New York Comic Con 2026 — New York, NY
Tomorrow · Oct 8 – Oct 11 From $45 (1-day) Jacob K. Javits Convention Center,…

The Javits Center in October, a hundred thousand people in four days, every niche of pop culture in one building — and the streets of Hell's Kitchen turning into something you've never seen on a regular Tuesday. The Javits Center fills with a programmatic density that rewards strategic planning. Main stage panels feature talent from the year's biggest genre properties. The show floor covers hundreds of thousands of square feet of publishers, studios, collectibles vendors, and artist booths. Artist Alley at NYCC skews heavily toward comics — the original fanbase — alongside anime, gaming, and TV, giving it a different character than conventions that have shifted more entirely toward film and streaming. The autograph and photo op schedule is extensive; tickets for specific sessions go on sale in advance and sell out. New York Comic Con in 2026 is celebrating twenty years, and the Coney Island theme suggests organizers are going big on identity and atmosphere. The anniversary edition will likely bring programming and exclusives designed for the occasion. If you have been considering NYCC as a destination event, this is the year to go. The East Coast advantage: NYCC is adjacent to one of the world's great cities. The convention ends at 7pm and New York starts. Restaurants, bars, and attractions are all accessible from the Javits Center. Hotel inventory near the venue is limited; book early and consider Hudson Yards or Hell's Kitchen options within walking distance. Tickets go on sale in June with a Superfan Presale for Popverse members opening before general on-sale. Javits Center, New York City. October 8–11, 2026. New York Comic Con was founded in 2006 and reached 250,000 attendance within its first decade. The 20th anniversary edition in 2026 with the Coney Island theme signals that the organizers are treating this as a milestone year — expect expanded programming, anniversary exclusives, and a level of production that reflects two decades of iteration. If you have been waiting for the right year to make NYCC a destination trip, the 20th anniversary is the obvious choice.

Austin City Limits Music Festival 2026 (Weekend Two) - Austin, TX
In 2 days · Oct 9 3-day and single-day passes Zilker Park, 2100 Barton Springs R…

Eight bands deep into a Saturday, standing in a flat green bowl with the Austin skyline going gold behind the main stage, you stop keeping track of which set you came for. That is the whole proposition of the Austin City Limits Music Festival 2026 - one of America's defining music weekends, a nine-stage festival held every October in Zilker Park a few minutes from downtown Austin, Texas, drawing well over four hundred thousand people across two consecutive weekends. 2026 is the twenty-fifth anniversary, which matters because ACL began as a local extension of a public television taping and became the event that turned Austin's self-description as the Live Music Capital of the World from a slogan into something defensible. Weekend Two runs Friday October 9 through Sunday October 11. What it actually feels like is a city park that has been temporarily colonised by sound. Zilker is flat, open and enormous, and because the stages ring the perimeter you spend the day walking across a green bowl with music arriving from three directions at once. October in Texas is not autumn; it is eighty-five degrees and humid with very little shade, and the single thing that surprises first-timers most is how physical the day becomes. The crowd is noticeably broader than at a destination desert festival - families with wagons, students from the university up the road, people in their sixties who have been coming since the first year. At dusk the downtown skyline lights up directly behind the main stage, and that image is the one everybody takes home. Is it worth it? If you are the kind of person who would rather see eight bands you half-know than one band you already love, yes, emphatically. This is a discovery festival. It is not for anyone who needs a guaranteed front-row view of a single headliner, and it is not a luxury experience - the ground is dirt and the queues are real. The 2026 bill is deliberately genre-fluid: Charli XCX, Lorde, Twenty One Pilots, Rufus Du Sol and The xx play both weekends, while Kings of Leon are Weekend Two only, alongside Natasha Bedingfield, Houndmouth and Bella Kay. Turnstile, Labrinth, Young Miko, Geese, Bleachers, Sofi Tukker, Parcels, The Chainsmokers and The War On Drugs fill out the middle of the bill, which is where a festival is actually won. What to know before you go: Weekend Two is the locals' weekend. Crowds are slightly thinner, security lines move faster, and hotel rates run ten to twenty per cent below Weekend One - the same lineup for less money and less friction, which is why experienced attendees quietly prefer it. Bring an empty refillable bottle; there are free water stations throughout and dehydration is the most common reason people leave early. Wear closed-toe shoes you do not care about. Check the bag policy before you leave the hotel, because it changes year to year and the walk back is long. And go to an early-afternoon set: the field is half empty, the artists are often better than their slot, and by four o'clock every path is a queue. ACL is on this list because it is the clearest American example of a festival that belongs to its city rather than to a promoter's circuit. Twenty-five years in, the lineup is a reasonable snapshot of what the country is listening to, assembled in a park that residents use the other fifty-one weekends of the year. Tickets for Weekend Two are sold as three-day passes and single days, and they move.

#WeTouchGrass presents: SAN DIEGO Anime Rave
In 2 days · Oct 9 – Oct 10 Spin Nightclub, 2028 Hancock St, S…

Loving something loudly in private has a silence all its own. You know the opening eight bars of a song nobody at your job has heard. You have a real opinion about a fight scene you cannot bring up at dinner. Then a room like this opens and the private thing turns out to belong to several hundred people who also stayed up for the simulcast. The remixes are built for exactly this - the DJs cut openings into club edits, so a track you have only ever heard under a title card lands at one in the morning with a floor full of people shouting the Japanese back at it. There is a cosplay catwalk. The cocktails are named after characters. Nobody explains any of it, because nobody needs it explained. Spin Nightclub, 2028 Hancock Street, San Diego. Nine o'clock, twenty-one and over. The same crew runs the Los Angeles room, and the circuit keeps going all year.

Texas Renaissance Festival 2026 — Todd Mission, TX
In 3 days · Oct 10 – Dec 13 21778 FM 1774, Todd Mission, TX 77…

Fifty-five acres in Todd Mission, Texas, eight themed weekends from late September through November. The Texas Renaissance Festival is the largest in the country — and it takes the concept seriously. Each weekend runs a different theme — Celtic Christmas, Halloween/All Hallows Eve, and specialty arts and family weekends — meaning the crowd, entertainment, and atmosphere shift dramatically from week to week. Six stages run simultaneously throughout the day: jousting tournaments, birds of prey demonstrations, fire performers, comedy troupes, and human chess matches. The Turkey Leg is a cultural institution unto itself; the Polonia Restaurant (authentic Polish food on the grounds) has its own dedicated following. Camping on the festival grounds is available and encouraged — staying overnight is its own experience, distinct from the day-visit version. The show closes at 8 PM but the energy runs later. Theme weekends attract different audiences: Celtic Christmas draws costumed annual returners; Halloween weekend brings the largest single-day crowds of the season. If you have attended a Renaissance festival anywhere in the country and thought it could be larger — you haven't seen larger. This is the template that smaller festivals try to replicate, and no other event in the country puts 500,000 people through a 55-acre living history environment across eight consecutive weekends. It is for people who love craft, performance, cosplay, and the kind of community that builds around all three. It is not for people who want to check off an attraction in two hours. The Texas Ren Fest rewards the visitor who stays, explores, and comes back. Buy tickets online in advance — on-site prices are higher and entry lines longer. Arrive at the 9 AM opening to witness the King and Queen gate ceremony; it sets the tone for the day. Bring cash: 00–200 per person is a realistic budget for food and artisan purchases, as card readers are inconsistent. Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes — 55 acres of uneven ground and dust make anything else a mistake. Approach the grounds from Highway 105 (north) to avoid the worst traffic backup. Pick five or six must-see performances before arriving and let everything else happen organically; first-timers who try to see everything see nothing. The themed-weekend structure means it is functionally eight different festivals. Celtic Christmas, in late November, has its own cultlike following among people who return annually in period costume. The Texas Ren Fest has been operating for over 50 years and still generates the reaction of someone discovering it for the first time. Season opens September 26, 2026. The cast live out here and work the circuit of smaller faires the rest of the year, which is why the accents hold up under questioning.

