Los Angeles isn't one city — it's forty neighborhoods that happen to share a freeway. Nobody 'does LA.' You pick a corner of it and go deep: the taco truck that only makes sense at midnight, the canyon trail that empties the whole city out below you, the market downtown where you eat your way around the world in one lunch. It rewards the specific and punishes the checklist. Don't try to see it all. Find your neighborhood and let it be yours for the day.

A day in Los Angeles

Nobody does all of LA in a day — but you can do one good arc across it. Here's a local's route, morning to close, with the address for each.

Morning Start high and early, before the heat and the traffic wake up.
Runyon Canyon
Runyon Canyon

This is about Runyon. Early, right now, before the sun turns the trail to an oven, half of Hollywood is already up there sweating out the week — and ten minutes up the fire road the whole basin cracks open beneath them: the endless grid, the haze going gold, a city so big it stops being a place and turns into a feeling. That's the payoff, and it only exists in the first cool hour. Those are your people, the ones already climbing. Every one of them had a reason to stay in bed. They came anyway, and they're the ones at the top with the whole city at their feet. You don't need Runyon for exercise. You need it for the ten minutes where LA makes sense. The trail's identical next week — that's not the variable. The variable is whether you're on it, or still telling yourself you'll go some morning. Some morning is this morning. Get up. Beat the sun. Go.

What you're getting into
  • Hike the 2.6-mile loop to the Clouds Rest overlook
  • The big off-leash dog run
  • Fuller stairs past the old Errol Flynn estate ruins
  • Hollywood Blvd shops, five minutes downhill
  • Coffee along Hollywood and La Brea after
Hike to the Hollywood Sign
Hike to the Hollywood Sign

This is about the hike up to the Sign. You've looked at those nine white letters your whole life — on postcards, in the opening shot of a hundred movies, through a car window on the 101 — and never once stood underneath them. That's the strange little gap I want to close this morning. Go early, up Canyon Drive before the heat and the crowd: four miles of fire road switchbacking up the back of Griffith, and near the top the whole basin drops away behind you and the Sign stops being a logo and turns into a fifty-foot thing you could almost reach out and touch. Your people up there are the early ones — the few who wanted it without the mob, sweating out the climb instead of shooting it with a long lens from a parking lot. The cost is one early alarm and a bottle of water. By ten it's a slow parade of selfie sticks. Go stand under the most famous sign on earth before the city wakes up and remembers it's there. Go.

What you're getting into
  • Mt. Lee summit — the ridge directly behind the letters
  • Bronson Caves (the 'Batcave'), a short spur off the trail
  • Griffith Observatory & planetarium, a short drive
  • The LA Zoo and the Autry Museum, both in Griffith Park
  • Los Feliz Village after: the Vista Theatre, taco spots
The Getty Center
The Getty Center

This is about the Getty. You've decided art isn't your thing, so let me take the art off the table entirely. Go for the tram that lifts you up out of the traffic until the whole city drops away. Go for the pale travertine and the gardens that don't seem to belong to LA at all and the view of the entire basin from the top of the hill. Go because it's free — you only ever pay to park — and because you come back down every single time feeling like a slightly better-made version of yourself, and you didn't look at one painting to get there. Your people up there aren't art people; they wanted a few hours that felt bigger than their week and found the cheapest way in the city to buy it. The Getty is the rare place that works on the people who think it's not for them. Doors open, tram running, right now. Go feel like the better version for an afternoon. Go.

What you're getting into
  • Ride the free tram up the hillside
  • Robert Irwin's Central Garden maze
  • Van Gogh's 'Irises' in the galleries
  • Picnic the lawns over the 405
  • The Skirball Cultural Center, ten minutes away
Afternoon Come down the hill — eat, wander, and end up at the water.
Grand Central Market
Grand Central Market

This is about Grand Central Market. Right now, under one roof downtown, a hundred years of the city is eating lunch — neon buzzing, steam off a dozen counters, a line at the taco stall and the egg sandwich place and the one you've never heard of that's probably the best. All of LA pressed into one loud, glorious room. The thing you'll eat near home instead, you've already forgotten — that's the honest comparison. Not closer versus farther. Forgettable versus a meal you'll actually tell someone about. Your people there understood lunch can be an event if you drive twenty minutes for it, and they never skip the longest line, because the longest line is usually the point. It's been happening for a century and a parking garage is the whole cost of admission. Skip the sad desk lunch. Drive down and eat your way around the world. Go.

