Hollywood Pantages Theatre, 6233 H…
Before jukebox musicals were a thing, The Who blew the doors off with a full-blown rock opera about a deaf, dumb, and blind kid who becomes a pinball messiah, and the Broadway revival of Tommy reinvented it for the stage with jaw-dropping projections, strobe-lit spectacle, and that wall of guitar. Pinball Wizard hits differently when a live band is shaking the walls of the Hollywood Pantages. This is loud, strange, gorgeous theater for people who think they don't like musicals. The touring production plays the Pantages October 27 through November 15, 2026, in the heart of Hollywood off the Metro B Line. Come for the songs you already know by heart, stay for a story far weirder and more moving than the radio hits let on. Bring the classic-rock fan who swears they hate Broadway; watch them cave.

Jun 24 – Aug 22, 2027
Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo,…
Every four years somebody at work has a stream open with the sound off, and you can tell from their face what just happened. You always think the same thing in that moment. One of these times you are going to stop watching this on a screen.
In June 2027 the Women's World Cup goes to Brazil, and it is the first time the tournament has ever been held anywhere in South America. Not Europe, not North America, not Australia and New Zealand — the country where the game is closer to a first language than a pastime. Thirty-two teams, sixty-four matches, eight cities: Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Porto Alegre, Salvador, Recife and Fortaleza. It opens at the Maracana on 24 June and the final comes back to the same stadium on 25 July.
What that stadium means is most of what makes this different. The Maracana opened in 1950 and has been the room where Brazilian football keeps its grief and its records — the 1950 final, the 2014 final, the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2016 Olympics. Roughly seventy-nine thousand seats. Brazil won the hosting rights in May 2024, and there is a detail in the schedule that regular tournament-watchers notice immediately: the opener and the final are in the same building. That is not standard. It means the month has a shape — it leaves from a place and returns to it — and if you are choosing one match to be at, the people who plan these trips will tell you the opener is the cheaper ticket into the more famous room.
Who this is actually for: not the person who wants a holiday with football attached. Brazilian winter in the south means Porto Alegre can be genuinely cold in July while Fortaleza and Recife sit near the equator and do not — eight cities across a country larger than the continental United States is a travel problem, not a walkable itinerary. Pick a city and let the draw come to you rather than chasing a team across four time zones. But if you are the person who has spent three tournaments saying next time, this is the one worth breaking the pattern for, and not because the football will be better. Because a full house in Brazil does not sound like a full house anywhere else, and the women's game has never once been handed that particular room.
Most people reading this will not go, and the group chat it starts is worth something on its own. For the ones who might: the draw has not happened, so nobody knows yet who plays where — which means right now the only decision available is the city, and that is the decision that books out first. Tickets and registration run through FIFA. The tournament runs 24 June to 25 July 2027, opening and closing at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.

Various venues, Los Angeles, CA
Somewhere in this city tonight there is a back room where the pinball never stopped — machines everyone assumed died with the arcades, lined up, lit up, and played for blood by people who know each ruleset cold. You thought it was nostalgia. They kept it a sport.
Once a month the league runs a real tournament: matchplay, a new opponent and a random machine every round, points stacking across the night. It is IFPA-sanctioned, but that is not why the regulars come. A good table is the most honest machine there is. It does not care who you are, only whether you can read the ball.
Here is what outsiders never expect: this crowd wants you to get good. Show up knowing only how to keep a ball alive and someone ranked will lean over between rounds and show you where the safe nudge is, when to let it drain on purpose.
Venues rotate. Check the league's Facebook group and the IFPA calendar for this month's location. All-ages at most stops, 21+ at the bars.

Riot Games Arena, 12181 Bluff Cree…
Every region sends its dark horses, and most of them go home in the first week. That is what makes the opening stage the most nervous, least predictable stretch of the whole tournament.
The Play-In Stage is where teams that did not walk in with a guaranteed bracket spot have to earn one, on foreign soil, against opponents they have only ever studied on video. Nothing is safe and nobody is comfortable. Upsets that reshape the entire championship happen here, in front of a few hundred people, before the broadcast audience has fully tuned in.
Riot Games Arena is the tightest, loudest room in North American esports — small enough that crowd noise reaches the stage, close enough to watch a player's posture change when a fight goes wrong. From inside that building it is a different sport.
Riot Games Arena, 12181 Bluff Creek Dr, Playa Vista. October 15-18. Tickets through lolesports.com.
If you have only ever watched it on stream, this is the one to go to.

Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…
There are only two US Regional Championship stops this year. This is one of them.
That single fact reorganizes the whole weekend. The Regional Championship determines who qualifies for the national series, which means the room is full of people whose season comes down to these tables — and you can feel it in how quiet the top tables get.
But the weekend is built so you do not have to be one of them. Ten-dollar entry drafts, Commander brackets, and Standard opens run across all four days with no Regional-level preparation required. The dealer hall is one of the better places in Southern California to buy and trade singles, and it is worth the trip on its own.
Star City Games runs the circuit, so the operation is tight — pairings on time, judges who know the floor, side events that actually fire.
Marriott Burbank. October 9-12.
If your Magic is competitive, the only question is whether this makes the season schedule.

Various Venues — LA, Allen TX, New…
Seventy-three million people watched the last final on a screen. A few thousand got to feel the room move — and that gap is the entire reason to be in the building. The 2026 League of Legends World Championship runs October 15 through November 14 across three American cities, nineteen teams deep, and for the first time in the tournament's history the trophy gets lifted on the East Coast.
Each stage is a different sport. The Play-Ins open in Los Angeles inside Riot's own studio arena, a room tight enough that crowd noise reaches the stage and close enough to watch a player's posture change when a fight goes wrong. Allen, Texas is where the field gets cut — teams grinding through a Swiss format for eight knockout seats, afternoon after afternoon, in the least glamorous and most brutal stretch of the whole run. Brooklyn is the coronation. There is a moment in a Worlds match where a team's composition either clicks or comes apart, and the arena registers it a half-second before the casters do; you feel the shift in the crowd before you understand what happened on the map.
This is not for someone who needs the broadcast overlay to follow a teamfight. The crowd on a bracket night knows exactly what it is watching, and that shared literacy is the thing a stream cannot hand you — when an arena gasps at a ward placement, you are either in on it or you are lost. If you have put a thousand hours into this game and never once sat in a room full of people who did the same, it is worth the trip. If you follow it casually, watch the broadcast and keep the money; the ticket buys proximity, not understanding.
What people get wrong: they treat it as one event with one ticket. Sessions are sold per date, and inventory is not identical across them — the Texas dates behave nothing like the final. When general sale opened for Brooklyn, roughly 430 seats appeared and were gone within minutes, then surfaced on resale as high as 3,200 dollars against a 120-to-350 face. Every date is mobile entry only; your phone is the ticket. Bags are capped small (under 4.5 by 8.5 inches) or medium clear (under 14 by 14 by 6), and interchangeable-lens cameras, tripods, gimbals and selfie sticks are all refused at the door. Phones are fine for personal recording. Venue rules differ between Texas and Brooklyn, so read each one separately rather than assuming.
Worlds is the closest thing competitive gaming has to a national holiday, and 2026 is the year it stopped being a West Coast story. Play-Ins in Los Angeles October 15–18; Swiss Stage and the quarterfinals and semifinals at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, October 23 through November 8; the final at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on November 14. Tickets through Ticketmaster via lolesports.com. Whichever city you pick, you will spend the rest of the season arguing about what you saw with people who were not there.

SoFi Stadium, 1001 Stadium Drive, …
The Super Bowl has come to Los Angeles before. It has never come to SoFi. That changes February 7, 2027 — at the half-billion-dollar stadium that opened in 2020 and changed what a modern NFL venue can look like: translucent canopy, open-air California design, Hollywood Park campus surrounding it.
What Super Bowl week in Los Angeles looks and feels like is unlike any other sporting event on the calendar. The week before the game, Radio Row draws every media personality with a microphone. The NFL Experience fan festival opens to the public at the Convention Center. Celebrity parties are announced and cancelled and announced again. The halftime show rehearsals happen under tight security at the stadium while the surrounding streets fill with brand activations, pop-ups, and spontaneous gatherings of fans who couldn't get tickets but wanted to be near the thing. Los Angeles absorbs the Super Bowl differently than Nashville or Minneapolis — the entertainment industry and sports culture overlap here in a way that produces genuine energy rather than manufactured excitement.
Is the Super Bowl worth attending in person? If you have the means and the access, the answer is yes, but the experience is as much about the week as the game. Super Bowl tickets are among the most expensive in sports, and the seat you occupy at game time may matter less than the four days of surrounding events, parties, and city energy that build toward kickoff. For the majority of people who will experience Super Bowl LXI from Los Angeles without attending the game, the city itself becomes a venue. Watch parties at venues across SoCal will be among the most concentrated social events of the year.
What to know: Tickets sell through the NFL and Ticketmaster — secondary market prices will be extreme. The SoFi Stadium campus includes a performance venue (YouTube Theater), a casino (Inglewood), and hotel development in progress; the entertainment zone around the stadium is walkable and dense. Metro's C Line (Green) stops at Hawthorne/Lennox, about a 20-minute walk from SoFi. Parking is limited and expensive; transit from LAX is the recommended option for most attendees. The week's best experiences are often free — Radio Row, fan zones, and the energy of the city.
Super Bowl LXI matters for one reason beyond the game itself: it is the largest single-day American cultural event, and in 2027 it comes to Los Angeles. The convergence of the NFL, Hollywood, the music industry (halftime show), and the national media in one city for one weekend creates a cultural moment that extends far beyond the game. Knowing about it, knowing what week to plan around it, knowing the venue and the city — that is the preparation that turns an ordinary February into the right February.