SD Who Con 2026 — San Diego's Doctor Who Convention
In 9 days · Oct 16 Handlery Hotel, 950 Hotel Circle N…

Somewhere in your memory, a blue box is still spinning. You heard the sound once — that impossible grinding wheeze — and something in your chest shifted. You never fully came back from it. SD Who Con returns to San Diego for a weekend built by the people who understand what that sound means. This is not a corporate franchise activation. It is a volunteer-run gathering at the Handlery Hotel, October 16–18, where the hallways fill with cosplayers who sewed their own scarves, collectors who can date a Dalek by its bumps, and first-timers who just discovered that their obsession has a name and a room. Panels, vendors, an Artist and Author Alley, and guest appearances fill the programming. But the real draw is the recognition — sitting in a room where nobody needs the reference explained. Where someone can say 'reverse the polarity' and fifty people laugh without thinking. If you've ever paused a conversation to explain regeneration to someone who didn't ask, your people are already here. The San Diego Doctor Who crowd meets in far smaller rooms the rest of the year, which is where most of these costumes get their test run.

Somewhere between the taiko drums shaking the floor and the takoyaki line that hasn't moved in ten minutes, you'll realize you've been here for four hours and haven't checked your phone once. OC Japan Fair takes over the OC Fair & Event Center every fall with 130+ booths, an estimated 45,000 visitors across three days, and a schedule that runs from J-pop performances and cosplay shows to kimono try-ons and Japanese calligraphy workshops. It is not a food fair with cultural garnish — it's a cultural fair with an absurd amount of food. The ramen vendors alone could fill a separate event. The K-PLAY! crossover means the cosplay crowd, the K-pop crowd, and the otaku crowd all land in the same space at the same time, which creates the kind of energy you don't plan. You just show up and it finds you. October 16–18, 2026. Friday 4–10 PM, Saturday 12–10 PM, Sunday 11 AM–7 PM. OC Fair & Event Center, 88 Fair Dr, Costa Mesa 92626. Tickets $14–$20.

Somebody spent six months on a foam pauldron and somebody else bought their costume online last Tuesday, and for one morning in the most photogenic park in San Diego, nobody cares which one you are. That is the whole premise. So-Cal Cosplay Scene runs it as an open call — any fandom, any level of build, no entry requirements, no competition, no hierarchy. The Spanish Colonial Revival facades do the production work for you: a Zelda build photographs against the museum walls like a production still, and a Star Wars costume catches the fountain light in ways that should not be possible from a public park. It starts in the morning, when the light is good and the park is still quiet. Photographers are welcome and encouraged — bring your gear. Follow @socosplayscene for the gathering point. Just come. That is the entire instruction, and it is the only one that has ever mattered here.

Spirited Away 25th Anniversary — Studio Ghibli Fest 2026
In 10 days · Oct 17 – Oct 21 Varies by theater Fathom Events Theaters Nationwide …

You have been homesick for twenty-five years for a place that was never real. A bathhouse lit gold over black water. A train that only runs one way, across a flooded world, into the dark. Spirited Away gave you that homesickness the first time you saw it — and this October, for one week only, its 25th anniversary and the finale of Studio Ghibli Fest 2026, Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece comes back to the big screen where the ache belongs. There is a particular silence that falls over a theater full of people who love the same film. The lights drop, Joe Hisaishi's first piano notes land, and a room of strangers stops breathing at the same moment. Ghibli Fest runs both the subtitled original and the English dub, with a piece of surprise content before each show. But the real event is the crowd — parents who were kids when this came out, now holding the hands of kids seeing it for the first time; longtime fans catching a detail they'd missed on every laptop rewatch; someone two rows back crying quietly and not caring who sees. Even if you've seen it a dozen times, you have not seen it like this. If Spirited Away is a film you carry around inside you, this isn't a question — you go. Projected, at scale, with sound that fills the room, is the version it was made for. It's rated PG and open to almost everyone, though No-Face and the spirit world can frighten very small children — parents of under-sevens should know that going in. This is not a movie to leave on in the background. It's two hours built to move you, in a room full of people who came to be moved alongside you. Tickets run through the official Ghibli Fest and participating theater box offices, and the anniversary finale sells out earliest of the whole festival — buy ahead. Choose your format on purpose: the dub is the gentle way in for young kids, the subtitled original is what the purists want. Come early for the pre-show content most latecomers miss. Go on a weekend evening if you can, when the theater fills all the way up and the silence gets deeper. Some films you own and still leave the house for. At twenty-five, Spirited Away is less a movie than a place people keep returning to — and going back together, in the dark, is how you remember why it marked you. One week in October. Then the train pulls away again.

Wuthering Waves Concert Tour: To the New World
In 10 days · Oct 17 Peacock Theater, 777 Chick Hearn C…

Loving a game nobody around you plays is a specific kind of lonely. You have four hundred hours in it, you know the soundtrack better than most albums you own, and the people who would understand are all on a Discord server in other time zones. Then a tour announces a North American stop and the server becomes a group of people you can actually stand next to. This is that night. The score for this game is genuinely orchestral - recorded with real ensembles, not a synth patch pretending - and hearing it played live in a two-thousand-seat theater is the closest the medium gets to a symphony hall treating it seriously. Cosplay will be everywhere and nobody will find it remarkable. If you have somebody in your life who has tried to explain this game to you and given up, this is the night to just go with them. This is the North American debut of the tour, which has otherwise only played Asia. Doors well before the eight o'clock downbeat on Saturday the 17th.

The artist alley is the part you actually remember. Not the panels, not the autograph line - the folding table where someone your age was selling a print of a character you thought only you cared about, and you stood there too long, and they said the show's name back to you like a password. Conventions have gotten expensive enough that a lot of people have quietly stopped going. This is that same feeling without the badge: an outdoor artist alley and vendor market in Little Tokyo, free to walk into, with performances and cosplay and a swap-meet corner where people clear out the figures and doujinshi they have outgrown. Free attendance changes who shows up - you get the teenagers and the people who have been in this since the VHS-fansub era standing at the same table. One real detail: vendor spaces run seventy-five dollars, first come, which is why the mix of sellers is different every year instead of the same corporate booths. Sunday, October 18, noon to eight, 244 San Pedro St, Los Angeles.