What you're getting into
  • Eggslut, Ramen Hood, and a century of food stalls
  • Ride the Angels Flight funicular across the street
  • The Bradbury Building's iron atrium next door
  • The Last Bookstore, two blocks south
  • Walt Disney Concert Hall, an 8-minute walk
Hollywood Walk of Fame
Hollywood Walk of Fame

This is about the Walk of Fame — and yeah, it's a trap. Grimy, tacky, wall-to-wall tourists, and you should still do it once, on purpose, eyes open. Stand on the boulevard fifteen minutes and feel it: every dreamer who ever stepped off a Greyhound onto that sidewalk, dead certain this was the street where it finally happens for them. The whole city runs on that particular delusion and you've never once stood in the middle of it. Your people here, weirdly, are everyone — the whole busload of believers. You go once so you've touched the myth, then get on with the real LA and never go back. It costs fifteen minutes and a little of your dignity. Skipping it forever isn't taste — it's avoidance dressed up as taste. Duck into the TCL courtyard for the handprints while you're there. Go get it out of your system, today, not someday. Go.

What you're getting into
  • Match the handprints in the TCL Chinese Theatre forecourt
  • Catch an IMAX premiere at TCL
  • The Dolby Theatre, home of the Oscars
  • Madame Tussauds wax figures next door
  • Shop and eat at the Ovation Hollywood complex
Santa Monica Pier
Santa Monica Pier

This is about the Pier. It's crowded, a little cheap, and you're already halfway to talking yourself out of it — which means you're about to be too cool for the exact thing you came to California for. Right now the Ferris wheel is turning against the Pacific and the whole coast is going amber, the end of Route 66 and the edge of the continent in the same gust of salt air. That's not beneath you. That is a day at the LA beach. Your people out there are the ones who let themselves have it — rode the cheesy wheel, ate the bad churro, stood at the rail as the light went. Ride it, then rent a bike and head south to Venice where the real day keeps going. You can spend the evening being above it all, or you can spend it in it — and only one of those has an ocean in it. The light's going right now. Go get on the wheel. Go.

What you're getting into
  • Ride the solar Pacific Wheel at Pacific Park
  • The official Route 66 'End of the Trail' sign
  • Midway games and the West Coaster
  • Rent bikes on the Marvin Braude beach path
  • Third Street Promenade shops, ten minutes up
Venice Beach Boardwalk
Venice Beach Boardwalk

This is about the Venice Boardwalk. You've heard it's dirty and weird and a little unhinged, and you're using all three as reasons to stay away — when they're the whole reason to go. Two miles of oceanfront concrete where nothing's curated and nobody's performing for a brand: a guy playing electric guitar on roller skates, bodybuilders grunting at the original Muscle Beach, kids dropping into the skate bowl, fortune tellers, murals painted over every week, incense and funnel cake and the Pacific throwing itself at the sand fifty feet away. It's the last stretch of Los Angeles nobody ever polished or sponsored or turned into content. Your people down there are the ones who came to watch the whole human parade and let it be strange around them, instead of deciding they were above it. It's free — it's always been free — and the only cost is parking and a little of your composure. Rent a beach cruiser and ride the entire two miles of glorious chaos. Go see the city with its makeup off. Go.

