Monday night at Crypto.com Arena, the Lakers host the Utah Jazz in a regular-season NBA matchup that lights up the heart of downtown Los Angeles. The arena in DTLA is one of the loudest rooms in professional basketball — seventeen championship banners catch the light overhead, the crowd runs loud from tip-off, and the building itself has hosted more marquee moments than any arena west of the Mississippi. Whether you are chasing a first game or your fiftieth, the energy of a Lakers home night stays with you long after the final buzzer. Doors open early, the surrounding DTLA food and bar scene provides a full pregame experience on Figueroa Street and LA Live, and the Crypto.com Arena plaza turns into its own gathering before every contest. The Jazz bring a young, fast roster that pushes the pace, making for an up-tempo game that rewards every minute of attention from the opening tip to the fourth-quarter stretch. Game time is 7:00 PM.

Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena, the Kings welcome the Vegas Golden Knights for an early-December Pacific Division rivalry game that opens a long homestand. The Kings-Knights matchup has become one of the most anticipated on the Western Conference calendar — Vegas brings a traveling fanbase loud enough to make any arena feel contested, gold jerseys scattered through the lower bowl, and the Kings faithful answer in kind with a defensive intensity that turns every neutral-zone battle into a statement. The ice at Crypto.com Arena sits right in the heart of downtown LA, surrounded by the same restaurants and bars that fuel the Lakers pregame scene, but hockey nights carry a different edge: smaller, more dedicated crowds, tighter sightlines from every level, and a sport that rewards attention with violence and beauty in equal measure. December is when the NHL season starts to reveal who is real and who is pretending, and a divisional game against Vegas is a measuring stick nobody in the building takes lightly. Puck drops at 7:00 PM.

Thursday night hockey at Crypto.com Arena as the Kings take on the Minnesota Wild in the second game of LA's December homestand. December hockey in Los Angeles is one of the city's quietest pleasures — the tourist crowds thin out after Thanksgiving, the arena stays cold and loud, and the Kings settle into the rhythm of a long home stretch that rewards the regulars who show up on weeknights when the rest of the city is elsewhere. Minnesota brings a blue-collar road game built on forechecking and neutral-zone discipline, the kind of opponent that makes for a cleaner, faster contest than the divisional grudge matches — fewer scrums, more transition, and a pace that pulls you to the edge of your seat before you realize you are leaning. The DTLA location means you can walk to dinner in any direction after the final horn, and the Thursday-night timing puts you back home before midnight with a story about a game most of your friends did not know was happening. That is the beauty of weeknight hockey in this city: it belongs to the people who were paying attention. Puck drops at 7:00 PM.

December 26 is the flattest day of the year. The presents are open, the good food is gone, three relatives are still in the house, and everybody is being very careful with each other. What the day needs is somewhere loud to drive to.
Downtown has the strangest building in American sport for this. The same floor that held a basketball game two nights ago gets flipped overnight, and by seven there is an ice sheet in a city where it was seventy-one degrees at lunch. Hockey in a place with no winter never stops being a slightly absurd proposition, which is exactly why the people who love it here love it so hard.
The visiting team is also brand new, which means this is one of the first times that name has ever gone up on this scoreboard.
Take the relative you have run out of conversation with. Nobody has to talk at a hockey game.

Nobody knows what day it is between Christmas and New Year. Half the city is technically working, the other half is lying about it, and every plan anybody proposes gets agreed to instantly because the alternative is a fourth consecutive evening of nothing in particular.
Here is the thing worth knowing about this specific night. When Toronto comes to town, roughly a third of the building turns blue. Canadians who moved here for the weather and have never once admitted to missing anything about home come out for this one game, wearing a jersey that has not left a closet since October, and they are loud in a way that genuinely irritates the home crowd.
That tension is the entire evening, and it is reliably better than the hockey.
Send it to the coworker who says eh about once a month and pretends not to notice themselves doing it.

January 2 asks nothing at all of anybody. The parade has gone by, the bowl game is finished, the resolutions are two days old and not yet broken, and there is an entire Saturday sitting there with nothing whatsoever booked on it.
A six o'clock puck drop is the civilised version of a sports evening. You are in your seat before dark, you are back out on Figueroa by half eight, and the night is still in front of you rather than behind. Downtown on the second of January is also quiet enough that parking stops being the argument it usually is on a Saturday.
The team that plays here won this league twice in three years not so long ago, which for a franchise that waited forty-five years to win it once is still something people bring up entirely unprompted.
For whoever spent New Year's Eve indoors and has been quietly regretting it since.