Oct 24, 2026 Free Quartyard, 1301 Market St, San Die…

You have been building it since summer. The wig came in wrong, you redid the seams twice, and there is one detail nobody outside a very specific fandom will catch — which is exactly why you need to be in a room where somebody will. The Saturday before Halloween is when a costume hits peak intensity: months of work, worn among people who arrived in the same spirit. Quartyard is the right room for it. Outdoors in East Village, the air finally cool, venue lights doing what a phone flash never can, and a crowd that came to see the builds rather than to be seen. The conversation about who chose which character and why runs all night. Free to attend on October 24th, details at meetup.com/anime-watch-san-diego. Come in the thing you have been sewing for months or the thing you assembled last night — both are read the same way here.

So-Cal Cosplay Shoot — Halloween Special
Oct 25, 2026 Free Balboa Park, San Diego, CA 92101

The costume has been hanging on the back of a door for weeks now, waiting for a reason to exist. This is the reason. Late October changes Balboa Park. The light drops lower and warmer, the air finally cools, and the Spanish Colonial Revival facades stop reading as pretty and start reading as atmospheric — a horror build against the Museum of Man looks like a production still from something that cost millions. The fountain plaza does things in the afternoon that are genuinely hard to fake anywhere else. The park does most of the work for you. So-Cal Cosplay Scene runs it as an open call: any fandom, any character, no quality threshold, no hierarchy. Halloween-themed is expected, not required. Photographers of every skill level are told to bring their gear, and the morning hours hold the best light before the crowds arrive. Free to attend; the meet point posts to @socosplayscene. Comic Con Los Angeles 2026 — Stan Lee's LACC
Oct 30 – Nov 1, 2026 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

The big one down the coast takes all the attention. The people who come to this one prefer it that way, and they are quietly glad you have not worked it out yet. Three days at the Convention Center — celebrity signings, panels, and an exhibitor floor that runs independent publishers alongside the major houses. Fifty thousand people who grew up on the same stories, turning a hall into a reunion. The character is different on purpose. This is the industry's own convention, the one people attend in costume because they want to rather than because the press is watching. Comics, sci-fi, gaming, horror, anime, fantasy, across all three days. Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S Figueroa St. October 30 through November 1. The mythology is still being made in that room, and some of the people making it are sitting at a table waiting for someone to say hello.

ANIME WRESTLE-VERSE: The Ultimate Cosplay Entrance Experience
Oct 31, 2026 30 8548 Lankershim Blvd, Los Angeles,…

KnokX Pro Wrestling looked at two rooms -- anime cosplay contests and wrestling entrance theater -- and decided they belonged together. ANIME WRESTLE-VERSE is what happened when a real wrestling promotion asked: what if the cosplay walk-out was the competition? On Halloween night in North Hollywood, 275 people will watch competitors enter the ring in full anime cosplay -- theme music, character energy, crowd reaction -- competing for the Anime Wrestle-Verse Championship Belt and a 750 dollar prize pool. This is not a costume contest judged on accuracy. It is judged on the entrance. On presence. On the room reaction when you walk through that curtain. Between heats: KnokX Pro wrestling matches, a live K-pop and anime DJ, a vendor floor, food, and photo ops. The full card. This is for the person who watched wrestling and thought about doing it in cosplay. Or the cosplayer who was waiting for a stage where the walk-in matters as much as the fit. October 31, 2026. Doors 7 PM. North Hollywood, Los Angeles. Tickets: 30 dollars GA. Capacity: 275. Ages 18+.

SEMA Show 2026 — Las Vegas, NV
Nov 3 – Nov 7, 2026 0 Las Vegas Convention Center, 3150 …

Somewhere on that convention floor sits a Dodge Challenger built as a tribute to a mechanic who died, a Bronco engineered for Baja with a 700-mile range, and a Toyota Tacoma so heavily modified the factory DNA has nearly vanished - and the person who built each one is standing right there, willing to explain exactly how. The SEMA Show fills a Las Vegas convention center every November: 2,000 brands, 160,000 automotive professionals, and the most elaborate custom vehicles on earth, the industry's annual argument about what cars can become. This is not rows of production vehicles under fluorescent lights. The smell of fresh paint, engine oil, and ambition is everywhere. The Specialty Equipment Market Association show exists because the aftermarket - the people who make your car yours - needs one place to show what they built this year. Whether it is worth attending depends on who you are. If you are in the automotive world at any level, SEMA Fest on Saturday, the public consumer day, is one of the most inspiring afternoons you can spend in Las Vegas: six-figure full-coverage builds sit 10 feet from you, the designers will talk to you, and the fabricators will explain how they did it. Even if you are not a car person, some of these vehicles are genuinely art, and the Battle of the Builders final is as dramatic as any competition you will watch this year. SEMA Fest is Saturday, November 7 - this is the enthusiast day; the full trade show, Tuesday through Friday, requires industry credentials. Book hotels well in advance; SEMA week fills the Strip. Parking is manageable at the Convention Center, but wear comfortable shoes - the floor is enormous. The Battle of the Builders announcement happens mid-afternoon Saturday and draws a crowd, so position yourself early. Merchandise lines and meet-and-greets with builders and YouTubers run throughout the day. Nothing else in automotive culture operates at this density of craft in a single location. For anyone who has ever looked at a stock car and imagined what it could be, SEMA Fest is the pilgrimage.

Yuki Chiba — First North American Headline Tour at Music Box San Diego
Nov 3, 2026 Music Box, 1337 India St, San Dieg…

Somewhere between city pop and shoegaze there is a room that only opens at night, and Yuki Chiba holds the key. The Japanese singer-songwriter's voice sits in the same frequency as streetlights reflecting off wet pavement — warm, a little blurred, impossible to ignore once you've noticed it. This is his first headline tour in North America, which means the room will be full of people who discovered him through playlists that autoplay at 2 AM, through anime-adjacent OSTs that hit harder than the show itself, through a friend's story that just said 'trust me.' The Music Box in Little Italy is small enough that you'll feel the bass in your chest and see the setlist taped to the monitor. This is the kind of show where the crowd is half the experience — everyone there found him the same way you did, and nobody can explain why it feels this personal. Tickets are twenty-five dollars advance, thirty at the door. Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · 8 PM · Music Box in Little Italy · 1337 India St · $25 adv / $30 door

Anime Pasadena 2026
Nov 6 – Nov 8, 2026 TBA Pasadena Convention Center, Pasade…

The thing nobody says out loud about the giant conventions is that you go for the artists and then spend the whole weekend failing to reach them. Six people deep at every table, a crowd that carries you past what you came to see, a morning of your life spent in a badge line. This is the other version. The vendor hall is the argument: importers with inventory that never appears on domestic sites, small publishers stocking titles nobody else carries, figure dealers holding real stock, and artists who skip the bigger shows entirely. The cosplay skews toward builders — people who spent months on a prop and want a room where you can actually stop and look at it. Friday evening hours let the weekend breathe instead of compressing. Three days at the Pasadena convention center, free parking, weekend passes cheap by convention standards. Send this to the friend who came back from Anime Expo saying they saw nothing.