What you're getting into
  • The original Muscle Beach outdoor gym
  • Venice Skate Park, right on the sand
  • Abbot Kinney shops & restaurants, a few blocks inland
  • The Venice Canals, five minutes south
  • Bike north to the Santa Monica Pier or south to the Marina
Golden hour Get above the city as the light goes — the hour LA saves for its best trick.
Griffith Observatory at dusk
Griffith Observatory at dusk

This is about Griffith at dusk. The traffic up the hill is real, and I won't pretend it isn't — but every person standing on that lawn as the city switches on beneath them fought the exact same traffic, and not one is thinking about it anymore. Because right as the light fails, the whole basin lights up under you — ten thousand streets coming on at once, running gold to the horizon — and it costs nothing but the drive to be there for it. Those are your people: the ones who wanted the view more than they hated the parking crawl for one evening. The view outlasts the traffic by about a decade — a rough half hour in the car for a thing you'll still see with your eyes closed years from now. And it's a dusk thing: a twenty-minute window when it's perfect, then it's just night. Leave now and you catch it right as it turns. Leave now. Go.

What you're getting into
  • Look through the free public Zeiss telescope
  • A planetarium show under the Oschin dome
  • Hike the Mt. Hollywood trail for Sign views
  • A concert at the neighboring Greek Theatre
  • The LA Zoo and Autry Museum, a short drive
Dodger Stadium
Dodger Stadium

This is about Dodger Stadium. You're stuck on the ticket and the traffic, so: the upper deck is cheap, and the sunset over Chavez Ravine comes free with every seat in the building. Right now, if they're home, fifty thousand people are on their feet, palms cut black against a pink sky, the roar building in the dark, a Dodger dog in hand — the oldest ritual this city still shows up for. And here's the thing you're actually missing, and it isn't baseball: you don't have to know a single player to want to be inside a crowd that cares about anything that hard. That feeling — fifty thousand people leaning the same way at once — is what you're short on. Not sports. The ticket's on your phone in ninety seconds, the traffic's the tax, and the ravine at sunset is what it buys. A bargain. Go get in the car. Go.

What you're getting into
  • A Dodgers home game in season
  • The 90-minute tour: dugout, press box, trophies
  • The 'Take the Field' batting experience
  • Hike Elysian Park's Academy Road loop nearby
  • Olvera Street and Union Station, minutes away

After dark The city LA becomes when everywhere else has closed — and it's only getting started.
Koreatown after midnight
Koreatown after midnight

This is about Koreatown, right now, this late. You're telling yourself to be responsible and sleep. But sleep is the one thing available to you every single night for the rest of your life — you will never run out of it — so spending a Saturday on it is spending the cheapest thing you own. Meanwhile Ktown is only getting louder: grills hissing behind fogged-up windows, a karaoke room three floors up leaking somebody's whole heart into the street, soju turning a table of strangers into a table of friends, the one stretch of the city that flat refuses to call it a night. Those are your people — the ones who decided the night was worth more than the alarm. It never asks what time you got here. Responsible is just the polite word for the smaller, quieter version of your life. You can have that any night. You can have this for about two more hours. Go be up too late for once. Go.

What you're getting into
  • Prime Korean BBQ at Park's BBQ
  • 24-hour saunas at Wi Spa's jjimjilbang
  • Private-room karaoke at Pharaoh or Shrine
  • Cocktails at The Line Hotel's lobby bar
  • The Art Deco Wiltern on Wilshire
The Sunset Strip
The Sunset Strip

This is about the Sunset Strip. You're picturing clubbing at twenty-two and deciding you're too old — but that's not the ask. This is the one loud mile where every band you ever loved cut its teeth before anyone knew their name: the Whisky, the Roxy, the Rainbow, the Comedy Store, marquees still buzzing over the same sidewalk that's heard it all. Some nights the air itself feels amplified, like the street remembers every set that ever tore the roof off and is daring tonight to top it. Your people there aren't twenty-two — they're everyone who ever stood where it happened and felt it. Go for one drink and one set. You don't have to close the place down. You just have to be on the mile where it all went down, once, and stop pretending it stopped being yours the day you turned thirty. The marquees are lit right now. Go stand under them. Go.