950 E 3rd St #1A, Los Angeles, CA …
The fighting game community does not care how long you have been playing. It cares whether you play. Down Back Tuesdays runs on that principle — a biweekly bracket at a brewery in the Arts District where Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and Skullgirls share floor space with people who came to actually compete.
This is not a watch party. This is the version of esports where the person you just lost to can immediately explain what went wrong and then challenge you to a rematch. Amateur brackets run alongside the main event — first-timers are expected, not tolerated. The venue is Arrow Lodge Brewing in downtown Los Angeles's Arts District, which means the skill ceiling and the beer selection are both higher than you would expect from a Tuesday night.
Doors open at 6pm for casuals. Tournament brackets start at 7pm. Entry is five dollars per game plus a fifteen dollar venue fee at the door. Runs every other Tuesday through the year. 950 E 3rd St, Los Angeles.

The good stuff is gone before noon and everyone who comes regularly knows it, which is why the early aisles are full of people moving with purpose and coffee.
A stadium parking lot becomes something else entirely on the weekend. Rows of tables under pop-ups, a man who sells nothing but sockets, a woman running more houseplants than a nursery, crates of records that clearly came out of somebody's actual life, and a vintage rack a dealer drove down from Los Angeles to work. It has been running for over fifty years, long enough that regulars know which vendor is worth circling back to and which one always overprices the same lamp.

By the last day everybody is sunburned, out of clean clothes, and living inside that specific ache of something about to end that cannot be extended.
Sunday is when the festival stops competing with itself. The afternoon belongs to a completely different energy, no more sprinting between conflicts, no obligations left, just the crowd watching itself on the grass while Gobi and Sonora pull the most devoted audiences of the weekend. Then the closing headliner goes on late, near midnight, and hands the crowd an emotional conclusion nobody knew they were owed. This is the day that has produced the sets people still argue about years later, the ones that outgrew the festival and became their own cultural events.
The polo fields in Indio, the final day of the first weekend, camping through the night.

Half the fun is the arithmetic you run standing over a milk crate — is this a dealer who knows exactly what they have, or somebody clearing out a garage who has no idea. In a lot this size you get both, in the same aisle, on the same morning.
Hundreds of vendors spread across the asphalt in the shadow of the stadium: vinyl, mid-century furniture, Levi's with the right stitching, sports memorabilia, film props, and objects that resist classification entirely. You can cover every row and still walk out certain you missed half of it. The early crowd is serious about this — the resellers and the collectors are through the gate before the rest of the city has finished its coffee.
Monthly Saturdays in Lot A off Century Boulevard in Inglewood, small cash admission at the gate, and the K Line runs close enough to walk.

The Mayan, 1038 S Hill St, Los Ang…
Once a year the luchadores put Halloween masks on over their regular masks, and that one act of stacking costume on costume tells you everything about the night you have walked into.
This is the maximalist end of the calendar. The wrestlers go themed. The burlesque performers pull out their biggest numbers. Eduardo Leal presides over the chaos from the mic. And the crowd, which treats the holiday as a competition, turns up in full Day of the Dead makeup, in superhero suits, in luchador masks bought that afternoon specifically for this. A thousand people in an art deco theater at capacity, watching Mexican wrestling tradition collide with LA counterculture. It is either the strangest evening of your year or the best one.
The Mayan on South Hill Street downtown, 21 and over. It sells out weeks ahead, so the email list is how people actually get in.
Go with the person in your life who commits far too hard to a costume. They have been waiting for this room their whole life.