Pacific Media Expo 2026 (PMX)
Nov 6 – Nov 8, 2026 Los Angeles Airport Marriott, 5855…

The best moment at a small convention is never on the schedule. It is the twenty minutes after a panel ends when the voice actor stays in the room and just keeps talking, because it is a small room and nobody is rushing them out. Pacific Media Expo has run on that for two decades, built by and around the people who make the work: voice actors, anime producers, manga artists, and the Southern California fans who kept the lights on. The panels put you close. The dealer room runs mainstream to deep-cut. The AMV contest is where the real showing-off happens, and the hallway gatherings between official programming are half the reason people come back year after year. It lands at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott on Century Boulevard, with the full schedule at pacificmediaexpo.com. If you would rather hear how a show got made than wait in a line for a photo, this is your convention. Send it to the one person who will understand why.

You will read a card twice at once — the mechanical text on one layer, and Picard, the Borg, a familiar ship on the other — and both hit at the same time. That double-take is what happens when Star Trek: The Next Generation arrives in Magic: The Gathering's card frame in November 2026, and TCS Rockets in Miramar is running the Prerelease weekend. Prerelease is played in the sealed format that puts every player on equal footing: six packs, no pre-built deck advantage, every game a puzzle assembled from what you opened. It is the format where experience matters less than instinct — you are building with cards you have never played, against opponents doing the same. Picard on a creature card hits different. The Borg as a mechanic lands exactly how you would expect it to. All experience levels welcome; show up knowing your Star Trek, and learn the Magic rules between packs. TCS Rockets is at 7626 Miramar Rd, Suite 3900, San Diego. See tcsrockets.com for registration and event details. The sealed kit includes six packs and a Prerelease promo with entry.

TwitchCon North America 2026
Nov 13 – Nov 15, 2026 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Your favorite streamer - the one you have watched for 3,000 hours - is probably in the building, and you can actually walk up and talk to them. That is the whole reason to go. There is a strange intimacy to a parasocial relationship built over thousands of hours of someone's voice in your headphones, and this is the one place it collapses into a real handshake. You know their cat's name. You know which of their friends you would get along with. They do not know you exist, and somehow that does not make the queue feel foolish, because everyone standing in it is carrying the same lopsided friendship and nobody here is embarrassed about it. The expo hall plays like a live streaming studio crossed with a gaming lounge: streamers broadcasting right off the floor, sub-notification sounds coming from everywhere, meet-and-greets with people who have lived in your second monitor for years. Variety Arcades, developer showcases, and cosplay competitions for game characters fill out the rest, and the whole convention is built around live streaming culture - the people who make it and the people who never miss a stream, in the same room for once. Is it worth the trip? If streaming is background noise to you, no - it will read as a trade show for a job you do not have. If a particular channel has been the thing you put on when the apartment is too quiet, then yes, unreservedly. This is the one weekend of the year when a community stops being a chat window and becomes a crowd with faces in it. What first-timers get wrong is planning around panels and missing the hall. The panels get recorded. The accidental conversation in a signing line does not. Wear shoes you can stand in all day, bring a battery, and accept that your schedule will survive roughly until lunch. TwitchCon North America 2026 returns to San Diego, September 25-27. Half the crowd stays in the city afterward, and the unofficial meetups scattered around the convention are where the rest of it actually happens.

San Diego Anime Convention 2026
Nov 13 – Nov 15, 2026 DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Die…

The conventions that last are almost never the biggest ones. They're the ones where the artist in the alley remembers your face from last year, where the panel is small enough that you can actually ask your question, where the regulars know each other's names. Four years in, this is quietly becoming one of those — a room that hasn't forgotten why people go to conventions in the first place. The DoubleTree keeps it contained in the way that works: fifty-some vendors, fifty-some artists, a layout that creates natural places to stand around and talk, and a hotel bar that fills with cosplayers once the panels let out. It has the energy of a gathering, not a production — the kind of place where you show up not knowing anyone and leave having found your corner of it. DoubleTree Mission Valley — November 13–15, 2026, three-day badges at sandiegoanimecon.com, free parking, easy from anywhere in the city. Saturday's the peak, Sunday's the long goodbye. Come in costume or don't; both belong here.

Anime Weekend Atlanta 2026 — Atlanta, GA
Nov 19 – Nov 22, 2026 Georgia World Congress Center, Bui…

The American South's longest-running anime convention has been meeting in Atlanta every September since 1997. Anime Weekend Atlanta is where the Southeast's anime fandom comes to recognize itself. Walk the AWA floor on a Thursday night and the energy hits immediately: cosplayers in elaborate handmade builds line the escalators, artist alley tables overflow with original prints and fan art, and the programming halls pulse with AMVs, panel debates, and late-night gaming tournaments that run until 3 AM. The dealers room is legitimately staggering — vintage merchandise, imports, rare figures, and indie creators all packed into a space where you could spend a full day and still miss things. The masquerade on Saturday night is one of the most theatrical cosplay competitions in the country, drawing contestants who have spent months on a single build. AWA moves differently than the mega-cons: it feels less like a trade show and more like a reunion — because for thousands of attendees, it genuinely is. If you grew up watching anime in the South and never found your people, AWA is the answer. This is not for casual fans who think anime is just Naruto and Dragon Ball. It is for people who obsess over seasonal charts, debate subculture lore, and have a hard drive full of unfinished cosplay plans. First-timers frequently describe AWA as the con that finally felt like home. If you are that person — the one who learned Japanese from subtitles and named a pet after a character — this is worth every flight mile. Book your hotel at the World Congress Center Marriott before August or it will sell out — AWA attendees treat the hotel block as sacred and it fills months in advance. Badge pickup lines on Thursday afternoon are brutal; opt for pre-registration and arrive before noon. The dealers room has no ATMs inside — bring cash, bring more than you think you need, and budget for at least one impulse figure you did not plan for. The programming schedule releases about six weeks before the event and fills fast; panel rooms cap out, so plan your must-see events 30 minutes early. The loading dock area outside Building C is where the best spontaneous cosplay photo shoots happen after dark. It is the convention that proved the South has always had its own thriving fan culture — it just needed a room big enough to hold it. AWA 2026 runs November 19-22 at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building C, Atlanta. The Southern con circuit keeps going the rest of the year in far smaller hotels, and the same people build costumes for all of it.