What you're getting into
  • A rock show at the Whisky a Go Go
  • Stand-up at The Comedy Store
  • Rock memorabilia at the Rainbow Bar & Grill
  • Live bands at the Roxy Theatre
  • Boutiques and cafes at Sunset Plaza
Al pastor from a truck, after dark
Al pastor from a truck, after dark

This is about the truck. Somewhere out there right now, under a bare bulb, a trompo is turning and a line of locals is twenty deep at midnight — and that truck, no address, no sign, is serving the best food in this entire enormous city. Just tacos is what people say who've never stood at the right one. Your people are in that line, and the line is the review — twenty deep past midnight is a verdict nobody could fake, delivered by people who know. What's waiting at home isn't a shortcut; it's a consolation prize you're about to hand yourself. And here's the honest part: you have to hunt for it. The best thing in LA doesn't come to you, doesn't have a website, doesn't deliver. You find the trompo, you find the line, you get in it. It's out there right now, spinning. Go find it and understand why they're all standing there. Go.

What you're getting into
  • Al pastor off the trompo at Leo's Tacos
  • Blue-corn queso tacos at Villa's Tacos
  • Tacos árabes from the Villegas truck
  • Live mariachi at Mariachi Plaza
  • Weekend artisan stalls around the plaza

Charli xcx: Music, Fashion, Film Tour — Kia Forum, Los Angeles
Oct 18, 2026 3900 W Manchester Blvd, Inglewood,…

Charli xcx spent a decade being the pop star that other pop stars listened to before the rest of the world caught up. Now the rest of the world has caught up, and the Music, Fashion, Film Tour is what it looks like when someone who was ahead of the curve finally gets to play rooms that match the scale of the ideas. At the Kia Forum in Inglewood, the production is exactly what you would expect from someone who titled an album Brat and meant it: loud, bratty, unapologetic, and designed to make 18,000 people feel like they are at a warehouse party that happens to have professional lighting. The setlist pulls from every era. The crowd knows every word, including the ones from albums that never charted because Charli fans do not wait for the radio. The Brat summer never ended — it just moved indoors for the fall. Sunday, October 18. 8:00 PM. Kia Forum, 3900 W Manchester Blvd, Inglewood.

LA Rams Home Opener 2026
In 12 days · Sep 21 – Sep 13 TBA SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, CA 90301

The whole city exhales at the first home game. Not because anyone knows anything yet — nobody does in September — but because Sundays have a shape again, and they will keep that shape until winter. The lots open hours before kickoff, and that is the part regulars protect: the tailgate sprawl across the SoFi campus is its own event, and people who show up at kickoff have never actually been. Inside, the crowd is loudest when the season still feels new. Rams openers pull the entertainment-industry crowd in alongside the hardcore faithful, and the noise reaches a level regular-season games rarely touch. If you drive, come two hours early, because the lots fill. The Metro K Line runs from Downtown to the Intuit Dome stop and you walk from there. Seats range from upper-deck value to premium sideline, and the opener historically sells through early. If you have been putting off your first NFL game, start with this one. The energy never repeats.

Anime Expo 2027 — Day 4 (Sunday)

Everyone chases the opening days — the announcements, the premieres, the Hall H-sized adrenaline. The people who know AX chase the last one. Sunday is when the world's largest anime convention exhales: the lines go short, the floor slows down, and the conversations finally stop being shouted between panels and start being real. It's also the day the floor gets generous. Artist Alley cuts prices to clear the table, exhibitors let exclusive merch go at a discount, and the Closing Ceremonies — the weekend cosplay recap, the Masquerade awards, the official goodbye — mark the moment four days of strangers become the community that'll wait a whole year to reassemble. Day 4 badges are the easiest to find on resale and the most underrated ticket of the convention. And in 2027 the finale lands on the Fourth of July, with fireworks visible from parts of the LACC plaza depending on which way they launch. Anime Expo 2027, Sunday July 4, Los Angeles Convention Center. Take Metro or rideshare — downtown parking and traffic are brutal on the Fourth. Come for the goodbye; it's the part that stays with you.

The strangest thing about it is the setting. This is the stretch between City Hall and the Music Center — the most administrative real estate in Los Angeles — and for one day in October it is covered end to end with altars for the dead. Schools build them. Artists build them. Families build them for one specific person and then stand nearby, half hoping somebody asks. Marigold pathways run the length of the park, sugar skull installations sit where you would otherwise be hurrying to a meeting, and music and dance run from afternoon straight through the evening while food vendors line the perimeter. Tens of thousands come through, and it stays free, because the point is that anyone can walk in — including people who did not grow up with the tradition and want to understand it. Grand Park downtown, off the Metro at Civic Center. Come early if you want real time with the altars. Make your list on the way there. You will want it the moment you see the first one.

