Flamingosis: Bright Moments 10 Year Anniversary
Oct 23, 2026 Quartyard, 1102 Market St, San Die…

A record turns ten and you realise you have been dating the rest of your life against it. You know where you were living. You know who you were trying to impress. The album did not change; the distance did. Bright Moments came out in 2016 and became one of those records that spread entirely sideways — SoundCloud, shared links, a friend saying just listen to it. Aaron Velasquez builds it out of crate-dug funk and live instrumentation rather than presets, which is why it has aged like a record and not like a playlist. Shrimpnose opens. Quartyard is an outdoor lot made of shipping containers in the East Village, so this is a six p.m. show under an open sky rather than a dark room — closer to a block party than a concert, and the right shape for a record that always sounded like late summer. Friday, October 23. Six p.m. 1102 Market Street, San Diego. Ten years is long enough that the room will be full of people who found it separately and are about to find that out.

San Diego Freak Out Presents: Triptophantasia
Nov 27, 2026 Quartyard, 1301 Market St, San Die…

The Friday after Thanksgiving has a specific flatness to it. The food is gone, the relatives are still there, and the day has no shape — which is exactly the gap a local psych collective decided to fill with a pun and a wall of reverb. The name is a tryptophan joke. They are not apologising for it. San Diego Freak Out has spent years booking the city's garage and psych bands into rooms that are slightly wrong for them, and the result is a crowd that genuinely overlaps: people who came for one band stay for the three they had never heard, because the collective's whole premise is that the scene is the product and the lineup is just that month's evidence. Expect long intros, a fog of pedals, and somebody's cousin running the merch table. Five in the afternoon, outdoors, downtown San Diego, the lawn open to whoever wanders in. A scene you can only find by being told about it is still being told about.

Anamanaguchi, Covet, sueter7
Oct 3, 2026 Quartyard, 1301 Market St, San Die…

The sound of a Nintendo chip is not nostalgia for everybody. For a certain kind of person it is the sound of being eight years old, alone in a room where nothing bad was happening, and hearing it played loud by four people on a stage does something complicated to the chest. Anamanaguchi run their music through a hacked NES. Not an emulator and not a plugin — the actual hardware, the physical chip, wired into a live band with guitar and drums stacked on top. They wrote the score for the Scott Pilgrim video game, which is how most people found them, and they have spent every year since proving the chiptune was never a novelty. Covet co-headline, and Yvette Young's fretboard-tapping instrumentals drag in a completely different crowd — math rock kids who came to study technique and end up dancing anyway. Those two audiences almost never share a floor. That is the reason to go. Downtown at 13th and Market, doors at six on Saturday the third. All ages.

While you are looking Different scene, same night out.

The Living Tombstone — SOMA, San Diego
In 2 days · Oct 10 SOMA, 3350 Sports Arena Blvd, San …

If you know The Living Tombstone from the internet — and statistically, you do, because Yoav Landau's tracks have been streamed a billion times across YouTube and Spotify without most people knowing his name — then you already know the sound. Electronic, rock, and chiptune fused into something that lives in the space between video game soundtracks and proper dance music, made by someone who built a career writing songs about Five Nights at Freddy's and then kept leveling up until the music outgrew the meme. The SOMA show brings Landau's project to a venue that fits the vibe — standing room, all ages, the kind of crowd that discovered this music through gaming communities and fan-made animations and now gets to hear it through speakers that weigh more than they do. The live show translates the production in a way the bedroom headphone experience can't — bass you feel, drops timed to lighting rigs, the communal energy of a room full of people who found the same strange corner of the internet. Saturday, October 10, 2026 at 8:00 PM. SOMA, 3350 Sports Arena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92110. All ages. General admission.

Anime Expo 2027 — Los Angeles Convention Center
Jul 1 – Jul 4, 2027 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

You will be tired in a way that feels earned. Four days, a hundred thousand people, and not one of them needs you to explain what you are talking about. The largest anime convention in North America takes the Los Angeles Convention Center over Fourth of July weekend and spills into the JW Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton beside it. Industry panels, screening rooms, autograph sessions with voice actors and composers, concerts that sell out weeks ahead. Studios from Japan use this as their main North American announcement stage — if a sequel or adaptation is being revealed, it often happens in a room you could be standing in. The exhibit hall carries imported merchandise and collaboration exclusives that surface nowhere else on the continent. Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S Figueroa St. Thursday through Sunday. Badges run from top-tier early-access down to single-day passes. Book the connected hotel corridor months out. Everyone who tells you that learned it the hard way.

Pacific Beach Night Market
Monthly · Next Nov 4 Free Bayard St and Garnet Ave, Pacific …

A hundred and fifty steps from the ocean, a corner of Pacific Beach turns into a block party that nobody had to organize you into. Fire pits going. Nine to twelve food vendors rotating week to week, so the thing you loved last time might be gone and the thing replacing it might be better. Live music that is genuinely local — acoustic sets, small bands, the occasional DJ. Games. A crowd of PB locals and students and people who simply wandered up from the beach still holding a towel. Past vendors have run birria tacos, banh mi, craft lemonade, Hawaiian shave ice, artisan pastries, small-batch hot sauces. A few craft sellers usually set up alongside. This is a neighborhood gathering, not a ticketed event. Free. No RSVP. You walk up. Bayard St and Garnet Ave, Pacific Beach. 5 to 9:30 PM. Bring a layer — it cools off fast after sunset, even in August.

Taste of Soul LA 2026
In 9 days · Oct 17 Free Crenshaw Blvd (Martin Luther King …

The smell reaches you before the stages do - barbecue and catfish and soul food covering a mile-plus of Crenshaw Boulevard, because every major Black-owned restaurant in South LA has a booth out here and the food is the center of the whole thing. For one Saturday in October, this stretch between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Leimert Park Village becomes one of the largest street festivals in Los Angeles. More than 300,000 people move through in a single day. The format is street vendors, restaurant booths, live music stages, a car show, health screenings, and community organization presence - but it is the food and the crowd that make it. Founded by the Los Angeles Sentinel, the oldest Black-owned newspaper in California, it has run for over two decades and stayed a genuine community institution: multigenerational, neighborhood-rooted, and enormous. This is Leimert Park and Crenshaw at their fullest. Free to attend. Crenshaw closes to traffic for the day. The Metro K Line stops at Leimert Park Village and is the easiest way in and out. Arrive early if you want to move - by noon the crowds are deep.

This is where San Diego independent makers set up shop: handcrafted jewelry, original paintings, ceramics, leather goods, woven textiles, hand-poured candles, botanical skincare, and prints from local artists who live and work in this city every day. The market hosts live music from local musicians throughout the day. GLAM is free to attend and open to all ages. Shaded seating is available. The market runs 10 AM to 4 PM. Getting there: Located in the Gaslamp Quarter, easily accessible by trolley (Gaslamp Quarter station on the Blue and Orange line). Street parking and paid lots available on nearby blocks. Pioneer Boulevard shuts down, and for one day the biggest Little India in Southern California becomes the biggest Diwali party west of the Mississippi. Sunday, November 10, 2026, 11 AM to 10 PM. Pioneer Boulevard, Artesia, CA. Free admission. If you know someone who grew up celebrating Diwali and hasn't been to this yet, send them this.