The hotel lobby at midnight is where the real convention happens. Someone brought a Switch, someone else brought a projector, and a group of strangers who met four hours ago are playing like they have known each other since middle school. San Diego LAN runs alongside the San Diego Anime Convention at the DoubleTree in Mission Valley, with Saturday and Sunday sessions from 11 AM to 6 PM, mixing strategy and FPS titles with a house party feel that competitive gaming lost somewhere along the way. VR stations, board games, and video games spanning every genre and generation fill the game room at a volume that makes you forget there is an anime convention happening in the next ballroom. This is not a tournament with spectators — it is a living room that happens to hold a hundred people who all brought their own controllers. Fear Factory with Darkest Hour and Brotality
Nov 27, 2026 $33 The Glass House, 200 W 2nd St, Pom…

Machines were going to take over long before the headlines caught up, and Fear Factory has been scoring that dread since 1989 — industrial metal built like an assembly line, riffs that chug like pistons, clean-sung choruses fighting through a wall of mechanized rage. Their whole catalog is a warning about man versus machine, and three decades on it lands harder than ever, which is its own bleak joke. This is a night for the metal faithful who like their heaviness with a concept and a spine, with modern metalcore crew Darkest Hour and openers Brotality bringing the newer blood. The Glass House in Pomona gets loud enough to rattle fillings. Friday, November 27, 2026, doors 7pm, all ages. Come let a wall of industrial precision pummel the holiday stress out of you, with a crowd that has been showing up for this sound since before half the room was born. Hostile: Benda B2B Vastive
Nov 27, 2026 The Vermont, 1020 N Vermont Ave, L…

Back-to-back sets are the only format in electronic music that is genuinely unrepeatable. Two people trading records in real time, each trying to answer what the other just did, means the night cannot be rehearsed and has never happened before and will not happen again in that order. When it goes well the crowd can hear the argument. Hostile runs bass nights at a small East Hollywood room and has built a reputation on booking exactly this — pairings rather than headliners. Putting Benda and Vastive on one deck for a long stretch is a deliberate choice about texture; both work the heavier, more mechanical end of dubstep, so rather than contrast you get escalation. The room is the other half of it. The Vermont holds a couple hundred people, which for bass music is the correct number — sub frequencies in a large hall dissipate, and in a small one they are structural. You feel the set in your ribs rather than hear it. Nine PM to two AM on Friday November 27, the night after Thanksgiving, which is historically the best-attended and worst-organized night of anyone's year. This one is organized. Anime Frontier 2026 — Fort Worth, TX
Dec 4, 2026 Fort Worth Convention Center, 1201…

There is a convention center in Fort Worth where, for three days every December, the cowboys and the cosplayers share the same sidewalk — and nobody blinks, because Texas has always been bigger than any one identity. Anime Frontier returns to the Fort Worth Convention Center December 4–6, 2026, for three days of premieres, panels, and special appearances from some of the biggest names in anime and manga. Presented by Crunchyroll, Anime Frontier has carved out a space that the East Coast cons like Anime NYC and Otakon and West Coast cons like Anime Expo do not cover — the entire middle of the country, where anime fandom runs just as deep but the nearest major convention used to be a 12-hour drive. The convention has grown rapidly since its launch, filling a geographic gap that the anime community had been complaining about for years. The exhibitor hall and artist alley bring together hundreds of vendors, from official merch drops to independent artists whose work you will only find at cons like this. The programming runs from industry panels and world premieres to cosplay showcases and community meetups, and the scale is big enough to feel like a real convention without the crushing density of a 100K-attendance mega-con. New for 2026 is a Kids Sunday ticket and a dedicated Family Zone presented by Scholastic — a signal that Anime Frontier is building for the next generation of fans, not just serving the current one. If you are an anime fan in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, or anywhere in the central United States, Anime Frontier is the con that finally means you do not have to fly to a coast. If you are a veteran con-goer from either coast, Fort Worth offers something the big cons cannot — a manageable size, walkable downtown hotels and restaurants, and the Texas hospitality that makes out-of-towners want to come back every year. Tickets include single-day and 3-day badges, with Premium AF passes for extra access and perks. Ordering by October 23 gets your badge shipped before the event. Fort Worth in December is mild enough for outdoor cosplay without the summer heat that plagues most anime cons. The convention center is downtown, walkable to dozens of restaurants and bars, and the whole experience feels like a community gathering rather than a corporate expo. For the anime community in the middle of America, Anime Frontier is no longer the new con — it is the home con.

Collect-A-Con Los Angeles
Dec 19, 2026 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Everyone who collected anything as a kid still has the box they never threw out. This is a thousand dealer tables of other people's boxes. What separates Collect-A-Con from an ordinary card show is that it refuses to treat anime as a side room — graded Pokémon slabs, One Piece singles, vintage Yu-Gi-Oh and a full cosplay crowd all move through the same hall at the same volume, and the organizers bill it as the largest trading card, anime and pop culture convention in the country. The December edition changes the character of the room in a way the summer dates never do: it lands in the dead week before Christmas, so a real share of the floor is people hunting a gift for the one person on their list who is impossible to buy for, and the rest are people spending gift money a few days early and not pretending otherwise. Two days, ten to five, at the Convention Center downtown. Saturday and Sunday, December 19 and 20.

Pasadena Holiday Tournament of Roses House Tour 2026
Dec 26 – Dec 30, 2026 Pasadena, CA 91103

Everyone watches the floats roll down Colorado Boulevard on New Year's morning. Almost nobody sees the wire skeleton underneath, or the volunteers on scaffolding placing individual flowers by hand in the cold days beforehand. The Decorating Facilities Walk gets you into the barns while the floats are half-finished, which is the only state in which you truly understand them. Every surface is organic material, seeds and petals and bark, glued on one piece at a time until an image resolves out of it, and the more of that process you watch the more absurd and moving the finished parade becomes. The association behind all of it has been running the parade since the eighteen-nineties, and its house on Orange Grove opens for tours as well. Pasadena in December, in the last weeks before the first, tickets through the association. Go once and you will never watch the parade the same way again. Equestfest 2027
Dec 29, 2026 $20 Los Angeles Equestrian Center, 480…

You have seen the horses on New Year's morning and you have never once seen them up close. They pass in a blur of silver saddle and braided mane somewhere between a marching band and a float made of seaweed, and then they are gone and the broadcast cuts to a commercial. The horses get a day of their own, three days early, in Burbank. Charro riders work the reata. Escaramuza teams ride sidesaddle in formation at a gallop, which is the sort of thing you have to watch twice to believe. Drill teams thread patterns that only make sense from the top of the bleachers. Trick riders do the thing where they go under the horse. What makes it worth the drive is the part the parade cannot show you: the barn area, where the animals stand around being enormous and patient while riders in full regalia adjust tack and argue about nothing. There is a vendor court and food. December 29, ten in the morning until three.

Some knowledge you cannot buy: which panels are worth lining up an hour early for, which guest signings empty out fast, which late-night rooms never make it onto the printed schedule. Regulars hand that down to each other here, and it is the real inheritance of a convention that has been meeting for over two decades. The tradeoff for running smaller than Anime Expo is access. The show that rearranged you at fourteen, the character you still think about on bad days — you mention it at work in a careful voice, already braced for the blank look. Then you walk into a hall on the Pomona fairgrounds in January and the blank look never comes. Somebody clocks your jacket from thirty feet out. A stranger finishes a line you only started. What surprises first-timers is how much of the floor is working artists rather than merch tables. The alley is where the real conversations happen, and whoever sells you a print stayed up arguing about that same ending you did. It takes over the grounds that hold the county fair, so there is room to breathe between the cosplay and the cafe tables. Two days, doors at ten, halls loud until seven. Katsucon 2027 — National Harbor, MD
Feb 12, 2027 Gaylord National Resort & Conventi…