Most fashion weeks happen inside one building, on one schedule, for the same few hundred people. This one refuses. It moves the way the city moves — a warehouse in the Arts District one night, a Melrose showroom the next, an after-party somewhere you needed directions to find. That geography is the argument: the designers showing here built their aesthetic in this city instead of importing it, and the clothes read like it. Southern California has been dressing the rest of the world for decades, mostly without credit and mostly through other people's runways. This is the week it shows its own work under its own name, spread across a city rather than folded into one tent. Runway shows, presentations, and the after-events where the real conversations happen, October 12 through 18. Bring the friend who has been sewing in their apartment and telling nobody about it.

Every useless thing you know has never once helped you at work. No promotion has ever hinged on remembering which planet rotates backwards or what year a band broke up. Once a week, in a brewery in the Arts District, all of it finally pays. King Trivia runs the format — several rounds of general knowledge, a host who keeps the pace honest, teams of up to six, prizes at the end that nobody actually came for. The crowd is Arts District regulars, downtown workers arriving straight from a desk, and people who have kept this as a standing weekly commitment for years. Full bar, rotating taps, tacos from whichever vendor is parked outside. Tuesday evenings, free to play, and the Gold Line drops you a short walk away. Turn up without a team and the host will fold you into one. Bring the friend whose brain is a landfill of unusable facts. This is their one shining hour of the week.

Los Angeles does not technically have seasons. It has this instead — the first home game at Chavez Ravine, and a whole city remembering, all on the same afternoon, what it actually is. Get there early and the thing that gets you is not the ceremony. It is the hillside. The bowl was cut down into the ridge back in the sixties, so the crowd comes in above the field with downtown behind them and, on a clear day, the San Gabriels standing over the outfield like somebody staged them. Then the retired numbers are read out, the first pitch goes, and spring begins by municipal decree. The roster on that grass is already chasing October, which makes the afternoon the first data point of a year the city will argue about for months. Take the shuttle up from Union Station, and take somebody who has never been. Watch their face the moment the hill opens up in front of them.

You carry rooms inside you that nobody has named yet. Walk into a decommissioned hospital in the middle of Los Angeles — four floors, eighty rooms, seventy artists — and find them already waiting. An old ER bay is a chapel of grief lit entirely in blue. A patient room holds a forest of paper cranes that rustle when you breathe. An operating theater has become a confessional where strangers wrote down the things they never said out loud, and you are allowed to read them. There is no route through it. You wander, and you end up standing still in doorways longer than you meant to. Some rooms are quiet. Some are too much. All of them are honest, and you leave carrying something you did not walk in with. The former St. Vincent Medical Center on West 3rd Street, with reduced admission for students, seniors, veterans, and kids. Go with somebody you can be quiet around afterward. Rent decides what art gets made, which is why the most interesting work in Los Angeles is usually happening in whichever neighborhood the rest of the city has not gotten around to yet. Right now that is the port. San Pedro has the building stock, big and industrial and cheap enough that a painter can afford a real studio, and once a month the galleries and workspaces along Sixth Street open their doors and let the neighborhood walk through. The work skews serious and strange, because San Pedro has no reputation to protect and therefore nothing to play safe for. The waterfront sits a few blocks away. The crowd is residents, working artists, and whoever heard about this and drove the 110 all the way down. Sixth Street in San Pedro, the first Thursday evening of each month, free. Somewhere between the pumpkin you carved as a kid and actual sculpture sits this thing, and it lands much closer to sculpture than you are ready for. More than five thousand hand-carved, illuminated pumpkins line a timed walking path — not triangle faces but full portraits, scenes and figures glowing in the dark, set to an ambient score. Nothing jumps out at you. No roaming monsters. It is Halloween for people who love the craft and the glow more than the fear: couples on a date, families with small kids, anyone who wants October to feel like wonder instead of adrenaline. Come December the largest small-craft harbor in Southern California stops being a parking lot for boats and turns into a slow-moving light show — sailboats, powerboats, kayaks, everything in between, gliding the channels after dark with masts and hulls wrapped in color. The reason it is worth standing in the cold is the repeat offenders. Crews come back year after year and build on last year's design, so the displays keep escalating until somebody has clearly spent most of a year on a boat that will be lit for a single evening. Trophies go by vessel size and decoration theme, and the judging stand sits near Fisherman's Village where the parade passes close enough that you can see the wiring. Watch from the jetty, the public docks, or a waterfront table if you booked one. Residents light their own balconies. Spectating costs nothing. Bring somebody who claims to hate the holidays. Hand them something warm and point at the water.