Crypto.com Arena, 1111 S Figueroa …
The first Monday back is the worst Monday of the year. Four hundred emails, a calendar that quietly filled itself while you were away, and the slow horror of working out that nothing was actually resolved over the break. Driving straight home afterward only extends the feeling.
Monday home games are the quiet secret of a hockey season. The building sits about two thirds full, the seats are the cheapest they will be all winter, and because it is that quiet you can genuinely hear the players calling to each other and the puck banging off the boards. That is a completely different sport from a sold-out Saturday.
The same visiting team played down in Anaheim the night before, which is a brutal pair of nights for them and a good one for anybody watching.
Take the person from work who has also not recovered yet.
Seven o'clock, Figueroa, Monday January 4.

An expansion team sold out an entire season before it had played a single game, which quietly settled an argument people had been having for decades: the appetite was never the question, only the access. Now the most-hyped new team in the league comes south to face a founding franchise in a rivalry that did not exist eighteen months ago and already feels permanent. This is the game the women's-basketball person in your life will not miss — the friend who has been going since the Lisa Leslie era, and the one who started watching last summer and has not stopped talking about it since. A Sunday afternoon downtown, two California teams, and a sport finally given the room it earned a long time ago. Bring the kid who plays travel ball. She will spend the whole drive home deciding who she wants to be.

Somewhere in this city tonight there is a back room where the pinball never stopped — machines everyone assumed died with the arcades, lined up, lit up, and played for blood by people who know each ruleset cold. You thought it was nostalgia. They kept it a sport.
Once a month the league runs a real tournament: matchplay, a new opponent and a random machine every round, points stacking across the night. It is IFPA-sanctioned, but that is not why the regulars come. A good table is the most honest machine there is. It does not care who you are, only whether you can read the ball.
Here is what outsiders never expect: this crowd wants you to get good. Show up knowing only how to keep a ball alive and someone ranked will lean over between rounds and show you where the safe nudge is, when to let it drain on purpose.
Venues rotate. Check the league's Facebook group and the IFPA calendar for this month's location. All-ages at most stops, 21+ at the bars.

Riot Games Arena, 12181 Bluff Cree…
Every region sends its dark horses, and most of them go home in the first week. That is what makes the opening stage the most nervous, least predictable stretch of the whole tournament.
The Play-In Stage is where teams that did not walk in with a guaranteed bracket spot have to earn one, on foreign soil, against opponents they have only ever studied on video. Nothing is safe and nobody is comfortable. Upsets that reshape the entire championship happen here, in front of a few hundred people, before the broadcast audience has fully tuned in.
Riot Games Arena is the tightest, loudest room in North American esports — small enough that crowd noise reaches the stage, close enough to watch a player's posture change when a fight goes wrong. From inside that building it is a different sport.
Riot Games Arena, 12181 Bluff Creek Dr, Playa Vista. October 15-18. Tickets through lolesports.com.

Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…
There are only two US Regional Championship stops this year. This is one of them.
That single fact reorganizes the whole weekend. The Regional Championship determines who qualifies for the national series, which means the room is full of people whose season comes down to these tables — and you can feel it in how quiet the top tables get.
But the weekend is built so you do not have to be one of them. Ten-dollar entry drafts, Commander brackets, and Standard opens run across all four days with no Regional-level preparation required. The dealer hall is one of the better places in Southern California to buy and trade singles, and it is worth the trip on its own.
Star City Games runs the circuit, so the operation is tight — pairings on time, judges who know the floor, side events that actually fire.
Marriott Burbank. October 9-12.
If your Magic is competitive, the only question is whether this makes the season schedule.

