Center stops being a convention center and becomes the largest gathering of anime fans in North America. The four-day span draws 100,000 attendees and turns downtown LA into the axis of the anime world for the summer. The scale hits you immediately. The Exhibit Hall spans over 340,000 square feet of merchandise, artist booths, publisher displays, and licensed collectibles. Artist Alley is a separate destination — hundreds of independent creators selling original art, prints, and handmade goods, the kind of work you will not find on any streaming platform or official retail channel. The Industry Panels are where announcements happen: English dub cast reveals, new season confirmations, licensing news that fans will screenshot and share for weeks. Voice actor autograph sessions routinely have lines forming before sunrise. Is Anime Expo worth it? If you are even moderately embedded in anime culture — yes, emphatically. The density of what you can see and do in four days at the LACC is unmatched. There is no equivalent event in North America for scope, for industry access, for the sheer number of people who look exactly as excited about the same things you are. The cosplay alone — tens of thousands of costumes across every franchise — is worth the badge price for someone who has never seen it at this scale. Before you go: buy your badge early; prices increase and popular event tickets (Masquerade, concerts) require separate purchase and sell out fast. The convention floor opens at 9am but autograph lottery lines form before 7. Wear comfortable shoes — you will walk six miles without trying. The 4th of July weekend means Downtown LA is also hosting holiday events; plan transit accordingly. Metro is faster than driving. Bring cash for Artist Alley. Anime Expo earns its Nation's Best position because it is the single largest public expression of a cultural moment that has been building for thirty years and shows no sign of slowing. The mainstream discovered anime. AX is where the culture that built it celebrates on its own terms. Los Angeles Convention Center. July 2–5, 2026. The concert programming — separate ticketed events within AX — brings J-pop and ani-song artists to Los Angeles who rarely perform in North America outside of this weekend. If you follow any Japanese artist, check the concert schedule before finalizing your badge type. These shows sell out independently of the main badge and often represent the single best live music opportunity of any anime fan's year.

If you have ever had to explain to a houseguest why there is a skull on the bookshelf, keep reading. Over a hundred vendors fill the floor with taxidermy, preserved specimens, original dark artwork, horror-inspired clothing, antiques, quack medical devices, odd jewelry, bones, funeral collectibles, and handmade objects that fit no category anyone has bothered to name. This is emphatically not a Halloween store. The curation is the whole difference. These are collectors, artists, and specialists who do this full-time, and the people walking the aisles arrived knowing exactly what they came to hunt. Sideshow performers work the stage across both days. Hands-on classes run alongside: opossum taxidermy, ratalope coffin taxidermy, octopus wet specimen, entomology habitats, all taught properly and all filling fast. Children get in free, which produces some genuinely excellent family photographs. Bring the friend whose apartment you have always described to other people as a cabinet of curiosities.

Live music that is genuinely local — acoustic sets, small bands, the occasional DJ. Games. A crowd of PB locals and students and people who simply wandered up from the beach still holding a towel. Past vendors have run birria tacos, banh mi, craft lemonade, Hawaiian shave ice, artisan pastries, small-batch hot sauces. A few craft sellers usually set up alongside. The smell reaches you before the stages do - barbecue and catfish and soul food covering a mile-plus of Crenshaw Boulevard, because every major Black-owned restaurant in South LA has a booth out here and the food is the center of the whole thing. For one Saturday in October, this stretch between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Leimert Park Village becomes one of the largest street festivals in Los Angeles. More than 300,000 people move through in a single day. The format is street vendors, restaurant booths, live music stages, a car show, health screenings, and community organization presence - but it is the food and the crowd that make it. Founded by the Los Angeles Sentinel, the oldest Black-owned newspaper in California, it has run for over two decades and stayed a genuine community institution: multigenerational, neighborhood-rooted, and enormous. This is Leimert Park and Crenshaw at their fullest. Free to attend. Crenshaw closes to traffic for the day. The Metro K Line stops at Leimert Park Village and is the easiest way in and out. Arrive early if you want to move - by noon the crowds are deep.

Your chest hears them before your ears do. A sound comes in off the water, every conversation on the Embarcadero stops mid-sentence, and a few thousand heads tilt back at the same moment. This is the week the Blue Angels belong to San Diego Bay, flying low enough that the downtown skyline becomes their backdrop. What visitors miss is the quieter half. You can walk aboard Navy destroyers, submarines, and amphibious ships free of charge, up the gangway and into the passageways where somebody's kid stands on deployment. The Parade of Ships moves through the bay, the bands play, and the city says out loud that the Navy is its largest employer. This is not a show San Diego hosts. It is San Diego looking at itself.