There is a photograph you have seen without knowing where it came from: someone in an elaborate costume standing on a marble staircase under an eighteen-story glass atrium, winter light coming through, looking like a still from a film that was never made. That is Katsucon, and the building is most of the reason it has the reputation it does. Held every February at the Gaylord National Resort on the Potomac just outside Washington, it is among the most photographed anime conventions in the world, and the cosplay community treats a weekend there as something closer to a pilgrimage than a trip. The atrium is the event. Other conventions have panels and dealers and artist alleys, and Katsucon has those too, but what actually happens is that thousands of people spend three days building and wearing things they worked on since summer, and then the building gives them the best backdrop in North America to be seen in. Photographers book months ahead. There are impromptu gatherings by series on the staircases at all hours. Because the whole thing is under one roof and the weather outside is February in Maryland, the convention never really stops — the hallways at three in the morning are as busy as the floor at noon. Worth it? If you make things — sew, foam-smith, wig-style, prop-build — this is the room where that labor is understood without explanation, and there is no substitute for that. If you are coming to shop or to meet voice actors, other conventions do that better and cheaper. Katsucon is for the makers and the people who love watching them, and it is honest about that. First-timers who come without a costume routinely report it was still the best convention they had been to, because the spectacle is genuinely free to watch. What to know: the host hotel sells out almost immediately, and staying on-site is materially different from staying off — the atrium at night is the whole point. Budget for that. Bring a repair kit; something will break. The convention center portion and the hotel portion are connected but the walk is longer than it looks in costume. And Friday is the quiet day worth arriving for. It earns a place here because it is the clearest example in American fandom of a venue and a community finding each other perfectly, and because knowing it exists changes what you think a costume is for. Katsucon 2027 runs February 12–14, 2027 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, National Harbor, Maryland.

Mar 13 – Mar 14, 2027 Pasadena Convention Center, 300 E …

The panels are the reason to go, which is not a sentence anyone gets to say honestly about most conventions. Blame the geography. This corner of the city sits within a few miles of Caltech, JPL, and the studios, which produces a fan base that reads closely, argues in specifics, and will not let a guest coast through a Q and A. The questions are better here. Everybody notices it eventually. The rest is the good stuff done properly: voice actor panels and signings, a cosplay competition judged on actual craftsmanship, an artist alley of independent creators selling original work, a vendor hall, and a game room running open play all weekend. Old Town is the other half of the argument — you walk out for real dinner instead of eating a pretzel over a trash can, and the Gold Line puts you a few blocks off. Bring the friend who takes the craftsmanship judging personally. They will find their people inside of an hour.

Sakura-Con 2027 — Seattle, WA
Mar 26, 2027 Seattle Convention Center, 705 Pik…

The oldest and largest anime convention in the Pacific Northwest was started by a group of college students in the mid-nineties, back when liking this at all required explaining yourself, and it is still run entirely by volunteers. That fact shapes everything about the weekend. Nobody is extracting margin from you. The programming is built by people who wanted it to exist rather than by a department, which is why the schedule is full of things no commercial convention would ever green-light. What that produces is a convention with an unusually high proportion of actual content — panels running past midnight, a serious concert program, a masquerade that people prepare for over months, and a video programming track that still shows things on a screen in a dark room to whoever wanders in. There is a formal ball. There is a chess tournament. The dealer hall is large but is not the center of gravity, which at an anime convention in the current era is genuinely unusual. The crowd skews younger than the older-guard conventions and the atmosphere is closer to a very large school event than to a trade show, in the best possible way. Worth it? If you want a convention where the programming rather than the shopping is the reason to be there, this is one of a handful left in the country, and it is the best of them on the West Coast outside of Los Angeles. If you are coming primarily for big-name industry announcements, the larger shows will serve you better. Sakura-Con is for people who want to spend three days inside the thing rather than adjacent to it. What to know before you go: registration opens early and the price ladder rewards buying well ahead. Late March in Seattle means rain, and the walk between the convention center and most hotels is short but unsheltered. The concerts are included with a badge and fill up, so line early for the ones you care about. Bring cash for artist alley. And the volunteer staff will genuinely help you if you ask, because they are attendees too. It belongs on this list because a thirty-year-old, volunteer-run, still-thriving convention is evidence that a community can build something durable without anyone monetizing it, and that is worth knowing exists. Sakura-Con 2027 runs March 26–28, 2027 at the Seattle Convention Center.

Star Wars Celebration 2027 — Los Angeles Convention Center
Every day · Next Apr 1 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Fifty years ago a farm boy looked up at twin suns and a generation learned what longing sounds like. Star Wars Celebration returns to Los Angeles on April 1–4, 2027, to mark the 50th anniversary of the film that changed everything. This is the gathering where Lucasfilm pulls back the curtain — world premieres of upcoming projects, panels with the creators who are building the next chapters, first looks at footage that won't exist anywhere else for months. The show floor spans the LA Convention Center with walk-through exhibits, a cosplay showcase that draws the most ambitious builders on the planet, exclusive merchandise that sells out before lunch, and the collective energy of tens of thousands of people who all trace something essential about who they are back to that same opening crawl. The 50th anniversary makes this one different. Half a century of stories, characters, music, and moments that shaped how an entire culture thinks about heroism, redemption, and the distance between who you are and who you could be. Whether you've been here since 1977 or discovered it last year, Celebration is the room where every version of that journey is valid. What makes Star Wars Celebration unlike any other fan convention is that it is the only place where the future of the franchise is revealed first. Every major announcement — from The Mandalorian's debut trailer to Ahsoka's first footage to the reveal of new theatrical films — happened at Celebration before it happened anywhere else. The industry comes because Lucasfilm treats this room as the premiere venue. The fans come because they've been part of this story longer than most relationships in their lives. Expect four full days of programming: the headline showcase at the Honda Center (separate ticket tier), hundreds of panels across multiple stages, the Fan Stage where cosplayers and community creators take the spotlight, interactive experiences that put you inside the worlds of the saga, and the Artist Alley where illustrators who shaped the visual language of Star Wars sell original work. Four-day adult passes from $260.99. Children 4–12 from $105.99. Los Angeles Convention Center. April 1–4, 2027. The anniversary year has screenings and smaller gatherings running all through it, and the people in this room will be at those too.

Shinzo wo Sasageyo. If reading that raised something in your chest, you already know why this matters, and you can stop reading right here. For everyone else: this score did an enormous amount of the emotional work in a story about impossible choices, and until now there has never been an officially licensed orchestral performance of it anywhere on earth. Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto curated new symphonic arrangements for more than a hundred musicians and a full choir, with the series projected on a giant screen behind them, so the whole arc runs while the music that scored it fills a real room instead of your headphones. There is a particular thing that happens when a live choir comes in on music you have only ever heard compressed through earbuds at one in the morning. It is not subtle. Hollywood, a proper theater, one night only. Dedicated to the hearts. Bring the person you watched the last season with — the one who still refuses to discuss the ending.

The first piano notes land and a theater full of strangers stops breathing at the same instant, because every one of them carried this story home years ago and never quite put it down. This is the officially licensed orchestral concert, with new symphonic arrangements curated by the original composers, Hiroyuki Sawano and Kohta Yamamoto, played by more than a hundred musicians and a choir while projection scales the series up to the size it always deserved. Shinzo wo Sasageyo in a room like that stops being a song. It is a full theater offering up its hearts for a freedom none of them were ever sure existed, out loud, most of them in a language they do not speak. The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with tickets through Ticketmaster. If you have been waiting for the day this music became something you could stand inside, it is finally on a calendar.