There is one week a year when the boulevard that sells cheap souvenirs the other fifty-one becomes the center of the movie universe. Not figuratively. The films everyone will be arguing about in winter are screening a few feet from the handprints. The actual pleasure is narrower than that: sitting in that enormous auditorium as the lights go down on a film nobody has decided about yet — before the critics fix its meaning, before the trophies tell you what it was. The year's most talked-about titles arrive here months ahead of wide release, in the same complex where the studios stage their own premieres. Salt in the air changes what a song means. The one about the drive, the girl, the water, the summer that never quite ended — for three days a harbor full of boats behind the crowd makes the case that none of it was ever a myth. The booking is explicitly Californian and the past lineups say it plainly: the Doobie Brothers, the Beach Boys, Counting Crows, Slightly Stoopid, Sublime with Rome, Steve Miller Band, and dozens more across the state's whole rock spectrum. Classic rock bleeding into Americana into blues into whatever the surf towns made of all of it. The Pacific is visible from the main stage, and that single fact changes how every song lands. King Harbor in Redondo Beach, the last weekend of May, with VIP, general admission, and single-day options. You knew the voice before you knew the name. Her catalog sits on the seam between soundtrack work and songwriting that stands entirely on its own, and live is where you find out how much of it was always hers. On Wilshire, right at the Metro station, doors ahead of a 7 PM show. If you have ever sent somebody a song in the middle of the night and hoped they would understand without explanation, this is that, out loud, in a room full of people who did the same thing.

Bruno Mars — The Romantic Tour at SoFi Stadium
Sep 30, 2026 SoFi Stadium, 1001 Stadium Drive, …

There are shows you attend and there are shows some part of you refuses to die without having attended. This is the second kind, and everyone who has been to one tells you so in the same slightly embarrassed voice. If you have somehow never seen Bruno Mars perform, understand that he is widely considered the best live performer of his generation, and that the case rests entirely on things a recording cannot carry: the band, the choreography, the joy coming off the stage in visible waves. The Romantic Tour brings that to SoFi around a new album, at stadium scale, on one of the largest stages in Los Angeles. Uptown Funk. 24K Magic. Leave the Door Open. More than a decade of songs that have quietly soundtracked weddings, road trips, and most people's best nights out. Take the train and skip the lot entirely. Then take whoever you would want standing beside you when the whole stadium sings the chorus back.

Some scores do not belong in earbuds. They were written for a room big enough to hold a full orchestra and everybody who ever wanted to say Plus Ultra out loud without having to explain themselves. Live, with the story unfolding and the strings arriving a half-beat before you remember what happens next, the music does what the show does to you and then keeps doing it long after. The room fills with people who quote the Symbol of Peace to each other and mean every word, which is the sort of crowd that makes an orchestral concert feel closer to a rally. All ages, and every single person needs a ticket regardless of age, which means the kids are in there too, and they are reliably the loudest. The Wiltern on Wilshire, doors in the evening, orchestra on stage. Take the person who made you watch it in the first place. You owe them this one.

You learned the choreography alone in your room, in front of a mirror, with the door shut. So did the twenty thousand other people about to be in that building, and in a few hours all of you will do it at the same time, which happens nowhere else in music. This tour strips the show back to the part that is hardest to fake: live vocals and synchronized movement with no backing track underneath. Five people on a stage and nowhere to hide. Fancams do not prepare you for the sound an arena makes when everybody hits the same beat — a phone compresses it, and in the room it arrives as weather. Crypto.com Arena downtown, doors at 7:30 PM, tickets through AXS. Somebody in your group chat is about to send this with zero context and a single exclamation point. Be the one who sends it first.