Various Venues — LA, Allen TX, New…
Seventy-three million people watched the last final on a screen. A few thousand got to feel the room move — and that gap is the entire reason to be in the building. The 2026 League of Legends World Championship runs October 15 through November 14 across three American cities, nineteen teams deep, and for the first time in the tournament's history the trophy gets lifted on the East Coast.
Each stage is a different sport. The Play-Ins open in Los Angeles inside Riot's own studio arena, a room tight enough that crowd noise reaches the stage and close enough to watch a player's posture change when a fight goes wrong. Allen, Texas is where the field gets cut — teams grinding through a Swiss format for eight knockout seats, afternoon after afternoon, in the least glamorous and most brutal stretch of the whole run. Brooklyn is the coronation. There is a moment in a Worlds match where a team's composition either clicks or comes apart, and the arena registers it a half-second before the casters do; you feel the shift in the crowd before you understand what happened on the map.
This is not for someone who needs the broadcast overlay to follow a teamfight. The crowd on a bracket night knows exactly what it is watching, and that shared literacy is the thing a stream cannot hand you — when an arena gasps at a ward placement, you are either in on it or you are lost. If you have put a thousand hours into this game and never once sat in a room full of people who did the same, it is worth the trip. If you follow it casually, watch the broadcast and keep the money; the ticket buys proximity, not understanding.
What people get wrong: they treat it as one event with one ticket. Sessions are sold per date, and inventory is not identical across them — the Texas dates behave nothing like the final. When general sale opened for Brooklyn, roughly 430 seats appeared and were gone within minutes, then surfaced on resale as high as 3,200 dollars against a 120-to-350 face. Every date is mobile entry only; your phone is the ticket. Bags are capped small (under 4.5 by 8.5 inches) or medium clear (under 14 by 14 by 6), and interchangeable-lens cameras, tripods, gimbals and selfie sticks are all refused at the door. Phones are fine for personal recording. Venue rules differ between Texas and Brooklyn, so read each one separately rather than assuming.
Worlds is the closest thing competitive gaming has to a national holiday, and 2026 is the year it stopped being a West Coast story. Play-Ins in Los Angeles October 15–18; Swiss Stage and the quarterfinals and semifinals at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, October 23 through November 8; the final at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on November 14. Tickets through Ticketmaster via lolesports.com. Whichever city you pick, you will spend the rest of the season arguing about what you saw with people who were not there.

Feb 14, 2027

SoFi Stadium, 1001 Stadium Drive, …
The Super Bowl has come to Los Angeles before. It has never come to SoFi. That changes February 7, 2027 — at the half-billion-dollar stadium that opened in 2020 and changed what a modern NFL venue can look like: translucent canopy, open-air California design, Hollywood Park campus surrounding it.
What Super Bowl week in Los Angeles looks and feels like is unlike any other sporting event on the calendar. The week before the game, Radio Row draws every media personality with a microphone. The NFL Experience fan festival opens to the public at the Convention Center. Celebrity parties are announced and cancelled and announced again. The halftime show rehearsals happen under tight security at the stadium while the surrounding streets fill with brand activations, pop-ups, and spontaneous gatherings of fans who couldn't get tickets but wanted to be near the thing. Los Angeles absorbs the Super Bowl differently than Nashville or Minneapolis — the entertainment industry and sports culture overlap here in a way that produces genuine energy rather than manufactured excitement.
Is the Super Bowl worth attending in person? If you have the means and the access, the answer is yes, but the experience is as much about the week as the game. Super Bowl tickets are among the most expensive in sports, and the seat you occupy at game time may matter less than the four days of surrounding events, parties, and city energy that build toward kickoff. For the majority of people who will experience Super Bowl LXI from Los Angeles without attending the game, the city itself becomes a venue. Watch parties at venues across SoCal will be among the most concentrated social events of the year.
What to know: Tickets sell through the NFL and Ticketmaster — secondary market prices will be extreme. The SoFi Stadium campus includes a performance venue (YouTube Theater), a casino (Inglewood), and hotel development in progress; the entertainment zone around the stadium is walkable and dense. Metro's C Line (Green) stops at Hawthorne/Lennox, about a 20-minute walk from SoFi. Parking is limited and expensive; transit from LAX is the recommended option for most attendees. The week's best experiences are often free — Radio Row, fan zones, and the energy of the city.
Super Bowl LXI matters for one reason beyond the game itself: it is the largest single-day American cultural event, and in 2027 it comes to Los Angeles. The convergence of the NFL, Hollywood, the music industry (halftime show), and the national media in one city for one weekend creates a cultural moment that extends far beyond the game. Knowing about it, knowing what week to plan around it, knowing the venue and the city — that is the preparation that turns an ordinary February into the right February.