PAX East 2027 — Boston, MA
Apr 22, 2027 Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhi…

Video games are played alone in a room by almost everybody, almost all of the time, and once a year a few tens of thousands of people who do that go stand in a convention hall in Boston to be reminded it is not actually a solitary hobby. That is the whole emotional mechanism of PAX East and it is more powerful than the announcements and the demo queues suggest. The floor is enormous and loud. Major publishers build elaborate booths for games nobody has played yet, and the lines for those can eat an afternoon — but the part regulars organize their weekend around is the indie section, where a person who spent four years making something is standing behind a folding table watching you play it. That interaction does not exist anywhere else. Elsewhere in the building there are freeplay areas with hundreds of consoles and PCs, a tabletop hall running around the clock, tournaments, concerts, and a handheld lounge where people simply sit on the floor together playing separately, which is somehow the most affecting room in the place. The Enforcers — volunteer staff in distinctive shirts — set a tone of aggressive friendliness that keeps a very large crowd unusually pleasant. Worth it? If games are a real part of your identity rather than a way to pass time, yes, and specifically for the indie hall and the freeplay rooms rather than the big booths. If you only want to see trailers, they will be online within the hour and you can watch them from your couch. What you cannot get remotely is the experience of being one of thousands of people who all care about the same thing, in a city that has been overtaken by it for four days. What to know: badges sell out months in advance and the four-day pass goes first. Wear real shoes; you will walk many miles on concrete. The convention center is a walk from most affordable hotels, and Boston in April can be anything from snow to seventy degrees. Eat before you get inside. And the queue room system means the smart move is picking two or three big demos and letting the rest go. It is on this list because the annual gathering of a hobby that is otherwise entirely private is a genuinely interesting cultural event, whether or not you go. PAX East 2027 runs April 22–25, 2027 at the Thomas M. Menino Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston.

Awesome Con 2027 — Washington, DC
Apr 23, 2027 Walter E. Washington Convention Ce…

Washington takes itself extremely seriously fifty-one weekends a year, and once each spring several tens of thousands of people in costume take over its convention center and the effect is genuinely restorative. Awesome Con is the capital's pop culture convention, and its particular character comes from the city it happens in: there is a substantial science track built with the Smithsonian and NASA sitting directly alongside the comics and the film guests, and it does not feel bolted on. What that produces is a convention where a nine-year-old can go from a panel by an actual planetary scientist to a line for a voice actor without leaving the building, and where the crowd is noticeably more family-heavy and more racially mixed than most large cons. The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is enormous and easy to move around, which matters more than people expect — there is room to sit, room to eat, room for kids to melt down and recover. Artist alley is strong. The cosplay is competitive without being cliquish. And because it is April in Washington, the city outside is at its best; a lot of attendees build a weekend around the museums, which are free. Worth it? If you have children who are into any of this, it is one of the best large conventions in the country for that, and the science programming is a genuine differentiator rather than a marketing line. If you are a hardcore collector chasing exclusives, the bigger coastal shows have deeper inventory. Awesome Con is broad rather than deep, and that breadth is the point. What to know before you go: the convention center sits on top of a Metro station, so do not drive — parking downtown is punitive and the trains run late. Badges are cheaper in advance and children's pricing is generous. Saturday is by far the busiest day; Friday and Sunday are calmer and better for actually talking to artists. Bring a bag for prints. And if you are traveling in, the museums a few blocks away mean the non-convention hours are unusually well spent. It is on this list because a convention that treats curiosity and fandom as the same impulse is a rarer thing than it should be, and because a weekend where the most self-serious city in America lets go is worth knowing about. Awesome Con 2027 runs April 23–25, 2027 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

C2E2 2027 — Chicago, IL
Apr 30, 2027 McCormick Place, 2301 S King Dr, C…

Chicago spent years being treated as a stop rather than a destination on the convention circuit, and the show that changed that did it by being unusually good at the unglamorous parts — floor layout, panel scheduling, actually letting people talk to creators. C2E2 has grown into the Midwest's flagship pop culture convention, held each spring at McCormick Place on the lakefront, and it now draws six figures of attendance across a weekend. The experience is defined by scale plus air. McCormick Place is one of the largest convention buildings in North America, which means that even at peak Saturday the floor does not have the crushing quality that smaller venues develop. The artist alley and the comics guests are substantial, the anime and gaming presence has grown considerably, and the cosplay championship is a serious competitive event rather than a costume parade. What regulars single out is the programming: panels here are frequently craft-focused and long enough to get somewhere, and the moderators generally know the material. There is also a genuinely good kids' area, which makes it workable as a family weekend rather than a thing one parent does alone. Is it worth it? If you live anywhere in the middle of the country, this is your show and there is no real competitor — the alternative is flying to a coast. If you already attend two or three large conventions a year on the coasts, C2E2 will feel familiar rather than revelatory, though the artist lineup is consistently strong. It is best understood as the most complete general-purpose fan convention between the coasts. What to know: McCormick Place is not downtown and the walk from most hotels is longer than the map suggests; use the shuttles or plan for a train. Chicago in late April can be forty degrees and windy off the lake regardless of what the forecast promised. Food inside is expensive and mediocre — eat before or walk to the south loop. Buy exclusives Friday morning or accept you will not get them. And the smaller press tables at the back of artist alley are where the finds are. It belongs here because a healthy convention in the middle of the country is a real indicator about where fandom lives, and it is not only on the coasts. C2E2 2027 runs April 30 – May 2, 2027 at McCormick Place.

Anime Central 2027 — Rosemont, IL
May 14, 2027 Donald E. Stephens Convention Cent…

Before anime was something you could explain at work, a few thousand people started meeting once a year in a suburb next to O'Hare airport to watch subtitled tapes and argue about them. Three decades on, Anime Central is the largest anime convention in the Midwest, still in Rosemont, still fundamentally shaped by having been built by fans rather than by a company. The thing that makes it distinctive is the hotel geography. The convention center connects by covered walkway to several large hotels, and because Rosemont is a small municipality that exists mostly to serve the airport, the convention effectively takes over the entire area for a weekend. That produces the phenomenon regulars talk about most: the con does not close. Room parties, hallway gatherings, impromptu dance circles, people in costume getting food at two in the morning at the same handful of restaurants. The formal programming is strong — a large dealers hall, a serious artist alley, concerts, a masquerade that people train for — but the actual memory people carry out is of the hours between the scheduled things. Worth it? If you want a large anime convention with a genuine all-night social culture, this is one of the best in the country and the walkway layout is a real structural advantage over conventions where you have to cross a city at midnight. If you want polished, corporate-run programming and major industry announcements, the coastal shows are bigger. ACen is scrappier and warmer. What to know before you go: book a connected hotel the moment rooms open, because being on the walkway versus off it changes the entire weekend. Rosemont has its own train stop on the blue line, so you can fly in and never rent a car. May in Chicago is unpredictable and the walkways mean you may never need a coat. Bring cash for artist alley. And the panel rooms fill fast for anything popular, so queue rather than wander. It is on this list because a thirty-year-old fan-built institution that still runs on its own social energy is a genuinely interesting thing to know exists, whether or not you ever fly to Illinois for it. Anime Central 2027 runs May 14–16, 2027 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont.