Pop Crypt : Crypt Cube
Oct 30 – Oct 31, 2026 1720, 1720 E 16th St, Los Angeles,…

Some music sounds like a pop song being fed through a shredder, and the people who love it spent their formative years online rather than outside. Hyperpop is less a genre than a shared childhood. Pop Crypt is one of the LA parties built for it — PC Music lineage, pitched vocals, songs that fall apart on purpose halfway through, and a crowd where the average age is low and the outfit commitment is extremely high. The scene grew up on Discord and SoundCloud, which means the room is full of people who have talked to each other for years and are meeting in person for the third or fourth time. Halloween weekend is the natural home for a scene this theatrical. The warehouse on East 16th does not do subtlety. Nine at night on Friday the thirtieth. Dress like you mean it.

You danced alone in your kitchen the night something ended, and it was the first time crying and dancing felt like the same activity. She made that possible. She took the loneliest feeling in pop music and turned it into somewhere you could go — solitude as a place to move through rather than escape, on a floor where nobody is watching you anyway. The Sexistential Tour is her first headlining run in years, and it is named for exactly that collision. Two nights at the Forum. Support rotates: horsegiirL one night, Romy from The xx the other, with Swedish cosmic pop act Zhala on both. A dollar from every seat sold goes to PLUS1 partner organizations. Inglewood, two evenings in September, and they are moving. She has always written for people who feel things too hard and dance anyway. Take the one who has been feeling it too hard lately.

DAS BUNKER 30th Anniversary with CombiChrist
Oct 2, 2026 $35+ Catch One, 4067 W Pico Blvd, Los A…

A room full of people in black moving on the same downbeat makes a very particular sound, and Los Angeles has been making it in one basement or another for thirty years. DAS BUNKER is where generations of goths, rivetheads, and cybergoths found each other — the dark room that kept existing while every other scene night in this city opened and closed. For the anniversary it brings CombiChrist to Catch One: aggrotech, body music, strobes, and the communal catharsis this particular crowd knows how to generate on command. This is less a concert than a homecoming. Thirty years of people who did not fit anywhere else, in one room, at full volume, finding out that most of them are still here. Wear the black you save for occasions. Charge your boots. Dance until the lights come up with a family you did not know you had.

Before reggae there was rocksteady, that impossibly sweet, slow-swaying sound of late-60s Jamaica, and Keith and Tex are among its last living legends, the duo behind Stop That Train and Tonight, harmonies that have soundtracked romance for sixty years. Hearing them in person, backed by the Dub Club sound system and joined by Keith Poppin, is a genuine piece of living history, a December night for the connoisseurs who know exactly how rare this is. Saturday, December 19, 2026, 9 PM, the Echoplex in Echo Park, 21+. Come for the vintage harmonies, the deep bass, the sound-system faithful, and a slow skank with someone you love. Bring the friend who collects vinyl. This is the back-of-the-store treasure LA's reggae underground has been guarding since 2000. Rocksteady forever.

Academy Awards 2027 — Red Carpet + Oscars Night
Mar 14, 2027 Dolby Theatre, 6801 Hollywood Blvd…

For one night the boulevard stops belonging to tourists and belongs entirely to the movies. Traffic gone. Barricades up. Four blocks of Hollywood under the attention of most of the planet at once. People forget the ceremony has an outside. The fan zone along the carpet approach is a real thing you can stand in — registered spectators watch the arrivals from designated areas, and registration opens on the Academy's site weeks ahead and fills within hours. The street shuts to through traffic that morning, the Dolby's entrance becomes the carpet, and the surrounding blocks turn into perimeter and infrastructure. The whole neighborhood takes on the particular charge of a night the world is watching your city block. Downtown Hollywood, Metro to Hollywood and Highland, free to observe from the public areas outside the perimeter. Go with the person who has a strong opinion about every Best Picture winner of their lifetime.