MEGACON Orlando 2027 — Orlando, FL
May 20, 2027 Orange County Convention Center, 9…

The largest fan convention in the southeastern United States happens in a city already built entirely around manufactured wonder, which could have made it redundant and instead makes it a useful contrast — this is the weekend when Orlando's fantasy is assembled by the people attending rather than sold to them. MEGACON has grown into a four-day event at the Orange County Convention Center drawing well over a hundred thousand people. What it is, practically, is enormous and unusually broad. Comics, anime, gaming, horror, science fiction and a large celebrity guest roster all sit under one roof, and the show has leaned hard into fan-built spectacle: costume contests with real production value, a substantial number of large-scale prop and vehicle builds, and an artist alley that has become one of the bigger ones in the country. Because Florida draws attendees from across the Southeast and the Caribbean, the crowd composition is different from the coastal shows — younger on average, more family groups, and noticeably more first-timers, which gives the floor an enthusiasm that jaded convention veterans find slightly startling. Worth it? If you live anywhere in the Southeast, this is the show, and the guest list alone usually justifies it. If you are traveling from far away specifically for it, the honest answer is that the convention is excellent but the surrounding city will absorb your budget fast, so plan for that deliberately rather than accidentally. It is not the show for deep comics scholarship; it is the show for scale, spectacle and meeting people whose work you know from a screen. What to know: the Orange County Convention Center is vast and the two buildings are a real walk apart, so check your hall. Autograph and photo op tickets sell separately and the popular ones go early. Florida in May is hot and the walk from parking is unshaded. Bring water; there are refill stations. And the Thursday preview day is significantly calmer if your badge covers it. It sits on this list because a hundred thousand people building their own spectacle in the shadow of the world's most engineered one is a genuinely interesting thing to know is happening. MEGACON Orlando 2027 runs May 20–23, 2027 at the Orange County Convention Center.

MomoCon 2027 — Atlanta, GA
May 27, 2027 Georgia World Congress Center, 285…

A convention that started as a one-day free event on a college campus and grew into a four-day gathering of tens of thousands keeps something from that origin that money cannot buy: it is still noticeably run by people who are the audience. MomoCon happens each Memorial Day weekend at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta, and it covers anime, gaming, animation and comics with an unusually strong emphasis on the industry side of animation. The distinguishing feature is the volume of actual working professionals — animators, voice actors, studio staff — doing panels that are about how the work gets made rather than about promoting a release. Atlanta has become a genuine production city, and the convention benefits from that proximity. Alongside it sits one of the larger convention gaming setups in the country: a tabletop hall, a big freeplay arcade and console area, and esports tournaments running the whole weekend. Cosplay is central and the crowd skews young, energetic and heavily costumed. Memorial Day weekend means an extra day, and the extra day changes the pace considerably — there is time to do things properly rather than sprinting. Worth it? If you are interested in animation as a craft and a career, this is one of the best conventions in the country for that specific reason, and the access to working professionals is unusually good. If you are primarily a collector, the dealer hall is solid but not a destination. It is a maker's and a player's convention more than a buyer's. What to know: downtown Atlanta hotels connected to or near the convention center fill first and the walk matters in May humidity. The badge covers the gaming halls, which many first-timers do not realize until Sunday. Panels about breaking into animation fill up an hour early. Parking downtown is expensive; the MARTA station is close. And the four-day format means Thursday is genuinely worth arriving for. It is here because a convention where the people who make the thing talk honestly about making it is rarer than it should be, and knowing that room exists is useful whether or not you ever sit in it. MomoCon 2027 runs May 27–30, 2027 at the Georgia World Congress Center.

May 28, 2027 Ambitious Ales, Long Beach, CA

Everyone at your table is painting the same scene and every canvas is going to come out different, and at some point somebody will say it's over nine thousand and the whole room will groan and not one person will actually be annoyed. That is the appeal. A fan-organized paint night with an instructor walking the room, a predetermined anime subject, and every material handed to you, so the barrier is zero — you do not need to be able to draw, and nobody is judging the proportions on your Goku. What you leave with is a thing you made and a table of people who needed none of it explained. The brewery in Long Beach keeps the beer and the food coming, cosplay is fair game, and these sell through ahead of time. Bring the friend who insists they cannot draw. There is a real pride in a room full of people from Riverside, San Bernardino, Temecula and Redlands who finally did not have to leave home to find each other. Hundreds of competitors, judged on craft and on performance, and the noise when a build lands is unlike anything else all weekend. Saturday is the peak of the whole convention. The biggest announcements come out on Saturday. The panel halls hit capacity on Saturday. Everyone chases the opening days — the announcements, the premieres, the Hall H-sized adrenaline. The people who know AX chase the last one. Sunday is when the world's largest anime convention exhales: the lines go short, the floor slows down, and the conversations finally stop being shouted between panels and start being real. It's also the day the floor gets generous. Artist Alley cuts prices to clear the table, exhibitors let exclusive merch go at a discount, and the Closing Ceremonies — the weekend cosplay recap, the Masquerade awards, the official goodbye — mark the moment four days of strangers become the community that'll wait a whole year to reassemble. Day 4 badges are the easiest to find on resale and the most underrated ticket of the convention. And in 2027 the finale lands on the Fourth of July, with fireworks visible from parts of the LACC plaza depending on which way they launch. Anime NYC 2027 — New York, NY
Aug 26, 2027 Jacob K. Javits Convention Center,…

New York went without a major anime convention for an embarrassingly long time given how many people there wanted one, and when it finally arrived it grew faster than almost any convention in American history. Anime NYC now fills the Javits Center on the far west side of Manhattan and has become the East Coast's largest anime event, with the industry treating it as a genuine announcement platform rather than a regional stop. What separates it from the older conventions is that it feels like it belongs to the city rather than to a hotel complex. Attendees spill into Hell's Kitchen and midtown between panels; the after-hours culture happens in restaurants and karaoke rooms rather than in hotel hallways. Inside, the industry presence is unusually heavy — Japanese publishers and studios send real delegations, there are manga creators doing signings who rarely leave Japan, and the concert programming has brought over acts that had never played the United States. The dealers hall is large and the artist alley is genuinely excellent, benefiting from the density of illustrators who already live within a train ride. Is it worth it? If you follow manga and the industry side of anime rather than only the shows, this is the best convention in the country for you, because the guests are the people who actually make it. If you want a warm, sprawling, all-night fan convention, the hotel-based cons in the Midwest and Maryland do that better — Javits closes and you go out into Manhattan, which is a different experience and an expensive one. What to know before you go: badges sell out, sometimes months ahead, and there is no walk-up. Javits is a long avenue walk from the nearest subway; budget the time. Late August in New York is hot and humid and the costume math should account for that. Ticketed signings are allocated by lottery — enter early. And eat outside the building; you are in one of the best food cities on earth. It earns a place here because the speed at which it grew is the clearest single piece of evidence about how large this audience actually became, and that is worth knowing even from across the country. Anime NYC 2027 runs August 26–29, 2027 at the Javits Center.
